Abstract

The development of social media has transformed the way individuals construct and present their social identities, particularly among university students. Instagram has evolved beyond a mere visual content-sharing platform into a strategic arena where individuals actively shape and manage their self-image before digital audiences. This study aims to examine students' strategies in presenting self-image on the front stage, to explore the role of Back stage in maintaining image consistency, and to understand how students perceive the difference between their online and offline selves. A qualitative approach with a narrative inquiry method was employed, involving five active students from the Public Relations Study Program at Universitas Indonesia, class of 2024, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, documentation, and literature review, with source triangulation applied for data validation. The analysis was conducted through Erving Goffman's dramaturgical perspective, encompassing four key concepts: front stage, Back stage, Impression management, and Audience segregation. The findings reveal that self-image management on Instagram is a deliberate and strategic process, manifested through rigorous content curation, multi-account ownership as a means of separating public and private spaces, and the archiving of posts as a corrective image mechanism. All informants exhibited tension between the desire for authentic self-expression and the performative demands of digital social norms. Instagram was assigned diverse meanings, ranging from a social medium and personal branding tool to a canvas of personal identity. This study affirms the enduring relevance of dramaturgical theory in digital contexts and implies the need for digital literacy education.

Abstract

This article examines the complex interactions between the military and civil society in regions affected by conflict, approached from a sociological-legal perspective. The study seeks to understand how military power influences civil society, the ways in which legal and social legitimacy are established, and how local communities respond military presence and control. Employing a qualitative case-study methodology, the research utilized in-depth interviews with community members and military personnel, extensive field observations, and detailed analysis of relevant legal documents. The findings reveal that military power structures significantly impact civil rights, security, and social dynamics, with interactions ranging from cooperative engagement to open conflict. Furthermore, the legitimacy military actions closely linked factors such operational performance, transparency, accountability, and social acceptance by local populations. Based on these insights, the article argues for the importance improving communication channels between military forces and communities, integrating formal legal frameworks with local norms and practices, and actively involving community members in security and governance programs. These measures are proposed as strategies to enhance the legitimacy of military operations, reduce conflict, and promote long-term social stability. The study contributes the broader understanding of civil-military relations by highlighting the sociological and legal dimensions of military influence in conflict-affected areas.

Abstract

This study examines the relevance of the thought of Augustine of Hippo, particularly the concept of credo ut intelligam (“I believe so that I may understand”), in addressing the crisis of faith in the modern era. The background of this research is rooted in the tendency of modern society to prioritize reason while neglecting faith, leading to skepticism, relativism, spiritual emptiness, and the loss of existential meaning in human life. These conditions cause many individuals to lose their sense of direction, moral foundation, and spiritual relationship with God. The purpose of this study is to analyze how Augustine’s thought can function as a bridge between faith and reason within the context of contemporary life. This research employs a qualitative method using philosophical and hermeneutical approaches through the study of Augustine’s writings and other supporting literature. The findings reveal that Augustine did not reject reason; instead, he regarded faith as the foundation that enlightens human reason in attaining truth and genuine knowledge. Therefore, his thought remains relevant as a philosophical and spiritual guide for overcoming crises of meaning, morality, and faith in modern society.

Abstract

. Land ownership disputes in Indonesia often involve unauthorized occupation of land by parties lacking a valid legal basis, creating challenges for courts in assessing transaction validity and the evidentiary strength of ownership certificates. This study examines three legal issues in Decision No. 4/Pdt.G/2023/PN Boyolali: the validity of a land sale and purchase transaction before a Land Deed Official (PPAT), the evidentiary strength of Certificate of Ownership No. 01276, and the classification of the defendants’ conduct as an unlawful act under Article 1365 of the Civil Code. This research employs a normative juridical method with a case study approach using primary legal materials, including court decisions and statutory regulations, supported by secondary doctrinal sources. The analysis shows that the transaction before the PPAT fulfilled the requirements of Articles 1457–1458 of the Civil Code as well as customary law principles of transparency (terang) and immediate payment (tunai), thereby establishing its legal validity. The ownership certificate also served as strong documentary evidence under Article 32(1) of Government Regulation No. 24 of 1997, while the defendants failed to present authenticated evidence to support their claims. Moreover, the defendants’ continued occupation of the disputed land without lawful basis and despite repeated demands to vacate satisfied the elements of an unlawful act. This research contributes an integrated analytical framework combining transaction validity, certificate evidentiary strength, and unlawful act doctrine in Indonesian land law.

Abstract

The development of information technology has driven significant changes across various aspects of life, including the national legal system, thereby requiring regulations that can govern digital activities in an effective, fair, and adaptive manner. In this context, the Law on Information and Electronic Transactions (UU ITE) serves as a primary legal instrument to regulate activities in cyberspace, such as electronic transactions, the recognition of digital documents as legal evidence, the protection of digital economic actors, and the handling of cybercrime. This study aims to analyze the role and effectiveness of UU ITE in supporting the development of digital law in Indonesia and its relevance to national development in the era of digital transformation, using a normative juridical method with statutory and conceptual approaches, as well as literature review of primary, secondary, and tertiary legal materials analyzed qualitatively through a descriptive-analytical method. The results show that UU ITE plays an important role as a legal foundation for digital governance; however, its effectiveness still faces challenges such as ambiguous provisions, limited capacity of law enforcement officials, low levels of digital literacy in society, and the increasing complexity of transnational cybercrime. This indicates that the success of digital law depends not only on legal norms but also on effective implementation, the professionalism of law enforcement, infrastructure readiness, and public understanding, thus requiring more adaptive regulatory reforms, strengthening of human resources, improvement of digital literacy, and synergy among the government, private sector, and society to ensure that the development of digital law proceeds optimally, fairly, and sustainably.

Abstract

Human trafficking is a serious crime that violates human rights and causes physical, psychological, and economic harm to victims. Therefore, the state provides legal protection to victims, one of which is through restitution. This study aims to examine and analyze the implementation of restitution for victims of human trafficking and to identify the obstacles in its enforcement based on Decision Number 177/Pid.Sus/2021/PN.Kpg and Decision Number 34/Pid/2022/PT KPG. This research uses an empirical juridical method with a qualitative approach. Data were collected through interviews with public prosecutors and related parties, as well as literature studies on laws and court decisions. The results show that the implementation of restitution has not been optimal, even though it has been decided by the court. This is caused by several factors, including the inability or unwillingness of offenders to pay restitution, limitations in execution mechanisms by prosecutors as executors, lack of coordination among institutions, and low legal awareness among victims. Thus, the implementation of restitution for victims of human trafficking still faces various obstacles, resulting in the non-fulfillment of victims’ rights optimally. Therefore, stronger regulations, improved roles of law enforcement officials, and more effective implementation mechanisms are needed to ensure the protection and recovery of victims’ rights.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the function of digital spaces in the online game Valorant as an arena for group communication among players, as well as to identify the communication patterns that emerge in team interactions whilst playing online. The research method employed is a qualitative descriptive design. Data were collected through participant observation of three Valorant teams playing regularly over a four-week period, in-depth interviews with 12 informants purposively selected based on their level of play, and documentation of text and voice conversations within the game. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which encompasses data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The research findings indicate that the digital space of the online game Valorant functions as a dynamic arena for group communication, characterised by three primary patterns. First, secondary communication patterns, wherein communication occurs via intermediaries such as team chat features or audio cues from other players. Second, one-way communication patterns, where the communicator conveys a message to the recipient as the final destination without immediate feedback, for example, one-way instructions during critical situations. Third, the circular communication pattern involves the continuous exchange of information and roles between the communicator and recipient, thereby creating a negotiation of shared meaning and strategy. These three patterns confirm that the space.

Abstract

Social injustice remains a persistent challenge in contemporary society, manifested in structural inequality, marginalization, and violations of human dignity. In this context, higher education particularly theological education plays a strategic role in fostering awareness and commitment to human rights and social justice. This article aims to analyze the role of human rights education in shaping students’ social justice awareness within the context of IFTK Ledalero. This study employs a literature review method using a contextual–reflective approach. Relevant academic books, journal articles, and institutional documents are analyzed to examine how human rights education contributes to students’ intellectual, ethical, and social formation. The findings show that human rights education significantly contributes to the development of critical awareness, ethical sensitivity, and social responsibility among students. Through the integration of philosophical reflection, theological insight, and social praxis, students are encouraged to read social realities critically and respond to injustice with moral responsibility. The study implies that human rights education in theological institutions needs to be strengthened through contextual and praxis-oriented learning. Such an approach enables students to internalize human rights values not merely as theoretical concepts but as lived commitments in the service of justice, humanity, and the mission of the Church in society.

Abstract

The principles of transparency and accountability constitute the fundamental basis of good governance. Technological advancements have encouraged the implementation of digital monitoring systems to enhance information openness and bureaucratic performance oversight in Central Jakarta. The development of digital technology has driven governments to adopt electronic-based systems, such as public service portals, citizen reporting applications, and monitoring systems based on the Internet of Things (IoT). This study employs a qualitative approach through a literature review (library research) utilizing secondary data. The data sources are derived from scientific journals, books, official government reports, and scholarly articles. The findings indicate that digital monitoring systems are effective in improving transparency through real-time information and strengthening web-based accountability. Furthermore, the integration of digital systems enables the creation of audit trails that support government performance accountability. However, several challenges remain in their implementation, including limited technological infrastructure, low levels of digital literacy among citizens, resistance to change, and minimal public participation. Therefore, strategies are needed to strengthen human resource capacity, improve infrastructure, and expand public outreach and digital literacy education. This study is expected to contribute to the development of digital-based governance that is transparent, accountable, and responsive to public needs.
