Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of implementing the Tracker application-based Project Based Learning (PjBL) model on improving student learning outcomes in free fall motion material. This study is based on the lack of use of technology-based learning media in physics learning, as well as low student active involvement in the learning process. The method used is a quasi-experiment with a pretest-posttest control group design. The research subjects were 11th grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Tondano, consisting of two classes, namely the experimental class and the control class. The results showed a significant increase in student learning outcomes in the experimental class compared to the control class. The average post-test scores of students in the experimental class were higher than those in the control class. The use of the Tracker application was effective in helping students understand the concept of free fall motion through video and graphic analysis. Based on statistical tests (t-tests), a significance value of less than 0.05 was obtained, indicating that there was a significant difference in learning outcomes between the two classes.

Abstract

Conceptual skills in physics are an essential foundation for students to understand natural phenomena deeply and analytically, yet conventional teaching often fails to connect abstract theory with real-life contexts. This study aims to develop a physics learning module integrated with the local wisdom of the Toba Batak Taganing on mechanical wave material to enhance students' conceptual skills. The developed module links concepts of waves, resonance, and interference with the acoustic principles of the Taganing musical instrument through a Problem-Based Learning approach. Expert validation results demonstrated a high level of feasibility, with details of 78% (Feasible category) by subject matter experts, 85% (Highly Feasible) by cultural experts, and 97% (Highly Feasible) by language experts. A limited trial with grade XI students showed an improvement in conceptual skills, specifically an abstraction ability of 71% (Good) and systematic thinking of 72% (Good). Teacher and student responses to the module were very positive, with a practicality level of 81%, indicating that the module is not only easy to use but also contextual and engaging. These findings confirm that integrating local wisdom into ethnoscience-based physics learning design is not only effective in strengthening students' conceptual understanding but also plays a strategic role in preserving cultural heritage and fostering learning engagement.

Abstract

The Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model provides opportunities for students to develop critical thinking and higher-order thinking skills in solving problems. However, in the pre-cycle stage, students’ cognitive learning outcomes on geometric optics material were still low. This classroom action research aimed to improve students’ cognitive learning outcomes through the implementation of PBL combined with Thinking Maps and digital reading materials on the topic of optical instruments. The subjects were 35 eleventh-grade students at a senior high school in Palangka Raya City. The study was conducted in two cycles consisting of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The results showed an increase in classical mastery from 71.42% with an average score of 74.74 in the first cycle to 80% with an average score of 77.82 in the second cycle, which met the success indicators as more than 75% of students achieved learning mastery and the class average exceeded the minimum mastery criterion. The implementation of PBL assisted by Thinking Maps and digital reading materials effectively helped students gain a deeper understanding of optical instrument concepts. This finding provides practical contributions for teachers in optimizing PBL strategies integrated with visual thinking tools and digital learning resources to improve physics learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the needs for developing Project Based Learning (PjBL)-based e-modules to enhance high school students’ critical thinking skills. A descriptive qualitative method was used, with data collected through classroom observations and interviews with physics teachers and students of grades XI and XII at MAN 2 Tebo. The results showed that physics learning is still dominated by the lecture method, with textbooks and student worksheets as the primary learning resources. Teachers have never used e-modules or fully implemented PjBL due to limited understanding of the model syntax and insufficient facilities. The most difficult material for students to understand is Thermodynamics, especially concepts such as internal energy, entropy, and thermal cycles, which are considered abstract and hard to visualize. Students expressed difficulties due to the lack of real examples and limited use of interactive media. They expect interactive digital learning resources equipped with animations, experiment videos, visual summaries, and exercises. Classroom observations also revealed limited technological infrastructure, such as few computers and projectors, as well as restrictions on mobile phone use. These findings emphasize the need to develop PjBL-based e-modules as an alternative learning medium to support contextual and engaging physics learning and foster students’ critical thinking skills in line with the Merdeka Curriculum.
