Abstract

Integrating digital technology into elementary math education presents both opportunities and challenges, particularly in assessing students' mathematical communication skills. This study applies the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework to develop digital assessments for elementary students, focusing on varying self-confidence levels. Utilizing platforms like online portfolios and interactive simulations, the research evaluates students' abilities to communicate mathematical ideas through writing, visuals, and expressions. A mixed-methods approach combined quantitative data from self-confidence questionnaires and digital scores with qualitative data from digital portfolios and interviews. Fifth-grade students from the Assyfa Learning Center Pasuruan Foundation were grouped by self-confidence levels. Findings indicate a positive correlation between self-confidence and mathematical communication skills: students with high self-confidence met all indicators, while those with moderate and low self-confidence met fewer. Digital assessment tools enhanced evaluations and data richness. This study underscores the importance of integrating technology, pedagogy, and content knowledge in digital assessments and recommends ongoing teacher training and child-friendly platforms to boost equitable math assessment.

Abstract

Thinking is an activity that takes place in the mind/brain of each individual in order to synthesize problems to solve them, understand concepts, remember, create methods, or analyze events. Students will be able to analyze when they are able to use their thinking skills to understand a concept. By presenting learning that is designed with a comedy structure in the classroom, it can make the class atmosphere more enjoyable by not letting go of the concept or material being taught in order to achieve learning objectives, namely by Stand Up Comedy. This study aims to describe how comedians' mathematical thinking processes in high school students in Mathematical Logic material based on their mathematical abilities. This type of research is exploratory qualitative by collecting verbal data. Data analysis techniques use inductive, deductive, and analogy methods. The subjects used were 3 class XI students who had different mathematical abilities. The result of this study is that comedians think mathematically by using inductive, deductive, and analogy methods when writing Stand Up Comedy materials. Students' understanding of concepts is obtained from the thinking processes carried out by students, starting from the setup development process to the assimilation and accommodation processes. While the fun atmosphere in learning is obtained from the findings of the concepts they learn where in drawing conclusions using inductive, deductive, and analogy methods can trigger laughter from the audience.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of interactive media on students' mathematical communication abilities considering different learning styles. Unlike previous research that used a descriptive qualitative method, this study employs a quasi-experimental approach with a pretest-posttest control group design. The participants were seventh-grade students at MTs Ma'arif Roudlotut Tholibin Metro, consisting of six males and ten females with various learning styles. The experimental group was taught using interactive media tailored to their learning styles (visual, auditory, kinesthetic, and read/write), while the control group received traditional instruction. Data were collected through mathematical communication ability tests, learning style questionnaires, and classroom observations. The results showed that students who learned with interactive media had higher mathematical communication abilities compared to those who learned through traditional teaching. Among the learning styles, visual learners benefitted the most from the use of interactive media. These findings suggest that integrating interactive media into mathematics teaching can enhance students' mathematical communication abilities, especially when adapted to their preferential learning styles

Abstract

Students' mathematical communication skills are crucial for supporting conceptual understanding and problem solving in mathematics. However, many students still experience difficulties in relating mathematical ideas to everyday situations and clearly explaining mathematical concepts and relationships. This study aims to test the effectiveness of the Auditory Intellectually Repetition (AIR) learning model combined with the JKT 48 song "Fortune Cookie" in improving students' mathematical communication skills. Unlike previous studies that used a qualitative approach, this study employed a quantitative method with a One Group Pretest-Posttest design. The subjects were 23 seventh-grade students at MTs Ma'arif Roudlotut Tholibin Metro. The research instrument was a descriptive test administered before and after the treatment to measure improvements in mathematical communication skills. Data analysis using a paired-sample t-test showed a significant improvement in students' mathematical communication skills after the implementation of the song-assisted AIR model. The average pretest score of 19.21 increased to 81.73 in the posttest. These results indicate that integrating the AIR model with popular songs can be an effective innovation in enjoyable and meaningful mathematics learning
