Abstract

Household food waste remains a significant environmental issue due to daily purchasing, storage, cooking, and consumption practices that often produce avoidable organic waste. This community service activity aimed to improve the practical understanding of housewives in Gland Valley Housing, Padalarang, regarding the prevention and utilization of household food waste. The activity applied a participatory educational approach through interactive presentations, contextual examples, a 5R visual guide, and two-way discussions. The 5R framework included Refuse, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle, and Rot, beginning with preventing excessive purchases and ending with composting inedible residues. Evaluation was conducted qualitatively by observing participant engagement, questions, and reflections during the activity. Participants identified common kitchen waste sources and discussed practical actions, including meal planning, stock checking, proper storage, portion control, sharing edible surplus, reprocessing leftovers, and composting. The activity demonstrated that simple and low-cost education can increase awareness and provide an applicable framework for household food management. Further mentoring and quantitative evaluation are needed to measure behavioral changes and reductions in food waste generation.

Abstract

Islamic boarding schools need accountable financial administration and broader funding access, yet many institutions still rely on fragmented manual records. This community service program aimed to improve the capacity of Al Ajwa Al Islamy Islamic Boarding School managers in digital accounting information systems, crowdfunding, and financial literacy. A participatory training and direct-assistance approach involved eight participants, comprising a management coordinator, administrative staff, finance staff, teachers, and a foundation representative. The program was implemented in two five-hour sessions through needs assessment, pre-test, guided practice, system implementation, discussion, and post-test. The average competency score increased from 66.3 to 85.8, equivalent to a relative gain of 29.4%. The largest improvement occurred in crowdfunding knowledge, from 58.8 to 90.0, followed by digital accounting information systems from 70.0 to 85.0 and financial literacy from 70.0 to 82.5. The assistance also supported the digitization of 150 student records, the use of a digital tuition-payment matrix, and the preparation of a digital fundraising campaign. The program strengthened operational readiness, although follow-up assistance is required to evaluate sustained use and actual fundraising outcomes.

Abstract

Malaria remains a significant public health problem in several endemic regions of Indonesia, including Sumbawa Regency. The transmission and spread of malaria are strongly influenced by the presence of Anopheles mosquitoes as the primary vector. One of the strategies to reduce malaria cases is the distribution of Insecticide-Treated bed Nets (ITNs) to populations living in malaria-endemic areas. This community service activity aimed to improve community knowledge and understanding of malaria prevention through the appropriate use of insecticide-treated bed nets. The methods employed included health education, demonstrations on the proper use of insecticide-treated bed nets, education on mosquito breeding site control, and evaluation using pre-test and post-test assessments. The results demonstrated an improvement in participants' knowledge following the health education sessions. In addition, participants showed enthusiasm throughout the activity and expressed their commitment to using insecticide-treated bed nets regularly as a malaria prevention measure. It can therefore be concluded that health education had a positive impact on improving community knowledge regarding the use of insecticide-treated bed nets. Continuous health education and multisectoral collaboration are essential to support the successful implementation of malaria elimination programs within the community.

Abstract

Pancasila education in elementary schools plays a crucial role in shaping students' character based on national and religious values. However, the conceptual delivery of Pancasila values often fails to encourage internalization of these values in students' daily lives. Therefore, this community service activity aims to educate elementary school students about Pancasila values, grounded in religious teachings, through storytelling. The activity was conducted at the MI Ittihadiyah Foundation using an educational-participatory method, encompassing preparation, implementation, and evaluation. The material was presented through stories on the themes of honesty, mutual assistance, and respect for differences, integrating Pancasila values with religious teachings. Evaluation was conducted through observation, question-and-answer sessions, and reflection to determine students' level of understanding and engagement during the activity. The results showed that the storytelling method increased students' active participation, facilitated their understanding of the meaning of Pancasila values, and encouraged them to relate moral messages to their daily behavior. The integration of religious values into stories also helps students understand the relationship between religious teachings and the implementation of Pancasila values, particularly regarding the aspects of divinity, humanity, unity, and social concern. Therefore, the religious teaching-based storytelling method is an effective and contextual approach to instilling Pancasila values in elementary school students and supporting the strengthening of character education from an early age.

Abstract

Bullying in elementary schools often goes unnoticed, particularly at the beginning of the school year when new students adapt to the school environment. This community service program aimed to support the implementation of a child-friendly School Environment Orientation Program (MPLS) and strengthen early bullying prevention. The activity was conducted on 15 July 2025 at an elementary school in West Bandung Regency and involved 58 new students and six teachers, consisting of one principal and five classroom teachers. The program used a participatory and narrative approach through simple case-based storytelling, interactive discussion, teacher guidance on initial responses to suspected bullying, and joint reflection. Evaluation was conducted descriptively through direct observation of participants’ attention, verbal responses, questions, and involvement. Students actively responded to the cases and shared relevant experiences, while teachers showed strong interest in supportive and nonjudgmental handling. The activity indicates that case-based storytelling can help students understand bullying and encourage teachers to prioritize protection, communication, and recovery for victims, perpetrators, and witnesses. Continued school-based follow-up is needed after the MPLS period.

Abstract

The implementation of green chemistry principles in senior high school and vocational school chemistry education remains limited, highlighting the need for practice-based learning to improve students' knowledge and green skills. This community service program aimed to enhance the knowledge and green skills of senior high school and vocational school students in Surakarta through training on environmentally friendly hand soap formulation based on green chemistry. The program involved 20 student representatives from several schools in Surakarta and was conducted at the Industrial Chemistry Laboratory, Applied Bachelor Program in Industrial Chemistry, Universitas Duta Bangsa Surakarta. The activities employed participatory learning and experiential learning through lectures, demonstrations, laboratory practice, and evaluation using pre-tests, post-tests, green skills assessment rubrics, and participant satisfaction questionnaires. The results showed that the average knowledge score increased from 56.3 ± 9.2 to 87.1 ± 6.4, representing a 54.7% improvement with a statistically significant difference (p < 0.001). The average green skills achievement reached 90% (excellent category), while participant satisfaction reached 97%. The training also produced environmentally friendly hand soap with good physical characteristics in accordance with green chemistry principles. Overall, the program effectively improved participants' knowledge, practical skills, and environmental awareness through laboratory-based learning.
