Abstract

This paper is aimed to examine how the influence of e-commerce use on the income of cayenne pepper farmers, but it is related to the price fluctuation of cayenne pepper. The price fluctuation of raw chilli here acts as an intermediate variable so that this research will be analyzed using Path Analysis. This research uses a quantitative design with a case study research technique. This research was conducted in Ongkoe Village, to be precise in the Machero neighborhood, Belawa District, Wajo Regency, South Sulawesi. The results of path analysis illustrate that indirectly the use of e-commerce through fluctuations in chili prices has a significant effect on increasing farmers' income. Even though it is of small value, it is hoped that farmers can find and take advantage of existing e-commerce in carrying out their daily activities. It is hoped that farmers can find and utilize e-commerce in order to bypass long marketing channels so that consumers do not get higher prices and farmers can sell their crops at a satisfactory price.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the impact of crop failure due to drought on household food security of rice farmers in Banyumas Regency which occurred during the second planting season in 2019. Analytical descriptive method was used in this study, with the technical implementation of the research using the survey method. The method of research analysis is by comparing the level of household food security of rice farmers in Banyumas Regency when farmers experience a normal harvest with when farmers experience harvest failure. Measurement of the level of food security using the Jonsson and Toole Model, namely by cross-classifying the Food Expenditure Share (FES) and Energy Adequacy Rate (EAR). After collecting and analyzing the data, it was found that crop failure did not affect the amount of energy adequacy ratio relative to farm households. However, crop failure affects the Share of Food Expenditure, where farming households that have high FES are increasing. With the increase in FES, this results in lower household food security, because FES and food security are inversely related. With the harvest failure, the number of farm households that are food resistant decreases, food vulnerability increases, food insecurity increases and food insecurity increases.

Abstract

This paper aims to find out about the commercialization of agricultural land, and the current model of agricultural land commercialization in West Koya and East Koya, and the Jayapura City’s goverment attitude toward the lack of agricultural land in Jayapura City area. This is a qualitative research, using a social phenomenology paradigm. The results showed that the increasingly dense population of Jayapura City has led in the expansion of the city towards Koya region which is suburb area. Smooth transportation facilities and good infrastructure make Koya region more evolving. The land price in Koya area depends on the sale value of tax object, it is also influenced by the lack of land used as a place to live due to the density increasing of urban area so that the resident seek residential land in Koya area. Transmigrants or farmers who have no knowledge basis in agriculture, and have difficulty dealing with rice pests, causing them to be reluctant to plant rice, and difficult to adapt to the environmental situation. Farmers are more benefited by converting the farmland to fishery land. By utilizing former farmland to be used as a public fishing pond as amusement or tourism place. The economic pressure of community at the beginning of transmigration program was a heavy burden that felt by them, while the needs as supporting tools were hard to find. The high cost of living is the cause of transmigrants’ inability to survive, therefore, they decided to leave their transmigration land by selling it to a second party.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the vertical rice market integration between the rice market at the farmer level and the rice market at the wholesale trader level. This research uses monthly rice price for farmers and wholesaler from January 2013-July 2020 obtained from the Central Bureau of Statistic Indonesia. The results of the cointegration test indicate a long-term balance relationship between price changes at the farm level and prices at the wholesaler level. The estimation results of the vector error correction model show that the short-term balance relationship only occurs between changes in wholesale prices affected by changes in wholesale rice prices three months ago, premium rice prices at the farmer level three months ago and medium rice prices at the farmer level one month ago. The change in rice prices at the farmer level was only the premium rice price which was influenced by changes in the price of rice at the wholesale level three months ago.

Abstract

The utilization of rice straw as compost is very related to farmers' knowledge on how to compost agricultural waste. Knowledge of rice straw composting owned by farmers is closely related to socialization and training obtained from field extension officers (FEO). The role of FEO in the field becomes very strategic in an effort to increase farmers' knowledge about agricultural waste treatment and its utilization so as to provide economic impact. The purpose of the research is to understand the knowledge and perception of farmers about composting rice straw. By using survey and interview methods, this research also seeks to uncover farmers' knowledge related to rice straw compost. The research was conducted in 3 sub-districts in Klungkung (Klungkung, Dawan, and Banjarangkan) during May-June 2017. The results showed that farmers do not know how to compost rice straw because only 2.25% of farmers have ever attended rice straw composting training. Dominant farmers (74.16%) view if rice straw cannot be composted. The results of interviews with FEO in the Klungkung district obtained the fact that FEO never socialized rice straw composting.
