Abstract

This study focuses on the students’ ability in writing analytical exposition texts in second grade at SMAN 8 Jambi City in the academic year 2020/2021. This study aims to determine the students ability in writing analytical exposition text in terms of the structure of the analytical itself, namely Thesis, Argument, and Reiteration. The purpose of this research is to see the students’ ability in writing analytical exposition text. This research was conducted at SMAN 8 Jambi City. This research used a descriptive qualitative method by taking the sample used simple random sampling and then obtained XI IPS 2 with the total number of 36 students as subject of the research. The instrument used is writing test based on the topic that has been determined by this research. In this study this research used an assessment rubric adapted from the Hamp-Lyons theory used by a team of assessors who are experts in the field of writing. The result of this study showed the students’ ability in writing analytical exposition text were: 6 students get very good criteria, 14 students get good criteria, 10 students get adequate criteria, and 6 students get poor criteria. This means, most of the XI IPS 2 at SMA N 8 Jambi City students got “good” criteria in writing Analytical Exposition Text. Therefore, students have to pay attention to their writing skills and all criteria that must be met to make good writing.Key Words: Analytical exposition, Writing test, Writing ability.

Abstract

This research use quantitative research. This research use purposive sampling to take sample. This research uses one class to interview and test. This research took XII Tourism as a sample, XII Tourism consist of 33 students. After interview and test the result of the research there is students who take an external English course and students who don’t. From all 33 students 15 of them take an external English course and 18 do not take an external English course. In percent form, approximately 45, 45% of students take an external English course and approximately 54, 54% of students don’t. The result of test and interview is the students speaking ability does not completely relate to weather they take an external English course or not. Because when it comes to language, we have to use it to master it. The students have to use it even when they not in class so they will used to using it. The other factor that determined students ability, and there is circle and habits.  It can be conclude that H0 is accepted and Ha is rejected. It is suggested to the future researchers who are interested in deeper studying about how to make the students more excited to learn English especially speaking. The future researchers can use this research as a reference.

Abstract

AbstractThe aim of this research is to know the students’ ability in TOEFL Structure Section tests of sixth semester at Batanghari University Academic Year 2016/2017. The sample of this research are 20 students sixth semester at Batanghari University which consist of two classes, regular A and B. The design of this research is descriptive method because the researcher just analysis the students’ ability in TOEFL Structure Section test. Based on the data analysis, the sixth semester students of English Education Study Program attained 60% which belong to fair category in Structure and Written Expression part. Based on the result of the research and the discussions that have been previously discussed in chapter IV, it can be concluded that the students’ ability in TOEFL Structure Section tests of sixth semester of English Education Study Program at Batanghari University was 60%, it belong to fair category. Keywords: Students’ Ability, TOEFL Structure Section Tests

Abstract

This study aims to find out what are the students' problems in using English pronouns in using personal and possessive pronouns at SMP Negeri 15 Jambi. In this study, this research used qualitative research. The subjects of this study were class VIIG students of SMP Negeri 15 Jambi in the academic year 2021/2022. All problems in the use of pronouns have been categorized and identified, namely subject, object, possessive adjective, and possessive pronoun. In simple terms, the students face more problems in using object pronouns. This can be seen from the percentage results where the problem of using object pronouns is 35.2%, questions are answered incorrectly. Meanwhile, at least students face problems in using possessive pronouns by 14.4%.  The result of this research found that the seventh grade students of SMP Negeri 15 Jambi mostly face the problem of using object pronouns, which is the most difficult thing for students because they do not really understand how to use object pronouns.

Abstract

This research was done to find the effect of Kahoot online media on students’ scores in learning personal pronoun at tenth grade of SMA N 9 Kota Jambi Academic Year 2020/2021. The researcher used a quantitative method and experimental design as the research methodology with random sampling. The purpose of this research was to find out whether there was any significant effect of kahoot online media on students’ scores in learning personal pronoun. The sample of this research was at tenth grade of SMA N 9 Kota Jambi.This study involved 60 students, there was consist of 30 students of control class (X IPS 2) and 30 students of experimental class ( X IPS 4) at tenth grade of SMA N 9 Kota Jambi academic year of 2020/2021 as the object of the study and divided into two classes. Students’ scores in learning personal pronoun is effect after treatment Kahoot online media which is proven with students’ score higher than before treatment. The average pre-test control class 37,1 and post-test control class 48,7. Average pre-test experimental class 41,5 and post-test experimental class 83,5. Kahoot online media makes learning process more interesting. The value of t-test higher than the value of t-table (26,11> 2,001). Based on the finding above, it can be concluded that Kahoot online media has a significant effect of students’ scores in learning personal pronoun at tenth grade of SMA N 9 Kota Jambi.Key Words : Kahoot, Online Media, Personal Pronoun

Abstract

A simple way to find out the influence of the first language on speaking ability is to give a test in the form of a speaking test. This research uses quantitative as a research design and descriptive as a research methodology. The study took the student population of class XI IPA at Sma N 8 Jambi City in the 2021/2022 school year, and the sample was students of class XI IPA 4 and XI IPA 1 in the academic year 2021/2022. This study uses a test given to the respondents as a research instrument, and then the results of the test are assessed and analyzed. The author asks students to conduct a speaking test according to the theme that has been determined by the author. From the author's test, it was found that the scores obtained by experimental and control class students were normal. This is evidenced by the normality test conducted by the author. In addition, the average score in the experimental class was 14.07 and the average score in the control class was 14.52. Then the t test is done to see if there is an influence on the results of the author's study. The result obtained is that there are differences in scores in experimental classes and control classes.

Abstract

The purpose of this research is want to know is correlation between students’ motivation and reading comprhension students at the second semester at English language education at University of Batanghari. The research is using is quatitative research with a Descriptive, which the data that get is quantitative data and the data is explained as describe. The population of this research is the at second semester students at English Language Education at Univesity of Batanghari and the were 30 respondents were as the sample. The data was  get from the students’ motivation quesionnaires and reading comprehension. the test. After analyzed and calculate the data, it was found that mean of students’ motivation questionnaires was 63% (19) the categorized was in high score, and 37% (11) the categorized was in score low. 0% none was in categorized very high and very low. And the range score of the reading comprehension was 30. The maximum score was 70 and the low score was 40. Meanwhile the sum 1720. The result showed that 87% (26) the categorized good, and 13% (4) the categorized poor. 0% none of the had very good and very poor reading comprehension. It was found the result of the correlation between students' motivation and reading comprehension  is  0.71 is higher that the level of correlation probability which score sig. 0.00. The result indicated that the  is rejected and the is accepted which means that there was a correlation between students’ motivation and reading comprehension at the second semester students at English Language Education at University of Batanghari.Keywords : Students’ Motivation, Reading, Reading Comprehension.

Abstract

AbstractThe objective of this study was to find out the result of Using Story Telling technique To Improve Reading Ability at The Seventh Grade Students of SMPN 5 Jambi. The population of this research was all the seventh grade students of SMPN 5 Jambi which is grouped into ten classes. The class was taken as the sample was class VIIA consist of 33 students and VIIB consists 33 students by cluster sampling. The design of the research was experimental method. The research used two groups, experimental group and control group. Both of groups takes a pre-test and post-test. The researcher did two treatments for the sample. Abstract

This research was aimed to analyzed the educational values in the novel entitled “Never Let Me Go” by Kazuo Ishiguro. The educational values that were expected to found were believing and being faithful to god almighty, being noble moral, healthy, knowledge, competence, creativity, independent, becoming democratic citizen and responsible. The researcher use descriptive qualitative approach to analyzed the novel. Specifically, the researcher used content analysis in gathering the data. The data were gathered by reading the novel thoroughly to identify and classify the educational value that can be found. The results of the study show that there were only seven educational values that can be found in the novel. Sorted from the most frequent encounters to the least are the value of responsibility, creativity, being noble morals, competence, healthy, knowledge and independent. Meanwhile, the other educational values, namely being faithful to god almighty and becoming democratic citizen, were not exist in this novel.Key Words: Novel, Educational Value

Abstract

This research design uses quantitative research methods with data collection techniques through tests. Where the population in this study was 293 students with samples taken were students of class X Hospitality 3 with a random sampling technique consisting of 26 students. This research consists of problems, research objectives, research methods, research findings and conclusions. The background of this research doing this research was the writing of students' descriptive texts using picture media. The components analyzed in this study were organization, grammar, vocabulary. In collecting data, this research used a written test instrument. This research analyzed students' writing based on five categories, namely: very good, good, average, fair, poor. The results of this study concluded that 26 students of class X  3 at vocation high school 4 Jambi City at the level of writing descriptive texts got an average score of 31.40 from the results of the tests carried out and according to Harris (1969) the average value was included in the fair category. Meanwhile, the average score for each aspect obtained by students, namely, in the organizational aspect was 2.3, this was included in the fair category, and the grammatical aspect was 1.73 which was included in the poor category and the vocabulary aspect was 1.42 including the poor category.
