Abstract

This article examines the originality of Al-Ṭabarī's interpretation of legal verses in Sūrat Al-Anʿām through library research employing a qualitative-descriptive approach and comparative analysis. Primary data are derived from Al-Ṭabarī's exegetical work, Jāmiʿ al-bayān fī taʾwīl al-Qurʾān, while secondary sources include tafsir literature, journals, and studies on classical exegetical methodology. The analysis proceeds by identifying legal verses, classifying legal topics, analyzing Al-Ṭabarī's interpretive method, and comparing it with other classical exegetes. The findings reveal four dimensions of Al-Ṭabarī's originality: first, a novel methodology integrating tafsīr bi al-maʾthūr with controlled rational analysis (raʾy); second, contextualization of meaning in relation to Arab social reality; third, critique of weak opinions, whether due to deficient chains of transmission (sanad) or contextual inappropriateness; and fourth, juridical tarjīḥ (preferential weighting) regarding exceptions under exigent circumstances. Al-Ṭabarī's rational istinbāṭ (deduction) is both methodological and argumentative—innovative not only in transmitting tradition but also creative in organizing narrations toward a systematic legal framework. This study affirms Al-Ṭabarī's significant position in the development of classical legal exegesis and highlights his contribution to a normative-argumentative interpretive model that influenced subsequent exegetes, while also opening space for re-reading legal construction within the turāth (heritage).

Abstract

This study examines Ibn Ashur's interpretation of the maqasid (objectives) of the verse on polygamy in Surah An-Nisa verse 3 and its relevance to contemporary family dynamics. In the context of Islamic law, polygamy is often understood as an absolute right, even though normatively the Qur'an requires justice as the main principle, which is very difficult to achieve in practice. Through the maqasid al-syari'ah approach, Ibn Ashur interprets the permissibility of polygamy as a conditional form of rukhshah aimed at protecting vulnerable groups, such as orphans and women who have lost protection after war. This study uses a qualitative method with a literature review and content analysis of the tafsir al-Tahrir wa al-Tanwir. The results show that the practice of polygamy that does not consider the principles of maqashid, such as justice, protection of life, family stability, and social welfare, has the potential to cause family dysfunction, emotional instability, and social and economic crises. Ibn Ashur's maqasid interpretation offers a more ethical, contextual, and relevant approach in responding to the practice of polygamy in the modern era, as well as being an important reference in the renewal of Islamic family law that is just and beneficial. Based on these findings, it is recommended that the maqasid al-syari'ah approach be integrated into the formulation of Islamic legal policies and religious education curricula to ensure that the practice of polygamy is carried out proportionally and responsibly. Religious institutions and educational institutions are also expected to take a strategic role in building a contextual understanding of legal verses in order to avoid textual interpretations that have the potential to harm vulnerable parties

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the educational financing management of Australian International Islamic College (AIIC) based on its 2024 Annual Report. The research employed a qualitative approach using a document analysis method. Data were obtained from the AIIC Annual Report 2024, which contains information on the institution’s profile, student characteristics, human resources, community engagement, and financial statements. Data were analyzed through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that AIIC has a financing system supported by diversified revenue sources, including funding from the Australian Government, state governments, tuition fees, and other private income. In 2024, AIIC generated a total revenue of AUD 31,065,874 and recorded total expenditures of AUD 27,054,143. The largest proportion of the budget was allocated to personnel costs and educational operational expenses. In addition, AIIC invested AUD 91,000 in professional development programs for educators as part of its efforts to enhance educational quality. The effectiveness of AIIC’s financing management is reflected in its high student retention rate of 88.33%, stable student attendance rates exceeding 91%, and the increasing number of graduates admitted to leading universities across Australia. This study concludes that effective, transparent, and quality-oriented financial governance plays a crucial role in maintaining the sustainability of modern Islamic educational institutions. The findings suggest that diversified funding sources, strategic investment in human resources, and sound financial management practices contribute significantly to improving educational quality and institutional performance

Abstract

The Akidah Akhlak subject plays a crucial role in shaping religious understanding and character development of students in madrasah. One of the topics taught is Shi'ah as part of the discussion on schools of thought in Islamic theology (kalam). This study aims to analyze the content and presentation of Shi'ah material in the Akidah Akhlak textbook for Madrasah Aliyah and to examine its implementation in learning at MAN 2 Pamekasan. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques through in-depth interviews and documentation. Data analysis was conducted through data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the Shi'ah material in the textbook has covered basic learning aspects, such as definition, historical emergence, the concept of imamah, and group classifications. However, the presentation of the material remains general, textual, and lacks contextual depth, with a dominance of the bayani epistemological approach, thus it has not been optimal in fostering students' critical thinking skills. The implementation of learning is carried out through lecture and group discussion methods with time constraints of only two to three meetings, resulting in students' understanding remaining at a basic level and not yet reaching in-depth analytical levels. This study recommends the need for developing more contextual, objective, and dialogical materials and learning strategies in Akidah Akhlak instruction

Abstract

This study analyzes academic and professional supervision in the implementation of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning evaluation in educational institutions. The research focuses on how supervision is planned, implemented, followed up, and connected to the development of authentic and holistic assessment. This qualitative descriptive study used in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation of lesson modules, supervision records, and assessment instruments involving principals, supervisors, and PAI teachers. Data were analyzed through reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings show that supervision has been conducted through planning, classroom observation, feedback, and follow-up; however, its practice remains dominated by administrative control and has not consistently strengthened authentic assessment. PAI evaluation is still focused on cognitive tests, while affective and psychomotor dimensions receive limited attention. The study argues that collaborative, reflective, and value-based supervision is needed to improve teachers’ professional capacity and Islamic assessment quality. Normative foundations from the Qur’an and hadith on amanah, justice, muhasabah, ihsan, advice, and leadership responsibility strengthen the ethical basis of supervision

Abstract

Madrasahs, as Islamic social institutions in Indonesia, face increasingly complex challenges due to the influence of state education policies and the dynamics of religious identity. This study aims to analyze changes in the functions of madrasahs through three main aspects: shifts in religious traditions resulting from educational standardization; disruptions to institutional functions caused by the exploitation of religious identity for purposes other than education; and the ability of madrasahs to maintain their roles and identities. The study employs a qualitative approach using a literature review analyzed through qualitative content analysis and interpretive analysis, drawing on the perspectives of Pierre Bourdieu, Talcott Parsons, and the theory of institutional resilience. The research findings indicate that, first, educational standardization policies have driven a shift in the orientation of madrasahs from a pesantren-based scholarly tradition toward meeting academic and administrative standards; second, the use of religious identity for purposes beyond educational functions has the potential to weaken the role of madrasahs in preserving shared values and social integration; third, pesantren-based madrasahs demonstrate adaptability through the strengthening of scholarly traditions, curriculum integration, and the leadership of kiai who are responsive to change. This study confirms that the function of madrasahs continues to undergo adjustments in the interplay between state policy, socio-religious dynamics, and the evolving traditions of Islamic education within society.

Abstract

This article examines the integration of learning theories in the development of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) learning technology in the digital era. The study uses a qualitative library research method by analyzing classical and contemporary literature on behaviorism, cognitivism, constructivism, humanism, connectivism, instructional media, learning experience, and Islamic educational values. The findings show that behaviorism contributes to the formation of religious habits, cognitivism strengthens conceptual understanding, constructivism supports contextual and collaborative learning, and humanism develops self-awareness and spiritual reflection. These four theories are further strengthened by connectivism, which explains learning through digital networks; Dale's Cone of Experience, which clarifies the role of media in transforming abstract Islamic values into more concrete learning experiences; and Bruner's representational theory, which guides learning from enactive experience to iconic visualization and symbolic understanding. The article argues that PAI learning technology should not be reduced to technical media, but should be developed as an integrative pedagogical system rooted in Islamic values, critical digital literacy, and spiritual formation. This integrative model ensures that technology serves not merely as a delivery tool but as a transformative medium that connects habituation, conceptual understanding, social experience, spiritual reflection, knowledge networks, and representational learning

Abstract

This study aims to analyze producer behavior from an Islamic perspective by integrating the principles of maqashid al-shari’ah with the demands of sustainable halal business practices. The study employs a qualitative approach using library research. Data were obtained from the Qur’an, Hadith, classical and contemporary Islamic economic literature, and relevant scholarly articles, and were analyzed using content analysis through the stages of identification, reduction, categorization, interpretation, and synthesis of concepts and previous research findings. The findings show that Islamic producer behavior goes beyond normative halal compliance and represents an integration of tawhid, khalifah, maqashid al-shari’ah, justice, trustworthiness, and ihsan throughout the production process. These principles are translated into concrete practices through halal and tayyib standards, supply-chain transparency and traceability, consumer and worker protection, social responsibility, and sustainable environmental management. The novelty of this study lies in developing a conceptual framework that positions producers simultaneously as economic, moral, and development agents, with maqashid al-shari’ah serving as the orientation for evaluating production behavior. This framework extends the understanding of Islamic producer behavior from a focus on sharia compliance toward a production model that integrates economic efficiency, social welfare, environmental sustainability, and spiritual objectives

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between filial obligation and inheritance inequality experienced by daughters as caregiving daughters in Muslim families from a gender perspective. It aims to analyze the social construction of filial obligations, the recognition of caregiving contributions, and the reproduction of gender inequality in inheritance practices. The study employs an empirical legal approach using qualitative methods in Central Lampung Regency, East Lampung Regency, and Metro City, Indonesia. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and document analysis and were analyzed using Filial Obligation Theory, Patriarchy Theory, Distributive Justice Theory, and the concept of living law. The findings indicate that filial obligations have become feminized through patriarchal norms that position daughters as the primary caregivers for aging parents. Although they devote substantial time, effort, health, and economic resources to caregiving, care work is generally regarded as a moral obligation rather than an economic contribution relevant to inheritance distribution. This practice reveals a gap between formal justice based on heirship status and substantive justice based on actual contributions to family welfare. This study introduces the concept of Caregiving-Based Inheritance Inequality, referring to inheritance injustice arising from the failure to recognize caregiving contributions. The findings advocate for the development of more gender-responsive inheritance law by integrating the value of care work as a consideration of substantive justice within the family.
