Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of the PAIKEM model (Active, Innovative, Creative, Effective, and Enjoyable Learning) in improving reading comprehension skills (maharah qirā'ah) among fifth-grade students at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Azharyah Palembang. The research employs a mixed-method approach, combining both quantitative and qualitative methods. The quantitative design uses a pretest-posttest with two groups: the experimental group using the PAIKEM model and the control group using conventional methods. A total of 20 students were selected through purposive sampling. Quantitative analysis shows a significant improvement in maharah qirā'ah skills after the application of the PAIKEM model, with the t-test results indicating a significance value of 0.001 (p < 0.05). Qualitative analysis, based on interviews and observations, indicates that students were more engaged and motivated in learning after the implementation of the PAIKEM model, as the learning process became more interesting, active, and enjoyable. The findings of this study conclude that the PAIKEM model is effective in improving maharah qirā'ah skills among fifth-grade students at Madrasah Ibtidaiyah Azharyah Palembang.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the challenges faced by elementary school students in understanding number concepts. The approach used is a qualitative method with a case study design. Case studies were chosen because they provide the researcher with an opportunity to explore in-depth the specific difficulties experienced by students, both in terms of concept understanding, basic principles, and verbal abilities. Focusing on one context allows for the acquisition of richer and more meaningful data regarding the challenges in learning number addition. Data collection was conducted through reviewing several journal articles, analyzing the issues, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that students often face obstacles in understanding number concepts, the principles of number addition, and in expressing their understanding verbally. Several contributing factors include a lack of precision when solving problems, failure to check answers, incorrect understanding of number formulas, inability to understand the intent of the questions, and difficulty in representing numbers visually. These findings can be used by classroom teachers as a reference to identify and address problems experienced by students. This contextual information is highly valuable in designing more effective teaching strategies to help students overcome difficulties with number concepts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of learning discipline as a mediating variable in the relationship between learning motivation and students’ academic achievement in Economics at SMA Negeri 8 Padang. Field observations indicate a gap between students’ high learning motivation and their suboptimal academic performance, suggesting the presence of an intervening factor within the learning process. A quantitative approach was employed using a survey method and path analysis technique. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 120 11th-grade social science students and analyzed using statistical software to test the relationships among variables. The findings reveal that learning motivation has a positive and significant effect on learning discipline, and both variables simultaneously have a significant impact on students’ academic achievement. Learning discipline was found to be a significant mediating variable that strengthens the influence of motivation on academic performance. In other words, students with high motivation who lack disciplined study habits tend not to achieve optimal learning outcomes. The study concludes that learning discipline plays a crucial role in bridging students’ internal motivation and their academic success. These findings emphasize the importance of fostering structured and consistent learning behaviors to improve student achievement, especially in subjects that require conceptual understanding and logical reasoning such as Economics. This research is expected to contribute to the development of more effective, character-oriented learning strategies.

Abstract

Islamic education plays a crucial role in improving the quality of human resources. Ideally, Islamic education functions to prepare high-quality human resources, focusing on both mastery of knowledge and the practice of religious teachings. Therefore, Islamic education must be integral, harmonious, and universal so that humans can fulfill their duties as khalifah (steward) and servants of Allah. This educational concept was advocated by Muhammad Natsir during the late colonial period in the Netherlands. One of the perspectives Natsir used to integrate education was by establishing integrative Islamic educational institutions (Pendis), which combined religious education with general education, preventing a divide between the two. At that time, religious education was heavily influenced by traditionalist Islam, while colonial government education and modernist Muslims emphasized worldly knowledge and skills. The goal of Islamic education as envisioned by Mohammad Natsir was to shape individuals who are faithful, pious, ethical, advanced, and independent, possessing high spiritual resilience and the ability to adapt to the dynamics of societal development. Moreover, the purpose of human life is to attain happiness both in this world and the hereafter, which can only be fully achieved by both. Islamic education is inseparable from human life.

Abstract

The background of this study stems from the socio-legal reality in Dharmasraya Regency, West Sumatra, where the existence of ulayat land, as part of the Minangkabau customary heritage, is increasingly challenged by state legal interventions—particularly in the context of development, industrial expansion, and land certification programs. While indigenous communities still uphold customary legal systems in managing ulayat land, the state introduces positive legal regulations that often neglect local wisdom and communal ownership values. This has led to issues such as agrarian conflicts, loss of collective land rights, and marginalization of adat institutions. The aim of this research is to explore the interaction between state law and customary law in the management of ulayat land in Dharmasraya, and to identify patterns of harmony or conflict that arise in practice. This is a qualitative study using a case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews with traditional leaders, nagari government officials, land agency representatives, and local residents, supported by field observations and document analysis of relevant legal frameworks and regional regulations. Findings reveal that in several nagari such as Koto Padang and Sungai Duo, the management of ulayat land still relies heavily on kinship-based collective decision-making. However, this is gradually being eroded by the implementation of the Systematic Land Registration Program (PTSL), which promotes individual ownership. Interviews show that 60% of traditional leaders feel their authority is being diminished, while 70% of community members admit they do not fully understand the legal implications of ulayat land certification. A duality of authority has emerged, complicating mediation in disputes between indigenous groups and external investors. In conclusion, the interaction between state and customary law in Dharmasraya remains imbalanced and largely disharmonious, with state law dominating land administration practices. This research recommends the development of policies that contextually integrate customary norms into the national legal framework, as well as the empowerment of local customary institutions. These efforts are essential to ensure the sustainable management of ulayat land as both a cultural identity and an economic resource for indigenous communities.

Abstract

Islamic economics as an alternative solution to the socialist and capitalist economic systems that have failed to provide economic welfare in the world. Islamic economics needs to be implemented, especially in areas inhabited by a Muslim majority. Serang City, with a predominantly Muslim population, is an ideal place for the implementation of Islamic economics. The community's need for halal financing alternatives has become an issue that needs to be addressed together by both the community and local government. This relatively new study aims to analyze the aspirations of the community regarding the formation of a Sharia BPR Regional Owned Enterprise (BUMD) in Serang City within the regional work plan. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with data collection through observation, questionnaires, and interviews. The results indicate that based on the community's aspirations gathered through channels such as student organizations, religious organizations, academics, and community leaders, it was found that the people of Serang City expressed the need for the establishment of a Sharia BPR BUMD in Serang City, given the needs and rights of the Muslim community in Serang City in particular, as well as the spirit of moving away from usury, which needs to be facilitated. Therefore, this study recommends the formation of a Sharia BPR BUMD in Serang City.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the limited use of instructional media in the IPAS (Integrated Science and Social Studies) subject. The frequent use of conventional and monotonous media leads to student boredom, lack of engagement, and poor concentration, ultimately affecting learning outcomes. To overcome this problem, this study developed interactive learning media using Articulate Storyline 3 on the topic "Indonesiaku Kaya Raya" for fifth-grade students at SDN 07 Sitiung. The objective was to produce media that is valid, practical, and effective for elementary classroom use. This study employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach based on the ADDIE model, which includes five stages: Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation. The analysis stage identified the needs of teachers and students and analyzed the subject matter. The design stage involved the development of teaching modules, media prototypes, and research instruments. During the development stage, the media underwent expert validation. The implementation stage tested the practicality and effectiveness of the media. Evaluation was conducted continuously throughout all stages. The validity test, conducted by nine experts, resulted in a score of 83.47% (very valid). The practicality test showed 75% teacher responses (practical), 86.28% student responses (very practical), and 90.75% module implementation (very practical). The effectiveness test reached 93.87%, indicating the media is very effective. Based on these results, the interactive learning media developed using Articulate Storyline 3 is considered valid, practical, and highly effective, and is therefore suitable for use in IPAS learning at the elementary school level.
