Abstract

Tambua Tansa is a Minangkabau tradition passed down from generation to generation in West Sumatra. One area that still pays attention to the existence of Tambua Tansa is Lubuk Basung, under Sanggar Shimpony Badantiang, founded by Marisha Isman in 2012. The focus of this research is on the form of Tambua Tansa performance developed by Sanggar Shimpony Badantiang, as well as the existence of this studio in Nagari Lubuk Basung. This research uses qualitative research methods, using a theoretical approach to performance forms and existence theory as supporting theories in examining the existence of Sanggar Shimpony Badantiang. The characteristics of the Tambua Tansa game use simple musical motifs which are then developed into songs. The songs that are often played in performances are divided into two songs, namely; Pangka Matam and Atam Panjang. The existence of Sanggar Shimpony Badantiang has been able to be maintained until now due to good organizational governance as well as creativity and innovation carried out by artists.

Abstract

Laksamana Raja Di Laut is a Malay song composed by Datuak Suhaimi (Pak Ngah) in 1993, which was popularized and sung by Iyeth Bustami. This song was rearranged by Ijunk for marimba solo and vibraphone, with Big Band accompaniment format. The accompaniment format for marimba solo with vibraphone is complemented by traditional Malay drums. The musical arrangement of this song into a solo, uses a new musical concept that offers hybrid music (mixed music), through the naming of a new genre by the arranger, namely Progressive Malay, by adapting a free-form approach and variations of the theme. The arrangement of Admiral Raja di Laut uses a tighter notation with thirty-second notes to display the arranger's imagination with vibraphone and marimba about the sea and the prowess of a sailor from the Malay lands.

Abstract

ABSTRACT  The film "Silogui" offers an authentic portrayal of children's lives on Siberut Island, Mentawai, West Sumatra, highlighting noble cultural values, reverence for nature, and the strong presence of ancestral spirits. The main narrative follows Kumey, who ventures to find Arenga palm wood with his friend, Aduy. Conflict arises when Kumey is disturbed by a great forest guardian spirit for failing to perform the Panki ritual. This incident leads Kumey to regret and promise to respect nature and ancestral customs. This journal specifically examines how musical illustration serves as the backbone of the narrative in "Silogui," analyzing how every note and rhythm not only accompanies but also actively shapes the cinematic experience, strengthening cultural themes, and deepening the emotions of the Mentawai child characters. Using a qualitative approach with semiotic analysis of music and film narrative, this research finds that music plays a crucial role in building atmosphere, representing spiritual values, and reinforcing messages of preservation. Keywords: Silogui, Kumey, Aduy,  Siberut, Mentawai, Panki

Abstract

Performances of musical repertoire from various eras, such as classical, modern, Malay, and popular, are wrapped into a solo violin performance in the form of interpretation and expression of works using musical performance techniques that contain conventional rules. This performance consists of several repertoires from different eras. The first repertoire is a repertoire that originates from the baroque era or the 16th century, entitled Concerto in E Major No. 1 Spring, with a combination of Antonio Vivaldi, which was created in 1725. The second repertoire is My Heart Will Go On, which is popular. The third repertoire is Laila Awkward, which Hamid and Amardi Raga created. Presenters interpret and express their repertoire by applying techniques such as arpeggios, trills, legato, and slurs to create a perfect performance.

Abstract

This composition raises the tradition of Tarek Pukat, an art and culture from the coastal communities of Aceh, as the basis for creating a musical composition entitled Tanoh Kamoe. This tradition, which reflects the spirit of cooperation and the life of fishermen, is adapted into a two-part musical composition using the Acehnese Fusion Ensemble format. The original melody of Tarek Pukat, which is simple and repetitive, is developed through musical processing techniques such as augmentation, diminution, imitation, and sequence. This composition consists of two parts: Part I emphasizes traditional musical instruments such as serune kale, rapa’i, vocals, and flutes, while Part II presents a modern nuance with orchestral instruments and a combo band. With a total duration of 15 minutes, this work describes the journey of fishermen from preparation, fishing, to sharing the catch. The creation method involves exploring music theory, interviews, and using software such as Sibelius. Through this work, it is hoped that local traditions can be preserved and recognized by the wider community while providing innovation in the processing of tradition-based musical art. Ensemble

Abstract

The musical composition “Babunyi” (a recomposition of Materak art in the minimalist music concept) is inspired by one of the kompang patterns found in Materak art, specifically the Kurang 1 pattern, which consists of the Induk (parent), Anak 2 (second child), and Anak 3 (third child) patterns. The concept of "Babunyi" utilizes a minimalist music approach, processed using the harmonic minor scale, and will be realized in a mixed ensemble format. The creation method for this work consists of three stages: exploration, experimentation, and realization. There are three structural processes in this composition: I (restricted pitch and rhythm materials), II (phasing), and III (long duration). The conclusion drawn is the use of minimal patterns followed by gradual changes until a complete musical composition is achieved.  Keywords : Materak, Kompang, Kurang 1, Minimalist Music, Mixed Ensamble.
