Stunting or often called dwarf or short is a condition of growth failure in children under five years old (toddlers) due to chronic malnutrition and repeated infections, especially in the period of the First 1,000 Days of Life (HPK), namely from the fetus to the age of 2 years. The results of statistical tests with the Wilcoxon difference test showed that there was a significant difference (r=0,00) in the change in knowledge. Recommendations for training for motivational agents and training in other locations so that motivator groups can be formed in each fostered area.

Abstract

The brain health of pregnant women is an important aspect that affects maternal well-being and fetal development. Knowledge about health checks, including BSE (Breast Self-Examination), and the implementation of a healthy lifestyle during pregnancy play a major role in maintaining the brain health of pregnant women. This community service aims to optimize the brain health of pregnant women through BSE education and the implementation of a healthy lifestyle with the Interprofessional Collaboration (IPC) approach in the Assisted Village of the Tambarangan Health Center Area, Tapin Regency. The results showed that most pregnant women were aged 25-35 years (60.0%) and had little knowledge about BSE (60.0%). More worryingly, all pregnant women (100%) had never performed BSE. This low level of knowledge not only increases the risk of late detection of breast cancer, but can also trigger stress and anxiety that have a negative impact on the mental and brain health of pregnant women. Through the IPC approach, integrated education from various health professions (doctors, nurses, midwives, nutritionists, and psychologists) is carried out to improve the knowledge of pregnant women about BSE, stress management, and the implementation of a healthy lifestyle. This program helps pregnant women understand the importance of maintaining brain health by paying attention to nutritional intake, physical activity, and routine check-ups. This interprofessional collaboration plays an important role in integrating comprehensive promotive and preventive efforts, so that it can reduce the risk of physical and mental complications in pregnant women. These findings emphasize the importance of ongoing education and a holistic approach to improving the well-being of pregnant women in rural communities.

Abstract

Wasting is a condition of acute malnutrition that can significantly affect a child's growth and development. The prevalence of wasting still reaches 10.2% according to the 2018 Basic Health Research (Riskesdas) data, and in 2023, Barito Kuala Regency has become one of the areas with the highest rates. Wasting is caused by direct factors such as inadequate food intake and infectious diseases, as well as indirect factors like food security and parenting styles. The impact of wasting not only disrupts a child's physical health but also their cognitive and social development. To address this issue, a community service team from Poltekkes Banjarmasin implemented a program providing traditional ice cream to toddlers experiencing wasting for six days, accompanied by education on balanced nutrition for parents. The intervention results showed an average weight gain of 0.21 kg among toddlers in two villages, along with an increase in the knowledge of health cadres regarding the prevention and management of stunting. This program is expected to serve as a model for tackling malnutrition in the community

Abstract

Stunting is a condition where a child's height is shorter than the appropriate height for their age, which is caused by various factors, especially nutritional intake in the First 1000 Days of Life (HPK). Stunting has a negative impact on children's health and can hamper Indonesia's demographic bonus in the future. To prevent stunting, mothers need to get adequate nutritional intake during pregnancy and breastfeeding. However, preventing stunting must start from adolescence, because the impact of poor nutrition begins preconception. Previous research showed that 65% of female students at SMPN 3 Banjarbaru experienced anemia with hemoglobin (Hb) levels below normal. Therefore, education is needed to increase teenagers' knowledge in dealing with anemia in order to prevent stunting. This community service aims to empower active female students in the Youth Red Cross (PMR) and UKS as CAEM (Prevent Anemia) and Santun (Healthy Anti-Stunting) cadres. This activity is carried out through three stages: planning, implementation, and evaluation. The evaluation results showed that 79% of female students had normal Hb levels and 100% eosinophils within normal limits. The output of this activity includes the formation of youth cadres, increasing knowledge and skills, and improving the health of partners. Apart from that, there is cooperation between the Banjarmasin Ministry of Health Polytechnic and the fostered partners in the form of a Cooperation Agreement (PKS). All achievement targets for this activity were achieved, and it is recommended to involve teenage parents and experts in the field of Midwifery and Nutrition in further service activities.
