Abstract

The freedom to use Christian religious symbols in Jayapura City creates social unrest and jealousy for other people. This article aims to analyze the religious symbols used by Christians, intense contestation of religious symbols by Christians in Jayapura City, and ideas about its arrangement. This qualitative research uses the paradigm of social phenomenology. This study found that Muslims in Jayapura City is the second largest after Protestant Christianity, but religious development is ranked third after Protestant Christianity and Catholicism. Islam is considered the religion of migrants. The rise of Christian religious symbols in Jayapura City as holy people who have majority control and have freedom of expression in religious symbols is carried out by religious groups in other areas and applied in Jayapura City. The role of central government policy is needed to emerge various ideas in the community in the region. Regional regulations provide freedom for the use of religious symbols. The religious majority who control the government sector has control over the use of religious symbols rather than minority groups by making rules that bind religious communities and raise the exclusivity of the majority group. The local parliament members (DPRD)'s inability to realize the aspirations of the Muslim community of Jayapura City is due to the lack of Muslim members of the local parliament (DPRD). Hence, they have limited numbers in supervising emerging policies, including the use of religious symbols.

Abstract

This research tries to completely describe the Mayor of Jayapura's call about the draft regional ordinance on the usage of Noken as an alternative to plastic bags at Jayapura City shopping facilities. It is a qualitative study using the social phenomenology paradigm, involving passive participatory observation, interviews, and documentation. It employs Miles and Huberman's flowchart analysis tools. The Mayor's request for the use of Noken bags in shopping decreases the impact of using plastic bags, which are difficult to degrade with soil in a short period of time. The use of the Noken bag also introduces Papuan culture, which has a straightforward and straightforward philosophy. Rational action in the form of an appeal from the Mayor of Jayapura is looked for, in anticipating the problem of plastic trash that is difficult to degrade by soil and minimizing the accumulation of plastic garbage in rivers in the city of Jayapura, which results in annual flooding. The application of Noken, which sets aims and behaviors through norms, has a philosophical connotation that lies beneath Papuans' common understanding, namely simplicity and transparency. Noken establishes a positive relationship between symbolic arrangements in Papuan society, displaying the forms and patterns of life of the Papuan people, particularly in the city of Jayapura, which reflects the meaning of the simple Papuan people and their openness to others in preserving Papuan culture.

Abstract

Kelemahan (Weakness): Sulitnya mencari bahan baku pembuat varian rasa. Lilinta Village is a village located in the West Misool district, Raja Ampat Regency, West Papua Province. This village is identified with quality fish producers in Raja Ampat. However, the large number of fish caught by fishermen cannot be processed optimally by the local community, this has an impact on the results of the low selling value of fish. This great potential of fish can be processed into a souvenir product, which so far has not existed in Lilinta Village. The purpose of this service is to manage fish to become a typical Candlestick fish shredder, namely ABOLI (Abon Ikan Lilinta) which can be managed directly by mamas in Lilinta Village to become a home industry. The service method used is the PDCA method (plan, do, check, action), which includes product planning, to the form of assistance carried out. The results of the form of service carried out are product analysis, product packaging forms, product marketing, assistance in the form of product manufacturing training and strategies in entrepreneurship, up to the launch of the ABOLI product. SWOT Analysis: Strength: The only product in Lilinta Village, the main ingredient comes from Lilinta Village, namely quality fish, does not use preservatives. Weakness: It’s difficult to find raw materials for flavor variants. Limited internet network is an obstacle to marketing using social media. ABOLI is the first product unique to Lilinta Village. It is a tourist area to be an advantage in marketing. Threats: In the future, shredded fish products from the same region will emerge which will create competition. By using attractive packaging and marketing techniques that have been conveyed during the community service assistance, it is hoped that it will motivate mothers to produce ABOLI to become a bigger home industry.

Abstract

The purpose of the study was to explain the implementation of the Damar tradition in the community of Patipi, Fak-Fak Island Regency, West Papua Province. The Damar Tradition welcomes the night of Lailatul Qadar by lighting torches using resin sap. The research method used a qualitative model with a social phenomenological paradigm and a flow model analysis technique. This research produced several findings regarding implementing the Damar tradition as follows. The Damar tradition in Patipi Island developed orally from generation to generation. Islam, as a religion with plenty of followers in Patipi Island, adapts to its culture to form a tradition in enlivening the night of Lailatul Qadar. Damar tradition begins in the last ten days of Ramadhan month, exactly in the odd number of fasting days: the 21st day, the 23rd, the 25th and the 27th day of fasting, respectively. The Damar tradition can unite the community and form of joy to welcome the night of Lailatul Qadar. The absence of fixed and given goods is a moral idea and shows the citizen's generosity. The gift belongs to the mosque management, so they carry out their duties and responsibilities properly. There is reciprocity in the form of prayers read by the mosque management, a form of dependence between the community and the mosque management. The symbols in the tradition have meanings that can be interpreted by the Patipi island community, in the form of incense burned while reading prayers, Raun or a gift holder made of woven coconut leaves, torches, gifts, and cleaning and giving sand to the grave.
