Abstract

Transforming villages into tourism villages is essential for community empowerment, enabling them to grow and manage local potential, although its implementation is not yet systematic. This research aims to measure the community empowerment in the development of tourism villages in Batu City, focusing on four villages: Sidomulyo, Bumiaji, Punten, and Tulungrejo. The measurement is carried out using the concept of Resident Empowerment through Tourism Scale (RETS) with modifications by adding an economic dimension. The research uses a quantitative descriptive approach, utilizing a purposive sampling technique to gather data from 100 respondents involved in tourism-related activities. The results indicate that psychological empowerment recorded the highest score 4.47, indicating strong community awareness, pride, and concern for tourism village potential. The social empowerment followed with a score of 4.37, reflecting active participation, collaboration, and community cohesion in tourism activities. The economic empowerment scored 3.95, demonstrating the community’s ability to leverage tourism for income generation and economic growth. Meanwhile, the political empowerment received a score of 4.05, showing community involvement in policy-making and decision-making related to tourism village management. This research can be used by the Batu City Government as a basis for developing more systematic tourism village management policies and improving training for tourism village communities, while also helping tourism village managers strengthen their management strategies.

Abstract

This article investigates the potential of Leuwimunding Village, Majalengka Regency, West Java, to be developed as a religious tourism village, with the research objective of assessing the feasibility of Leuwimunding Village as a religious tourism destination. The village holds significant religious importance due to the presence of the grave of national hero KH. Abdul Chalim, a revered figure in Indonesian Islam. Despite this, Leuwimunding's potential for religious tourism has not been fully realized, highlighting the need for a strategic development approach. The article employs a multi-approach methodology, combining a comprehensive rational approach with realist and critical ethnography. This methodology allows for an in-depth understanding of the village's socio-cultural context, the historical significance of KH. Abdul Chalim, and the potential for religious tourism development. Additionally, the article incorporates a participatory approach, engaging with local communities and stakeholders to ensure their involvement in the development process. The findings reveal that Leuwimunding Village possesses strong potential for religious tourism, driven by the historical and spiritual significance of KH. Abdul Chalim's legacy. The article identifies specific aspects of the village's cultural and religious identity, including its connection to the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) movement and its unique Sundanese cultural heritage. These elements enhance the village's attractiveness for religious tourists seeking authentic and meaningful experiences. The article concludes with recommendations for the sustainable development of Leuwimunding as a religious tourism village, emphasizing the importance of preserving the village's cultural and religious heritage, promoting community involvement, and developing infrastructure and services that cater to the needs of religious tourists.

Abstract

This study aims to identify the tourism potential of Candirejo Tourism Village through a storynomics tourism approach, which leverages storytelling to create enganging narratives that inspire creative interpretations and imaginations among visitors. The research employs qualitative descriptive research method, gathering primary data through interviews with the head of Candirejo Tourism Village and the local community (Pokdarwis), and secondary data through literature reviews. The result of this research is that the potential possessed by the Candirejo Tourism Village is packaged through a brief description of the narrative of the values ​​contained in the Candirejo tourist village in this research which will be displayed on the official website, namely candirejo.com, in the form of a Flipping Book.The study suggested that Candirejo Tourism Village promotes tourism by utilizing storynomic narratives, presented through creative and interactive media such as digital flipbooks, to attract tourist and enrich their experience of Candirejo’s tourism before visiting Candirejo tourist village.

Abstract

This study identifies strategies to enhance women's empowerment in the workplace at Karma Royal Bali and examines how these efforts contribute to guest satisfaction within the timeshare hotel system. The research focuses on three properties: Karma Royal Candidasa, Karma Royal Jimbaran, and Karma Royal Sanur. This study used a qualitative methodology through in-depth interviews with women leaders and workers; the study explores themes of gender bias, work-life balance, and career development barriers. Findings highlight effective techniques these women implement to overcome challenges, including training programs, mentorship, and supportive workplace policies, ensuring high service quality and improving guest experiences. Therefore, this study implies that women's empowerment is vital in providing guest satisfaction.

Abstract

The successful conservation of wildlife and the well-being of communities living adjacent to protected areas largely depends on the extent to which the communities and wildlife themselves can coexist. Where coexistence fails, human-wildlife conflicts (HWC) arise. Almost every country in the world faces some form of HWC, and highly biodiversity, developing countries like Zimbabwe particularly struggle with this issue. The purpose of this study was to provide the detailed information on the status, nature and dynamics of HWC, how it is experienced and how communities living in and adjacent to HWC hotspots around Gonarezhou are affected. Knowledge gained from this study will inform the design and implementation of a suite of strategies and interventions in HWC mitigation. This study was conducted in eight wards with HWC hotspots around Gonarezhou in Zimbabwe Zimbabwe in particular Chitsa, Chibwedziva, Twanani, Batanai, Chichingwe, Xibhavahlengwe, Sengwe and Xini. The local communities in these study sites live alongside and share their space with wildlife. A mixed methods approach was used to conduct this study, which involved the use of quantitative and qualitative data collection techniques. The quantitative data collection involved the use of structured household questionnaires, and a total of 560 households were interviewed across the study sites. The qualitative data collection techniques involved discussions with 28 focus groups and 12 interviews with key informants across the eight study sites. Results from household surveys showed that attitudes towards wildlife protection are generally positive. The incidences of HWC varied across the study sites with some sites such as Sengwe and Xibhavahlengwe experiencing higher levels of conflict. The study recommends for a holistic solution which addresses both HWC and poverty is critical in protecting biodiversity and improving livelihoods in communities around Gonarezhou National Park.

Abstract

Agritourism is an important economic driver that has contributed significantly to the economies of most developed countries. However, the significance of the contribution of agritourism has been minimally explored in the developing world context, particularly in Zimbabwe. Therefore, this study aims to assess the economic contribution of agritourism in Zimbabwe from the supply side. Using a qualitative approach, farmers' perceptions of the economic contributions of agritourism were collected and analyzed. The assessed variables included farm income, sales, profits, employment, tax revenue generated, value addition, size of agritourism businesses, and Gross Domestic Product (GDP). Twenty (21) agritourism ventures were purposively selected and in-depth interviews were conducted. The results of this study indicate that agritourism’s contribution to Zimbabwe's economy is still meager. They showed that agritourism activities increased farm income, sales, profits, employment, tax remittances, value addition, and GDP by a small margin. Revenue generated through farm entry fees and farm activities has a low effect on farm profits, except for farms with accommodation facilities. Therefore, the study recommends the development of various adaptable strategies to increase tourist flow to farms, including increased marketing efforts, offering family and holiday events, creating entertainment facilities, and increasing agricultural production. The results of this study provide policymakers, farmers, and other relevant stakeholders with information that can be used to assess the potential and profitability of agritourism. Furthermore, policy recommendations are provided to strengthen agritourism as a sustainable diversification strategy for farmers.

Abstract

This study explores the underutilized potential of bôh gadông flour, derived from Dioscorea alata tubers, as an ingredient in roll cake production. Despite its abundance in certain regions, the use of bôh gadông in modern culinary applications remains limited. This research aims to address this gap by (1) standardizing roll cake recipes incorporating bôh gadông flour, (2) evaluating the organoleptic attributes (color, aroma, texture, and taste) of the cakes, (3) assessing consumer acceptance of bôh gadông flour roll cakes, and (4) analyzing the storage quality of the cakes over time. Conducted through experimental research at the Catering Laboratory of the Family Welfare Education Program, Universitas Syiah Kuala, the study employs quantitative methods. Observational data are analyzed using mean calculations, while consumer acceptance data undergo one-way ANOVA followed by LSD analysis. Results reveal that the second treatment (BG1) achieves superior scores in color, aroma, and taste. Additionally, bôh gadông roll cakes maintain satisfactory storage quality for up to two days when stored in airtight containers. These findings highlight the potential of bôh gadông flour in enhancing local culinary innovation. Future studies should explore its application in other snack varieties and include proximate testing to determine nutritional composition.

Abstract

This study focuses on how staff productivity and service quality of the front office department affect job satisfaction, with work motivation as a mediating variable in the hospitality sector The objectives are to determine how employee productivity affects job satisfaction, evaluate how service quality affects job satisfaction, and examine how work motivation functions as a mediating factor among productivity, service quality, and job satisfaction. Front desk staff at a number of Indonesian hotels completed a questionnaire with a Likert scale of 1–5, which was used to gather data using quantitative methods. Job satisfaction, work motivation, service quality, and employee productivity were among the variables examined. Data analysis was conducted using SEM-PLS (Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares) in Smart-PLS statistical software. Validity and reliability testing were also conducted to make sure the study tool was suitable. The analysis on the 79 responses collected via google forms revealed that while job satisfaction is less significantly impacted, employee productivity and service quality have a considerable impact on work motivation. It is discovered that work motivation plays a significant part in raising job satisfaction.

Abstract

Technological approach affecting on tourism industry development is uncertainties from era to era. This study examines the impact of social media and technological innovation on tourism outcomes through a systematic review. Data were collected from three databases: EBSCO (1984-2019), Scopus (2005–2021), and Web of Science (2009-2020), using keywords such as technology innovation, digitalization, social media, and enhancing tourism industry outcomes. Quality assessment was performed using SPSS and Cohen’s Kappa statistics by two reviewers. Out of 156 articles initially screened, nine qualitative studies were included after further review. The findings indicate that social media platforms have the most significant impact on the development of the tourism industry. However, the study has limitations, including not exploring the impact of blockchain technology adoption. The concept of tourism has evolved into smart tourism, influencing tourist behavior through digital marketing, creative digital solutions, and digital payments. This has modernized and enhanced the tourism industry, requiring further efforts to meet tourist demands and expectations. Technologies like AI, IoT, VR, and AR are key factors in improving the tourism industry. To boost competitiveness and sustainable performance, stakeholders, governments, and tourism practitioners need to collaborate on developing strategies and technological innovations.

Abstract

Gondanglor Sugio Village has great potential to become a tourist village in Lamongan. Some of the tourist attractions in Gondanglor Village are Gondang Reservoir, G-Park, and Pesarean Nyai Dewi Sekardadu. But in reality, the number of tourists in Gondanglor village is decreasing every year. The aim of this research is to analyze the factors for the decline in the number of tourists and provide a policy brief for tourism development in Gondanglor Village. This research is qualitative research with a case study approach. Data obtained using interviews, questionnaires, observations and surveys. The results of the research show that one of the factors in the decline in the number of tourists is the strategy for optimizing the tourism management system which is less than optimal. This is demonstrated by management, planning, implementation of maintenance of tourist destinations, supervision, accessibility to tourist destinations, organization that only involves related agencies, and should be able to involve all stakeholders so that the involvement of all stakeholders in management can be optimal.
