Abstract

This study explores the readiness of preservice teacher students to integrate local wisdom into mathematics instruction. With the growing emphasis on culturally relevant pedagogy, this research seeks to understand how PGSD students at Universitas Negeri Medan perceive the role of local wisdom in teaching mathematics. The study specifically examines students’ awareness of local cultural practices, their perceptions of the relevance of integrating these practices into math instruction, and their self-assessed confidence in applying such knowledge. A stratified random sampling technique was employed to select second- and third-year students enrolled in mathematics education courses. Data was collected through a structured Likert-scale questionnaire. The findings reveal that while students generally show high awareness and positive perceptions of local wisdom, some aspects, particularly those related to its practical application in mathematics, still require further development. Furthermore, students’ confidence in integrating local wisdom into their teaching practice varied, with some expressing uncertainty. The study concludes that although preservice teachers acknowledge the value of local wisdom, their readiness to implement it in the classroom requires more targeted training and exposure.

Abstract

This qualitative study explores the influence of digital literacy on microtransaction decision-making among university students engaged in online gaming. This demographic is significant as they exhibit varying levels of digital literacy and are key consumers in the gaming market. Through in-depth interviews with three purposively selected participants who have been active gamers for over five years, we analyze how digital literacy impacts behaviors related to virtual items. The findings indicate that students with higher digital literacy are better equipped to make informed purchasing decisions. In contrast, those with lower digital literacy struggle to discern reliable information, leading to impulsive buying behaviors and financial regret. The study highlights the important role of social influences and emotional engagement in spending decisions. Peer pressure and the desire for social acceptance often drive participants to make purchases that align with their friends’ behaviors, while emotional connections to games increase susceptibility to impulse buying. In conclusion, this research emphasizes the need to enhance digital literacy among gamers to empower informed financial decisions. By promoting digital skills, stakeholders can foster a healthier gaming environment that encourages responsible spending practices. Targeted educational initiatives are recommended to equip players with the tools necessary to navigate the complexities of microtransactions effectively, ultimately fostering more sustainable gaming habits

Abstract

he purpose of this study is to analyze the negative impacts of gadget use on early adolescents. The presence of gadgets, particularly in the form of smartphones, has significantly contributed to daily life as a medium for information retrieval, interaction, entertainment, and even online business activities. The advancement of information and communication technology is increasingly benefiting society. Gadgets, as one of the products of this technology, have transformed human communication behavior by transcending space and time. A gadget is a small electronic device with specific functions, such as a smartphone. Essentially, this technology was created to make human life easier and more comfortable. However, the rapid technological advancements today have made it nearly impossible to find any area of human life untouched by their use, whether directly or indirectly. Along with globalization and the demand for rapid information exchange, negative impacts on early adolescents have emerged. These impacts include health issues, educational challenges, disruptions in social interaction, and even effects on family economics. Excessive gadget use among early adolescents can trigger harmful side effects such as an increased risk of depression, health problems, anxiety disorders, difficulty focusing, and other problematic behaviors. Gadget addiction can also hinder adolescents from socializing with their surroundings and increase the risk of loneliness. The role of parents is crucial in setting boundaries to prevent gadget addiction among children and mitigate these risks.

Abstract

Education inequality in Indonesia remains a complex challenge, especially in remote areas and low-income communities. This study uses the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method to identify the main factors causing education inequality, such as limited infrastructure, shortage of qualified teaching staff, socio-economic barriers and government policy implementation constraints. The findings reveal that inadequate infrastructure and a shortage of qualified teachers are prevalent in rural and underdeveloped regions, significantly limiting educational quality. Geographical disparities and socio-economic challenges further exacerbate these inequalities, creating systemic barriers to equitable access. While programs such as the Indonesia Smart Program (PIP) and School Operational Assistance (BOS) have provided partial relief, their effectiveness is often hampered by unequal resource distribution and bureaucratic inefficiencies. This study recommends a data-driven approach for more effective resource allocation, cross-sector collaboration and strengthening of education policies to create an inclusive and sustainable education system. The findings provide important insights for policymakers to overcome structural barriers and ensure equitable education for all Indonesian children.
