Abstract

Globalization has brought about transformations in society, particularly in the context of life in the digital era. This change has caused a significant shift, where the role of religion undergoes adjustments in response to the impacts of modern advancements. In the digital era, the dissemination of religious values is no longer limited to institutions or religious education centers but also occurs through various digital platforms such as social media, websites, and applications. This study aims to explore how the role of Islam shifts from a conventional approach to a digital approach and how digital media functions as a strategic tool in guiding social transformation. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, using a library research method to review literature and previous studies related to religion, digital media, and social change. The findings indicate that digitalization presents opportunities for religion to expand the reach of preaching and religious education through digital media, but it also poses challenges in the form of unverified information and a decline in understanding of moral values. Therefore, strengthening religious digital literacy is necessary so that digital media can be effectively utilized to support the development of a religious culture and constructive social interaction.

Abstract

This study aims to formulate the framework of the Urban Halal Economy 5.0 within the context of Tangerang City. This model integrates halal values, sustainability principles, and Society 5.0–based technologies to realize an ethical, prosperous, and sustainable urban environment. In addition, the study seeks to propose a Halal Urban Economy Dashboard as a managerial blueprint that functions not only as a monitoring instrument but also as a collaborative platform connecting the government, business actors, academics, the community, and investors. The research employs a qualitative–descriptive approach through literature review, conceptual analysis, and contextual case studies. Data are obtained from academic literature, policy documents, and global best practices related to the halal economy, smart cities, and the Society 5.0 paradigm. Thematic analysis is used to identify relational patterns among four main pillars: the halal economy, Society 5.0, collaborative innovation, and Islamic urbanism. The findings indicate that the Urban Halal Economy 5.0 offers a model of urban development that is just, inclusive, and sustainable. Meanwhile, the Halal Urban Economy Dashboard is positioned as a strategic instrument to strengthen the integration of data, technology, and multi-stakeholder collaboration. This study highlights the potential of Tangerang City to become a pioneer of the Halal Urban Economy City in Indonesia as well as a global reference point.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of the murabbi (spiritual mentor) in the process of transforming students’ religious character through halakah tarbiyah activities and to examine the internalization of the 5M values (mukmin, mushlih, mujahid, mutqin, and muta’awin) at the Wahdah Islamiyah Cibinong Tahfidz Islamic Boarding School. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data were analyzed in three stages: data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that halakah tarbiyah functions as the main instrument for character formation through a process of structured spiritual guidance and collective religious practices. The murabbi plays a central role as a facilitator, role model, and motivator in instilling Islamic values. The internalization of the 5M values is carried out gradually through halakah sessions, mentoring, and daily evaluations. These values have proven effective in fostering students’ religious awareness, moral responsibility, and worship discipline. The contribution of this study lies in strengthening a tarbiyah-based character education model that is relevant to the development of Islamic formation systems in modern Islamic boarding schools.

Abstract

This study critically examines the controversial teachings of Syekh Siti Jenar in the history of Islamic thought in Java, particularly his doctrine of Manunggaling Kawula Gusti and its implications for the purity of Islamic monotheism. The purpose of this research is to analyze Syekh Siti Jenar’s theological doctrines from the Ahlussunnah wal Jamaah (Aswaja) perspective, to identify the theological arguments behind the Aswaja scholars’ rejection of his ideas on wahdat al-wujud and his dismissal of Islamic law, and to assess its socio-religious consequences in the development of Islam in Java. This study employs a qualitative-descriptive method with a theological-historical approach based on library research using classical and modern references. The findings reveal that Siti Jenar’s teachings contradict the Aswaja doctrine of tanzih by blurring the ontological distinction between the Creator and His creation, and his rejection of formal worship has been deemed to potentially disrupt social order and religious authority. This research contributes to reinforcing the epistemological boundary between orthodox Sunni Sufism and extreme philosophical mysticism, while enriching the study of Aswaja theology in responding to Javanese spiritual phenomena in the Indonesian Islamic context.

Abstract

This study examines the wisdom behind the establishment of worship in Islam through an interdisciplinary approach combining Islamic theology and jurisprudence, positioning worship not merely as ritual performance but as a multidimensional system enriched with rational, spiritual, and social values. The purpose of this research is to uncover the theological foundation of worship as an embodiment of monotheism and to analyze the jurisprudential framework that regulates worship through divinely mandated pillars, conditions, and procedures. Employing a qualitative-descriptive methodology, the study conducts textual analysis of the Qur’an, the Sunnah, and classical works such as those of al-Ghazālī, al-Nawawī, and Ibn Taymiyyah, along with contemporary scholarship including Wahbah al-Zuḥaylī, Yūsuf al-Qaraḍāwī, and Ṭāhir ibn ‘Āsyūr. The findings reveal that worship serves dual functions: as a spiritual purification process fostering divine consciousness, and as a system of public welfare promoting justice, solidarity, and moral formation within society. This research contributes to the discourse of Islamic theology and jurisprudence by integrating maqāṣid al-sharī‘ah as an analytical framework, enabling worship to be understood not merely as a legal obligation but as a transformative structure capable of shaping both inner spirituality and social ethics in contemporary life.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the concept of production in Ibn Khaldūn’s thought, analyze its philosophical, normative, and historical foundations, and evaluate its relevance to the development of contemporary Islamic economics, particularly the halal industry. The study employs a qualitative-descriptive approach based on library research, using content analysis of Ibn Khaldūn’s Muqaddimah and related literature to examine the concept of production within the context of the modern economy. The findings indicate that, in Ibn Khaldūn’s perspective, production is an integral part of civilization (‘umrān) and is not merely understood as a technical process, but also as a social activity involving human labor, division of labor, social solidarity (‘asabiyyah), and institutional strengthening. His concept of production is rooted in Sharīʿah values such as justice and maṣlaḥah, and is shaped by historical and political experiences that form a comprehensive view of the relationship between state stability, productive capacity, and societal welfare. Furthermore, the study highlights that Ibn Khaldūn’s thought remains highly relevant to contemporary Islamic economics. Its principles can serve as a foundation for strengthening the halal industry through improving human capital quality, institutional governance, halal certification, access to Islamic finance, and equitable fiscal policies. Therefore, Ibn Khaldūn’s concept of production offers a rich and applicable analytical framework for sustainable Islamic economic development. The implication is that this framework can be used as a conceptual basis for formulating policies and strategies for sustainable and socially oriented halal industry development.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the essence of the Science of 'Ilal al-Hadith, covering its historical development as a scientific discipline, its scope, its urgency, as well as its pioneering figures and developers. This research employs a library research method focusing on the study of manuscripts and texts from various literature of Hadith studies. It utilizes historical, philosophical, and hadithi (hadith-technical) approaches. Results: The results of this study indicate several key findings: First: Historically, the Science of 'Ilal al-Hadith does not have extensive records regarding its early development as a formal discipline. Its origins can only be traced through limited accounts of hadith criticism activities carried out by early scholars, such as Imam Syu’bah bin al-Hajjaj. Second: The scope of 'Ilal al-Hadith focuses on hadiths narrated by thiqah (trustworthy/reliable) narrators, with the aim of uncovering hidden flaws or errors ('ilal) that may occur even among reliable narrators. Regarding its urgency, this science represents the pinnacle of Hadith studies—being the most extensive, detailed, and vital branch. Third: This discipline was developed by prominent hadith scholars who dedicated their lives to advancing the science of 'ilal and hadith sciences in general. The implications of this research include providing a clear description of the nature of 'Ilal al-Hadith, which is fundamentally still misunderstood by many students of knowledge. Furthermore, it clarifies the specific field of 'ilal within the broader family of Hadith sciences, thereby providing scientific insight for anyone, particularly for students and researchers in this field.

Abstract

This article examines the integration of da‘wah and education in the Wahdah Islamiyah Movement from the perspective of contemporary Islamic da‘wah, positioning da‘wah as an educational and social transformation process. The study aims to analyze the forms, mechanisms, and implications of integrating da‘wah and education in shaping Muslim character and strengthening socio-religious engagement. This research employs a qualitative approach using a case study method, with data collected through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and document analysis of educational systems, da‘wah programs, and cadre development practices within Wahdah Islamiyah. The findings reveal that Wahdah Islamiyah implements a systematic, structured, and sustainable integration of da‘wah and education based on Ahl al-Sunnah wa al-Jama‘ah theology, tiered tarbiyah models, comprehensive da‘i cadre formation, the use of digital da‘wah media, and da‘wah bil-hal through educational and social empowerment programs. The da‘i cadre system serves as the central nexus between da‘wah and education, functioning not merely to produce preachers but also educators and agents of social change characterized by the 5M values (Mu’min, Muslih, Mujahid, Muta‘awin, and Mutqin). This study contributes to contemporary Islamic da‘wah scholarship by offering an integrative da‘wah-educational model that is adaptive, participatory, and contextually responsive to modern societal challenges.

Abstract

The Islamization of knowledge emerged from the concerns of Muslim intellectuals regarding an epistemological crisis experienced by the Muslim community, caused by the infiltration of Western knowledge driven by secular motives that are considered incompatible with Islamic values. This study aims to describe the expansion and integration of knowledge and religion at Nahdlatlatul Ulama Senior High School (SMA NU) Modern and Religius Lamongan. Therefore, this research employs a library research approach using a qualitative method in order to draw conclusions from the research findings. Data collection techniques in this study include observation and documentation. Based on the results of the discussion, it can be concluded that the educational curriculum at SMA NU 1 Model Lamongan integrates religious knowledge and science through an integrative scientific paradigm. Furthermore, the Islamization of knowledge is implemented through classroom learning, religious extracurricular activities such as banjari or sholawat and manaqib, in-depth studies of the Qur’an and Hadith, as well as spiritual activities conducted before the learning process begins, including the recitation of the Qur’an.

Abstract

This study examines Jamaluddin Al-Afghani's strategic role in formulating and articulating key issues of Islamic intellectual renewal in the late 19th century. Through historical-philosophical analysis of his writings, particularly in Al-Urwah Al-Wuthqa, this research explores how Al-Afghani constructed an integrated reform agenda linking Pan-Islamism, anti-colonial resistance, educational modernization, and religious rationalism as interconnected solutions to the challenges facing the Muslim world. Findings reveal that Al-Afghani employed sophisticated framing strategies to present reform as both a religious imperative and political necessity, thereby creating a durable foundation for Islamic modernism. His approach successfully bridged Islamic tradition with modern demands while advocating Muslim unity against Western colonial domination. This study concludes that Al-Afghani's methodological innovation shifted Islamic intellectual discourse from defensive responses to proactive agenda-setting, significantly influencing subsequent reform movements across the Muslim world.
