Abstract

This study aims to explore the use of the UTM Geo Map application as a physics learning media to understand the concept of slope. The research uses a qualitative approach with subjects being students from the S1 Science Education Study Program at Universitas Negeri Manado for the 2023/2024 academic year. The research consists of five stages: planning, application usage practice, data collection, data analysis, and conclusion drawing. The study shows that the slope analysis between two coordinate points in Universitas Negeri Manado, 1.2666026° N, 124.8826783° E and 1.2730803° N, 124.8904382° E, results in an angle of 3.62°, categorized as a gentle slope. The practice of utilizing UTM Geo Map helps students relate physics theory, particularly the concept of inclined planes, to real geographical phenomena encountered in their surrounding environment. Students can also create contour lines, identify elevations, and observe topographic shapes directly through the application’s features. Student feedback indicates that the learning process becomes more contextual, engaging, and meaningful. The use of geospatial-based technology provides an effective alternative to enrich learning experiences, especially in physics education that requires real visualization of spatial and field concepts.

Abstract

This study aimed to analyze student perceptions and the impact of Project-Based Learning (PjBL) integrated with English for Physics (EFP) on students' conceptual understanding in the Physics Laboratory II course. Addressing previous research gaps that focused separately on physics concept understanding or EFP instruction without involving laboratory experiments, this study involved 10 physics students from Universitas Negeri Manado. Data were collected through perception questionnaires and post-test conceptual understanding tests, then analyzed to evaluate the effectiveness of this approach. The results indicated that PjBL significantly enhanced students' conceptual understanding, with the class's average post-test score reached 83.00. PjBL's contribution to conceptual understanding was particularly high in "Sensor Working Principles" (100%), "Experiments" (80%), and "English for Physics" (75%). Students also held very positive perceptions of PjBL, reporting increased learning activeness, concept comprehension, independence, and 21st-century skills such as collaboration and scientific communication. Nevertheless, it was found that English language confidence and mastery of technical terminology still require further attention. This study concluded that the integration of PjBL and ESP is a highly effective method for fostering deep conceptual understanding and scientific communication skills, preparing students for practical applications and global challenges.

Abstract

The quality of rubber products, particularly Ribbed Smoked Sheet (RSS), is crucial for Indonesia's automotive industry. Currently, quality assessment at PT KMS Rubber Factory relies on visual inspection, leading to subjective and inconsistent results. To address this, this study developed an RRS color detection system using a TCS3200 sensor and Arduino. The research followed a waterfall methodology, with testing conducted at Ahmad Dahlan University and PT KMS using RRS samples of varying quality. Results showed that the TCS3200 sensor effectively detected color variations with reasonable accuracy, though unstable lighting conditions affected performance. The use of a black box significantly minimized external light interference. Additionally, the study revealed that the factory’s RRS quality was actually categorized as RRS 2 and RRS 3, contrary to workers' visual assessment, which had classified it as RRS 1. This system offers an efficient solution for the rubber industry, particularly for small producers and farmers, to enhance quality control. Furthermore, the device serves as a practical educational tool for learning about color, light, and sensor technology. Thus, this innovation has strong potential to improve rubber product quality and production efficiency in Indonesia.

Abstract

The local wisdom of Angklung as a cultural heritage is utilized in physics learning to bridge abstract concepts. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) approach using Angklung in improving the conceptual understanding of sound intensity and cultural appreciation of high school students. The research method used a quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest nonequivalent control group model in two classes, namely experimental and control at SMA Negeri 1 Percut Sei Tuan. The experimental group used a CRT-Angklung based module that linked the physics principles of sound intensity with cultural values, and the control group used conventional learning. Results showed a significant increase in concept understanding in the experimental group (N-Gain=59,8%) compared to the control group (49,2%), with 81% of experimental students reaching the high category in cultural appreciation. Student participation observations also recorded higher enthusiasm (93%) in the experimental group during Angklung practice. These findings prove that integrating local culture through CRT not only overcomes physics misconceptions, but also strengthens students’ cultural literacy, supporting contextual learning relevant to Merdeka Belajar policy.
