Abstract

Background: Reducing maternal mortality rate (MMR) and infant mortality rate (IMR) is a major challenge in maternal and perinatal health care. One effective approach to addressing these issues is to improve the quality of delivery assistance provided by trained medical personnel through health care facilities. Standardised prenatal care is a key step in optimising 1000 days of life, where good prenatal care can identify high risks such as anaemia, malnutrition, hypertension, and infection. Objectives: This study aims to increase the knowledge and understanding of pregnant women about the importance of standardised prenatal care during pregnancy to optimise 1000 days of life. The study was conducted at the Bakti Ibu Independent Midwife Service Centre (TPMB) in Murung Kenanga Village, Tanjung Rema Sub-district, Banjar Regency in 2023. Methods: This community service activity was implemented through a health promotion and community empowerment programme with a counseling and Communication, Information, and Education (IEC) approach. Steps include preparation, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation of activities. The population involved in this activity were 15 pregnant women. Results: The evaluation of the activity showed a significant increase in the knowledge of pregnant women regarding the importance of standardised antenatal check-ups. A total of 2 people (13.3%) who had good knowledge in the pre-test increased to 10 people (66.7%) in the post-test. Meanwhile, pregnant women who initially had poor knowledge (86.7% at pre-test) decreased to 5 people (33.3%) at post-test. Conclusion: This increase in knowledge is expected to contribute to improving the quality of maternal and perinatal care, as well as reducing maternal and infant health risks.

Abstract

Fish farming is a type of work that involves daily work in watery and wet places. Generally, fish farmers work without wearing protective equipment, which can cause their feet to become damp and wet, thus becoming a supporting factor for fungal growth. The aim of the activity is to increase public health knowledge about fungal diseases of the skin, nails and hair and reduce the morbidity rate of fungal infections by administering anti-fungal infection drugs to fish farmers in Cindai Alus, Martapura District. The methods used in this activity are pretest, delivery of material, taking nail samples and posttest. The sampling technique was purposive where samples were taken on the toenails of participants/partners who were indicated to have a fungal infection with the criteria of nail color being black, brittle and uneven and smelling. The results of Community Service showed that there was an increase in partners' knowledge about fungal infections of the skin, nails and hair based on the results of the questionnaire. After monitoring and evaluating for 2 months, it was found that there was a decrease in fungal infections, especially on the toenails and hands, from 18 people (55%) who were infected, down to 15 people (36%) who were still infected.

Abstract

Based on 2018 Health research, 61.9% of Indonesians aged 55–64 and 54.2% of those over 65 had dental and oral health issues (Sari & Jannah, 2021). Meanwhile, 59% of people in South Kalimantan reported having dental and oral health issues. Just 2.1% of people in the 10–14 age range properly wash their teeth (Basic Health Research, 2020). The behaviour of people still unable to comprehend the significance of maintaining dental and oral health is one of the many factors that contribute the high number of dental and oral disorders. This is demonstrated by the fact that only 8.1% of Indonesians, out of 77.2%, clean their teeth correctly, and that 22.8% of the population does not brush their teeth (Ulfah & Utami, 2020). The focus of this community service project is to help improve the dental and oral health of SDN Antasan Senor Martapura students by using Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART) and Fissure Sealant methods as both preventive and curative measures. Cross-sectional analysis and observation are the methods applied. Population represents 65 students classes I through V using total sampling method. After a preliminary assessment of sixty students, it was discovered that fifteen required ART treatment and twenty-three required Fissure Sealant treatment. Optimising dental and oral health using Fissure Sealant methods and ART as preventive and therapeutic treatments for dental and oral health is the suggested solution to this issue. The goal was accomplished since 23 students received Fissure Sealant and 15 students received ART. It is believed that SDN Antasan Senor Martapura is going to experience a decrease in dental caries and a rise in PTI as a result of this community project. To avoid tooth decay at an early age, it is advised that educators, parents, and students pay closer attention to dental and oral health

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) is a significant global health issue, including in Indonesia. Effective DM management relies heavily on patients’ knowledge and skills in managing diet and lifestyle. However, public awareness, especially in rural areas, remains low. This study aims to improve the knowledge and skills of DM patients in Melayu Village, Martapura Timur District, through a nutrition education program and practical application of meal regulation (3J: type, amount, and schedule of meals). The method used includes a two-day education program, counseling, monitoring, and evaluation of blood sugar levels. A total of 40 participants, consisting of 39 women and 1 man, participated in this activity. The training included lectures, discussions, and meal portioning practices. Measurements were taken before and after the training, including pretests, posttests, and blood sugar examinations. Results showed a significant improvement in participants' knowledge, with the average pretest score increasing from 69.2 to 78.1 on the posttest (p<0.05). Additionally, participants’ average blood sugar levels decreased from 219.8 mg% to 189.8 mg% (p<0.05) after the training. In conclusion, a well-designed nutrition education program can enhance DM patients' knowledge and skills in disease management and reduce their blood sugar levels. Ongoing education and monitoring are necessary to support successful DM management in the community.

Abstract

The prevalence rate of hypertension in South Kalimantan is at the top in Indonesia at 44.13% (Riskesdas, 2018). One of the causes of the increase in the number of hypertension cases in 2021 in Banjarbaru City is because the implementation of controlling NCD (Hypertension) risk factors still relies on health workers at health centers. The aim of this community service is to increase the knowledge and skills of cadres related to controlling NCD (Hypertension) risk factors as well as target partner services regarding measuring Hypertension risk factors, examining Hypertension risk factors and educating on the prevention and control of Hypertension risk factors through Posbindu non communicable disease (NCD). The implementation of this community service activity consists of two activities, health volunteers training and monitoring the implementation of hypertension risk factor control by health volunteers at Posbindu. The results of this community service were an increase in the average knowledge and skills of cadres in controlling hypertension risk factors.

Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases caused by high cholesterol levels have become a significant health issue in Indonesia, including in the Banjar Regency area. The low level of public understanding, particularly in riverbank communities, regarding the dangers of high cholesterol and its prevention methods, can increase the risk of cardiovascular disease occurrence. This community service program aims to strengthen the capacity of school students in the riverbank areas of Banjar Regency to recognize and prevent the risks of cardiovascular diseases caused by cholesterol. The methods used in this program include providing education through interactive lectures and simulations, as well as guidance related to cholesterol checks by the Banjarmasin Health Polytechnic team to students of SMPN 3 Simpang Empat. The results of the program show an increase in students' knowledge and awareness of cholesterol risk factors and preventive measures. It is suggested that through this program, students can become agents of change in their families and communities by adopting a healthy lifestyle to reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease in the future.
