Abstract

Dysentery is a gastrointestinal infection characterized by bloody or mucoid diarrhea, abdominal pain, and tenesmus. One of its main causative agents is Shigella dysenteriae , a Gram-negative bacterium capable of causing epidemics and showing resistance to various antibiotics. Therefore, alternative treatments are needed, one of which is the use of traditional medicinal plants such as Peperomia pellucida L. (“sirih cina”). This study aimed to determine the ability of the ethyl acetate extract of Peperomia pellucida L to inhibit the growth of Shigella dysenteriae , and to identify the most effective concentration in exhibiting antibacterial activity. The research was conducted experimentally in the laboratory, involving simplisia preparation, maceration extraction with ethyl acetate, phytochemical screening, and antibacterial testing using the agar well diffusion method. Three extract concentrations were tested (20%, 25%, and 30%), with ciprofloxacin (5 µg) as the positive control and 5% DMSO as the negative control. Phytochemical screening revealed the presence of flavonoids, tannins, and terpenoids, while alkaloids, steroids, and saponins were not detected. Antibacterial assays showed that all extract concentrations inhibited the growth of S. dysenteriae with inhibition zones >20 mm (classified as very strong). The highest activity was observed at 30% concentration with an average inhibition zone of ±22.6 mm, approaching the effectiveness of ciprofloxacin. This study demonstrates that the ethyl acetate extract of P. pellucida possesses strong antibacterial activity and has potential as an alternative or combination therapy to reduce antibiotic resistance.

Abstract

Fungal infections are common health problems in tropical regions, including Indonesia, because humid environmental conditions support the growth of these microorganisms. Candida tropicalis is the pathogenic fungal species most frequently found, both as the cause of superficial and systemic candidiasis. The increasing resistance to synthetic antifungal drugs, such as fluconazole and ketoconazole, creates the need for alternative therapies that are safer and more effective. Propolis, a resinous substance produced by Trigona bees from various plant sources, is known to contain flavonoids, phenolics, and terpenoids that have important biological activities, including antimicrobial and antifungal effects. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of ethanol extract of propolis from Balikpapan against the growth of Candida tropicalis using the disk diffusion method. Phytochemical screening showed that the propolis extract contained alkaloids, flavonoids, phenolics, tannins, and terpenoids. The antifungal activity test demonstrated that extract concentrations of 80%, 90%, and 100% significantly inhibited fungal growth, with the largest inhibition zone observed at 100% concentration (27.93 mm). Statistical analysis using ANOVA confirmed significant differences among treatments. Therefore, it can be concluded that propolis extract from Trigona bees in Balikpapan has strong potential as a natural antifungal agent. These findings support the utilization of propolis as an alternative natural-based therapy for fungal infections and as a contribution to the development of natural pharmaceutical products.

Abstract

Abstract. Introduction: Every individual is required to always meet basic needs in order to maintain survival. One of the basic needs that humans need is sleep. One of the sleep disorders that is often experienced is insomnia, namely the inability of a person to sleep with sufficient amount and quality. Meditation techniquemindfulness is one of the techniques used to improve the quality of sleep in the general public who experience problems with poor sleep quality.Objective: To Know the effectiveness of meditation therapy exercises mindfulness against people who experience insomnia in the Megamendung Investigation Police Training Dormitory, Bogor Regency. Method:This study uses a quantitative research type, with a research design quasy-experimental, with the research design model ispre-test and post-test control group design. With statistical analysis used is Independent Sample T-test to compare the differences between the intervention group and the control group. Results: From the results of the independent sample t test, the P value between the intervention group and the group is 0.000 or <0.05 which indicates a difference between the control group and the intervention group. Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that mindfulness meditation therapy is effective in reducing insomnia levels in the Megamendung Police Research and Training Dormitory, Bogor Regency.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by hyperglycemia due to insulin deficiency or insulin resistance. The global prevalence of diabetes mellitus continues to increase, posing a significant health and economic burden to society. Conventional pharmacological treatments that are currently available often cause unwanted side effects, so alternative therapies that are safer and more effective are needed. This study aims to collect and analyze data related to the effectiveness of flower extract as an antidiabetic agent in reducing blood glucose levels and preventing complications associated with diabetes. The potential of Clitoria ternatea as an antidiabetic agent was explored through a systematic literature review. Article searches were conducted using scientific databases such as Google Scholar, ScienceDirect, and Mendeley with the keywords "Clitoria ternatea AND diabetes AND blood glucose". The inclusion criteria applied included experimental studies conducted on diabetic samples, interventions with bay flower extract administration, and publications within the last 5 years (2021-2025). From a total of 1,858 articles identified, by applying the PRISMA-ScR method, eight articles were obtained that met the inclusion criteria. The results of the analysis showed that flower extract was effective in reducing blood glucose levels in both diabetes-induced experimental animals and diabetic patients. This antidiabetic effect is thought to be due to the flavonoids and other bioactive compounds in butterfly pea flower that act as α-amylase enzyme inhibitors, antioxidants, and anti-inflammatories. These findings indicate the potential of Clitoria ternatea as a promising therapeutic alternative in the management of diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Salah satu aspek terpenting dalam melacak inventaris obat di apotek adalah membandingkan data stok dengan jumlah fisik sebenarnya. Apotek yang menekankan prinsip dan visi Islam mengevaluasi prosedur ini berdasarkan penerapan prinsip-prinsip Islam seperti tanggung jawab sosial, kejujuran, dan kepercayaan, di samping unsur teknis dan administratif. Untuk menggiatkan proses inventarisasi di Apotek Panghegar agar sejalan dengan visi dan prinsip Islamnya, penelitian ini dirancang. Metode deskriptif kualitatif, termasuk wawancara mendalam, observasi cermat, dan pencatatan yang teliti, digunakan untuk melakukan penelitian. Staf Apotek Panghegar telah menunjukkan tingkat kejujuran yang tinggi selama proses inventarisasi, yang didukung oleh dokumentasi yang tepat dan pengawasan yang memadai, menurut hasil penelitian. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa proses stock opname di Apotek Panghegar telah berjalan sesuai standar operasional prosedur (SOP) dengan tingkat integritas petugas yang baik, didukung oleh pengawasan dan dokumentasi yang memadai. Meskipun demikian, ditemukan bahwa belum semua obat memiliki sertifikasi halal dan belum ada prosedur rutin pengecekan kehalalan obat. Walaupun tidak terdapat pelatihan formal mengenai nilai keislaman, nilai-nilai tersebut telah tercermin dalam pelayanan staf dan pengelolaan kebersihan apotek. Penelitian ini menekankan perlunya penguatan sistem kehalalan obat dan integrasi nilai keislaman secara menyeluruh dalam pengelolaan farmasi.

Abstract

The tendency to use cosmetics in society makes cosmetic manufacturers compete to make their cosmetic products attractive and favored by buyers. Sometimes without paying attention to safety so that it can cause harm. This research aims to find out the use of hazardous materials in cosmetic products on the market according to the perspective of Al-Islam and Kemuhammadiyahan. From the results of this study, it is found that there are still many cosmetic products on the market that use prohibited or dangerous ingredients. This means that there are still many producers who have not been able to apply BPOM regulations, Islamic values and Muhammadiyah principles in practice in the pharmaceutical industry. Because from the perspective of Islam and Muhammadiyah, making cosmetics with hazardous ingredients can bring harm which is prohibited and contradictory.

Abstract

Effleurage massage, a gentle and continuous non-pharmacological massage technique, works based on the gate control theory to reduce pain by blocking pain signals and stimulating endorphin production. This qualitative case study was conducted on Mrs. U, a 30-year-oldwoman at 39 weeks 2 days of pregnancy. The study aimed to evaluate the effect of effleurage massage therapy on labor pain intensity during the first stage of labor. Labor pain often peaks duringthis stage, potentially triggeringanxiety, increasing adrenalinelevels, andreducingblood flow to the fetus. Unmanaged pain may lead to a negative and traumatic childbirth experience. Beforetheeffleuragemassage,Mrs.U’s pain scalewas 8 (severepain).After1 hour ofeffleurage massage applied to the lower back, the pain scale decreased to 4 (moderate pain). These results indicate that effleurage massage is effective in reducing labor pain during the first stage, enhancing maternal comfort, and can be applied as a simple and safe non-pharmacological intervention in healthcare settings.

Abstract

Pregnancy is a physiological process that brings about various physical changes, one of which is lower back pain, commonly occurring in the third trimester. Hormonal changes, weight gain, and a shift in the body’s center of gravity are the primary factors contributing to this complaint. Back pain can interfere with daily activities and reduce the quality of life for pregnant women. One non-pharmacological method that can be used to alleviate pain is warm compress therapy. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of warm compresses in reducing the intensity of back pain in third-trimester pregnant women. The method used is a case study with a descriptive observational approach and the 7-step Varney management (SOAP). The subject of the study is Mrs. A, at 39 weeks of pregnancy, who received regular warm compress therapy. The results showed a significant decrease in pain, from an average pain scale of 7 to 4 after the intervention. Warm compresses provide muscle relaxation, increase blood circulation, and reduce muscle tension due to ischemia. Based on the gate control theory, warm compresses suppress pain perception in the brain and provide comfort for pregnant women.

Abstract

The third trimester of pregnancy is a critical period in preparing for childbirth, one of which involves facilitating the descent of the fetal head into the pelvic cavity. Fetal head descent is an indicator of labor readiness and can be supported through non-pharmacological interventions such as yoga exercises. This study aims to determine the effect of yoga exercises on accelerating fetal head descent in third-trimester pregnant women. The research employed a qualitative method with a case study approach on a single subject, Mrs. A, 22 years old, G1P0A0, with a gestational age of 41 weeks and a fetal head descent of 4/5. The intervention consisted of prenatal yoga performed daily for six consecutive days, each session lasting 30 minutes. The evaluation results showed a fetal head descent from 4/5 to 2/5 following the yoga sessions. The yoga exercises included a combination of stretching, breathing techniques, and relaxation designed to improve pelvic muscle flexibility and optimize fetal positioning. These findings indicate that yoga exercises are effective in accelerating fetal head descent before labor and can serve as a safe, non-pharmacological management alternative that is simple to implement.

Abstract

Pandemi COVID-19 yang disebabkan oleh SARS-CoV-2 menimbulkan kebutuhan mendesak akan terapi baru yang efektif selain vaksin. Salah satu target potensial dalam pengembangan obat antivirus adalah enzim main protease (M^pro), yang berperan penting dalam replikasi virus. Flavonoid, senyawa polifenol alami yang banyak terdapat pada tanaman obat tropis, diketahui memiliki aktivitas biologis luas termasuk sebagai antivirus. Kajian literatur ini bertujuan mengeksplorasi potensi flavonoid dari tanaman obat tropis sebagai inhibitor Mpro SARS-CoV-2 melalui pendekatan molecular docking. Analisis dilakukan terhadap enam penelitian terkini (2020–2024) yang menggunakan metode virtual screening, molecular dynamics, dan prediksi ADMET. Hasil menunjukkan bahwa flavonoid seperti quercetin, rutin, naringin, hesperidin, dan kaempferol memiliki energi ikatan tinggi (−8,0 hingga −9,5 kcal/mol) serta berinteraksi kuat dengan residu katalitik HIS41, CYS145, dan GLU166. Beberapa senyawa juga menunjukkan stabilitas kompleks tinggi dan profil ADMET yang baik, menandakan potensi penghambatan yang efektif. Selain itu, sebagian flavonoid memiliki efek multi-target terhadap PLpro, Spike, dan RdRp, serta aktivitas antiinflamasi yang mendukung penurunan replikasi virus dan respon imun berlebihan. Namun, kendala seperti bioavailabilitas rendah masih menjadi tantangan, sehingga diperlukan inovasi formulasi dan uji lanjutan in vitro maupun in vivo. Secara keseluruhan, flavonoid dari tanaman obat tropis berpotensi kuat sebagai kandidat inhibitor alami terhadap SARS-CoV-2 yang menjanjikan untuk dikembangkan dalam terapi antivirus berbasis bahan alam.
