Abstract

In this study, the researcher analyzed the emotional expressions in three selected songs from Frank Ocean’s Blonde album, namely Ivy, Self-Control, and Godspeed. The research applies Parrott’s (2001) theory of emotions, which categorizes emotions into three levels: primary, secondary, and tertiary. A descriptive qualitative method was used to identify the emotions conveyed in the song lyrics. The findings show that the lyrics depict various emotions. Primary emotions, such as surprise and sadness, arise from spontaneous reactions. Secondary emotions, like hope and longing, are revealed through deeper reflections. Tertiary emotions, which are more complex, reflect emotional maturity and acceptance, as seen in the lyric "I let go of my claim on you, it is a free world." This study concludes that the Blonde album not only presents simple emotional reactions but also portrays a deep and complex emotional journey. These findings provide insights into how emotions are expressed through song lyrics and can serve as a reference for further studies in music and linguistics. Keywords: Emotions, Parrott’s theory, Frank Ocean, Blonde.

As for the interactive session, telling, and reading with a loud voice type of class interaction, most students think that this type of class interaction has not been able to improve their speaking ability because some students are still nervous, feel embarrassed, and still lack vocabulary. This is also confirmed by the teacher, apart from that lack of learning media in schools. The outcome of the data analysis will determine After the exam, the average score was 86.42, up from 75.00 before. The results show an improvement between the pre-and post-test scores, with the post-test mean score being higher than the pre-test mean score (86.42>75.00). The result was a 13.92% increase in performance between the pre-and post-tests. Based on the results of the hypothesis test, we may say that the Alternative Hypothesis (H1) is correct and that the Null Hypothesis (H0) is wrong. The study's author deduced this conclusion from the fact that pupils' reading comprehension levels were significantly different before and after the intervention. H1 was accepted as the alternative hypothesis while H0 was rejected as the null hypothesis. With a mean value of 0.4532, the N-Gain score falls into the "moderate" group when categorized. Therefore, the study's premise was that students' reading comprehension would be worse off if teachers used lengthy reading activities. Keywords: Reading Comprehension, Extensive Reading, Literal, Interpretative, Critical
