Abstract

This study aims to analyze how metacommunication works in the case of the worldwide stupid speech controversy by Ahmad Sahroni related to the dissolution of the House of Representatives of the Republic of Indonesia. The remark gained public attention not because of the substance of the message about the danger of dissolving the House of Representatives, but because of the choice of words that were considered rude and inappropriate to be uttered by a state official. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method through the analysis of critical discourse on statement texts, media reports, and public interaction on social media. The results show that the metacommunication aspect, especially diction and delivery style, is more dominant in shaping public perception than the substance of political messages. Media framing that highlights the world's stupid diction and virality on social media magnifies the resonance of controversy, making it a digital popular culture phenomenon. This controversy not only impacts Sahroni's personal image but also has implications for the institutional delegitimization of the House of Representatives, further deepening the crisis of public trust. Thus, this study confirms that in political communication in the digital age, legitimacy is not only determined by substantive performance, but also by the way elites choose words and communication styles, as well as how their messages are perceived and reproduced in the media space.

Abstract

Principals play a strategic role in improving the quality of teaching and teacher performance through supervisory practices. This study aims to describe the implementation of the principal’s supervisory style in enhancing teachers’ job satisfaction at SMK Negeri 1 Gowa. This research employed a descriptive qualitative approach, with data collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation. The participants included the principal, six vice principals, senior teachers, and teachers who were the subjects of supervision. The findings indicate that the principal implemented an integrated, structured, and participatory supervisory style. This approach can be categorized as guided leadership, which emphasizes mentoring, support, and teacher involvement in decision-making. The implementation of supervision was not merely focused on administrative evaluation but functioned as a medium of empowerment through constructive feedback, continuous mentoring, and collective reflection. Teachers reported feeling valued and supported, which positively influenced their motivation, professionalism, work discipline, teaching readiness, and overall job satisfaction. Furthermore, the supervisory practices were closely linked to teacher performance appraisal (PKG) and work target assessments (SKP), contributing to the strengthening of career development and performance-based recognition. These results highlight that a humanistic, educational, and participatory supervisory style fosters a positive school climate, promotes collaboration, and enhances the quality of teaching and learning in vocational education settings.

Abstract

Communication skills among social-science students in higher education (CS3HE) is a rapidly growing research area. This study aims to analyze research trends on this topic through a bibliometric analysis of 1,554 documents published in Scopus-indexed journal articles. The results highlighted an increasing number of publications since 2015. The research was conducted by researchers from multiple countries. The results of research on the CS3HE topic have also been widely published in reputable journals, with most of them being published in Q1 journals. The collaboration between authors and countries shows that this research topic has received significant attention globally. Based on the analysis of research trends, future research should continue to explore the application of technology in health education and the development of communication skills to improve interactions between medical personnel and patients.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to examine how inflation and the Gini Ratio affect Indonesia's Human Development Index (HDI).Multiple linear regression using secondary data was used for the analysis.The results show that the HDI is negatively and significantly impacted by inflation, suggesting that rising inflation can lower the quality of human development by stifling people's purchasing power and restricting access to healthcare and education.Income inequality has not yet emerged as a major factor impacting HDI accomplishment during the study period, as seen by the Gini Ratio's lack of a substantial impact on the HDI.The HDI is significantly impacted by both independent variables at the same time, with the model accounting for 23.9% of the variation in the HDI and other factors influencing the remaining variation.These results emphasize how crucial inflation control measures are to promoting the enhancement of Indonesia's human development, especially with regard to food items and essentials.

Abstract

Educational stratification has become increasingly evident in the Indonesian school system through the differentiation of learning programs, one of which is the division between regular and additional classes. This study examines educational stratification and social dynamics through the implementation of regular and additional class programs at Muhammadiyah 2 Senior High School Medan. The establishment of the plus class program, initiated in 2013, was largely driven by parental aspirations to provide enhanced educational facilities and differentiated learning approaches for gifted students. Although the program introduces distinctions in tuition fees, facilities, and academic expectations, its impact on students’ motivation and social interaction remains underexplored. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with a teacher, a regular class student, and a plus class student, complemented by participatory observation and document analysis. The findings reveal that although structural differences exist between the two programs, students perceive no significant social divisions. Interactions between regular and plus-class students remain harmonious, and teachers ensure equal treatment in the learning process. The results further indicate that stratification is not primarily an institutional initiative but rather a response to parental demand. From a sociological perspective, this study demonstrates that educational stratification does not necessarily produce social inequality. Instead, it can be understood as a form of differentiation that, if managed inclusively, supports both parental expectations and institutional goals without undermining social cohesion. This study contributes to the discourse on education and stratification by highlighting how schools can manage program differentiation while promoting equity and inclusiveness.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the readiness of kindergarten (TK) teachers in East Kalimantan to implement the Independent Curriculum based on deep learning, focusing on both conceptual understanding and technical application. A qualitative descriptive approach with a case study design was used. Five teachers from two kindergartens were selected purposively. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model (reduction, display, conclusion). All teachers demonstrated a strong conceptual grasp of the Independent Curriculum and deep learning, understood as meaningful and reflective learning. However, the technical readiness varied. Teachers at Handayani 1 Kindergarten, who had attended training, were more capable of designing learning tools aligned with deep learning principles. In contrast, Handayani’s two teachers relied mainly on intuitive practices owing to limited access to training and facilities. Nevertheless, classroom observations revealed practices consistent with the curriculum, including exploratory, experience-based activities, and flexible lesson implementation.  This study identifies the phenomenon of teachers’ “intuitive readiness” in curriculum reform, contributing to the theory of teacher preparedness. This suggests the need for continuous reflective training, stronger professional learning communities, and systemic support to enhance deep learning implementation in early childhood education.

Abstract

Coastal governance policies in Indonesia have undergone significant changes over time, influenced by dynamic knowledge development. This study aims to analyze the dynamics of coastal and small island governance policies in Indonesia using a Knowledge-Based Governance approach. The method used was qualitative content analysis of 67 regulations issued by the Indonesian government between 1960 and 2024. The results show that the knowledge gained in coastal zone management comes mostly from reflections on the past and the present. Dialectical learning involving public consultation and discussions among stakeholders is limited and has not been widely implemented. Co-evolution, in which stakeholders, knowledge, and institutions interact dynamically, is a key factor in creating policies that are responsive to environmental challenges. This study suggests that the government strengthen inter-agency coordination and increase the participation of the community and relevant parties in the decision-making process. This is useful for creating policies that are more flexible and adaptive to changes. Therefore, it is important to integrate learning that involves various perspectives to produce policies that are more innovative, comprehensive, and in line with the needs of Indonesia's coastal communities.

Abstract

This study aimed to develop and test the effectiveness of a mobile-based inquiry learning model with the integration of local wisdom to improve students' academic literacy and higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) in learning Indonesian in higher education. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest control group. The research instrument was validated through expert and empirical testing, resulting in a validity coefficient of r count > r table (0.361), and Cronbach's alpha reliability between 0.86 and 0.89. The results showed an increase in academic Literacy with N-Gain of 0.63 in the experimental group compared to 0.29 in the control group, and an increase in HOTS with N-Gain of 0.60 in the experimental group compared to 0.27 in the control group. The t-test showed a significant difference (t-count 4.28 and 4.02 > t-table 2.00, p < 0.05). Student responses to this learning model were also very positive (88% positive responses). These findings indicate that integrating inquiry models, mobile learning, and local wisdom effectively creates a smart learning ecosystem relevant to the demands of the 21st century and can strengthen critical Literacy, HOTS, and students' cultural awareness.

Abstract

This systematic literature review examines Jack Horner's characterization in "Puss in Boots: The Last Wish" as a paradigmatic critique of poststructuralist shallow-depth approaches to character analysis. Drawing on mass psychology theory, archetypal analysis, and Individual Psychology frameworks, this study challenges the dominant poststructuralist emphasis on interpretive complexity and semantic instability in contemporary character studies. Using a systematic review methodology, this research analyzes 33 high-quality studies across interdisciplinary domains, including character analysis, poststructuralist theory, mass psychology, and audience response research. The data sources included peer-reviewed articles, theoretical works, and empirical studies examining the effectiveness of character construction and cultural transmission mechanisms. The results demonstrate that Jack Horner's pure evil characterization achieves superior psychological resonance and collective engagement through archetypal depth rather than poststructuralist surface complexity. The physiological evidence of audience synchrony, cross-cultural validation of archetypal patterns, and pedagogical effectiveness in moral instruction consistently support depth approaches over interpretive multiplicity. This study contributes to cultural psychology and media studies by revealing how universal psychological patterns transcend poststructuralist limitations while maintaining practical applicability across diverse contexts. The findings indicate that archetypal character construction serves essential functions in collective meaning-making, moral development, and cultural transmission that poststructuralist deconstruction actively undermines, with significant implications for media production, educational policy, and contemporary approaches to character analysis in academic and cultural contexts.

Abstract

This study investigates the dynamics of Indonesian tourism from 2000 to 2024, emphasizing the dual roles of international tourist arrivals and domestic tourist trips. The analysis examines how international markets exhibit volatility in response to global crises, whereas domestic tourism demonstrates notable stability and resilience. This research employs official secondary data from Statistics Indonesia, including annual international arrivals, monthly arrivals by nationality, domestic trips by province of origin and destination, and tourism foreign exchange earnings. All datasets were standardized into a panel format and analyzed using descriptive quantitative methods combined with the periodization of crisis and recovery phases. The findings show that international arrivals are highly volatile, with sharp declines during the 2003 SARS episode, the 2008 global financial crisis, and especially the COVID-19 pandemic, with an approximately 80% drop in 2020–2021. In contrast, domestic trips reached 2.9 billion in 2019 and recovered quickly, surpassing 3.3 billion in 2023. Foreign exchange earnings move in tandem with international arrivals, averaging more than US$10 billion annually before 2014 and falling during crisis episodes. This evidence underscores a structural duality: international arrivals remain crucial for foreign exchange and global positioning, whereas domestic trips provide the backbone of resilience and local economic continuity. Policy implications include diversifying international markets, enhancing domestic tourism infrastructure and connectivity, and embedding the principles of resilient and sustainable tourism in national strategies.
