Abstract

Tradition is a social practice that is inseparable from community life. It not only serves as a cultural heritage but also serves as a space for social interaction. In reality, tradition often acts as a bridge for dialogue between religious communities. Traditional practices allow individuals from different religious backgrounds to meet, interact, and build harmonious social relationships. In Kediri society, tradition serves as a means of bringing Muslims and Christians together in social life. The various traditions that develop in society are not solely followed by one religious group but often involve the participation of people from across religions. Joint participation in these traditions creates a natural space for dialogue, where values of togetherness, mutual respect, and tolerance can grow organically. This research on culture and interfaith harmony aims to comprehensively examine the role of tradition in the life of the multireligious community in Kediri. This research utilizes qualitative methods, including interviews, field observation and documentation, as well as data analysis using data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing techniques. The results indicate that tradition, in addition to being understood as a theological practice, also serves as a medium for dialogue between Muslims and Christians in Kediri. The unduh -unduh tradition, part of the GKJW Christian liturgy, has played a crucial role as a bridge of harmony between Islam and Christianity. This finding of culture as a bridge for interfaith relations reinforces Hans Kung's theory of interfaith dialogue and Pierre Bourdeu's theory of culture as capital in habitus.

Abstract

This study examines the reinterpretation of hadiths about orphans in relation to the phenomenon of fatherlessness in contemporary society through the perspective of Fazlur Rahman's double movement theory. In classical Islamic studies, an orphan is generally defined as a child who loses his father before reaching the age of puberty. However, modern social realities show that children who grow up without the presence of a father figure—whether due to divorce, labor migration, or emotional absenteeism—also experience similar social and psychological vulnerabilities. This study aims to examine how the ethical values contained in hadiths on orphans can be contextualized to address the challenges faced by fatherless children in modern society. This research uses a qualitative approach, employing the library research method, tracing hadith using the takhrij al-hadith method, conducting socio-historical analysis, and applying Fazlur Rahman's interpretation framework of the double movement. The results of the study show that the hadiths about orphans emphasize the principles of compassion, social responsibility, and protection of the rights of children in vulnerable conditions. Through the double movement approach, these principles can be extended not only to orphans in the classical sense but also to children experiencing fatherlessness. In addition, the concept of kafālah in Islam can be an ethical and institutional model in child protection by ensuring parenting, education, and emotional support without changing the identity of the child's nasab. This research contributes to the development of a more contextual hadith study while offering a normative perspective for strengthening child protection policies in contemporary Muslim society.

Abstract

Arabic holds a central place in the Islamic intellectual tradition as the language of the Qur’an. Therefore, Arabic instruction in Islamic higher education is expected not only to develop linguistic competence but also to integrate Qur’anic values into the learning process. However, in practice, much of the existing literature and instructional approaches continue to focus primarily on structural and linguistic aspects. Comprehensive models that systematically connect language skills with spiritual and ethical dimensions remain limited. This gap highlights the lack of a multidimensional framework that meaningfully integrates these elements. This study aims to examine the model and implementation of integrating Qur’anic verses into Arabic language learning at Universitas Sunan Drajat Lamongan. Using a qualitative case study approach, data were collected through classroom observations, in-depth interviews with lecturers and students, and document analysis. The data were then analyzed through an interactive process involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal a novel five-dimensional integrative model consisting of linguistic, contextual, thematic, value-based, and pedagogical integration. In this model, the Qur’an functions not only as a linguistic resource but also as an epistemological and pedagogical foundation. The implementation of this model follows a structured set of stages: introduction, language exploration, communicative practice, value reflection, and evaluation. This approach contributes to the simultaneous development of linguistic competence, communicative ability, and the internalization of Qur'anic values.

Abstract

Digital transformation has become a fundamental imperative in modern educational systems, including within the context of Islamic Religious Education (IRE). While mobile learning technologies offer significant potential for enhancing student engagement, their implementation in religious education still faces challenges related to digital literacy, infrastructure limitations, and alignment with Islamic values. This study aims to investigate the role of iPad-based learning innovation in enhancing student engagement in IRE within the framework of digital transformation. Employing a qualitative research approach with a case study design, this research was conducted at an Islamic primary school implementing a one-to-one iPad program. Data were collected through Classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and document analysis involving teachers, students, and school administrators. The findings reveal that iPad integration significantly transforms instructional practices by promoting interactive, student-centered, and technology-enhanced learning environments. The use of multimedia content, digital applications, and online assessments increases students' behavioral, emotional, and cognitive engagement. Analysis using the SAMR model indicates that iPad integration extends beyond basic substitution, reaching modification and redefinition levels that enable innovative learning experiences. The implications of this research suggest that the effectiveness of iPad-based learning depends on alignment among technology, pedagogy, and institutional support, requiring sustained investment in infrastructure and teacher professional development to ensure a successful digital transformation in Islamic education.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze pedagogical innovation in Islamic educational institutions and examine the paradigm shift from traditional teacher-centered learning toward modern student-centered learning approaches. The research employs a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method following the PRISMA framework to synthesize relevant literature on learning innovation in Islamic education. Data were collected from the Scopus database, resulting in 120 initial articles, of which 20 articles met the inclusion criteria and were analyzed in depth. The findings indicate that pedagogical innovation in Islamic education is primarily reflected in the integration of digital technologies, the adoption of inquiry-based and problem-based learning approaches, the implementation of experiential and contextual learning, and the use of multimedia and interactive learning tools in Islamic studies. The review also reveals a significant paradigm shift from traditional teacher-centered learning toward more flexible, student-centered, and technology-supported learning environments. However, several challenges remain, including limited technological infrastructure, low digital literacy among educators, and the need to maintain Islamic ethical values within digital learning environments. Furthermore, the study proposes a conceptual model of pedagogical innovation in Islamic education that integrates technological development, learner-centered pedagogy, and value-based Islamic education. This model emphasizes that successful innovation requires a balanced integration of modern educational practices with Islamic moral and spiritual values. The findings contribute to the development of innovative pedagogical frameworks for Islamic educational institutions and provide recommendations for policymakers, educators, and researchers seeking to improve the quality and relevance of Islamic education in the digital era.

Abstract

This study examines the imbalance between competitive and collaborative practices in early childhood education, which may foster individualistic attitudes among children. While competition is commonly used to enhance learning motivation, previous studies have largely examined competition and collaboration separately, with limited attention to their integration within a coherent value-based pedagogical framework. Therefore, this study aims to analyze the integration of the values of fastabiqul khairat (striving to do good deeds) and ta'awun (mutual assistance) as a pedagogical approach to balancing competition and collaboration in early childhood learning. This research employed a qualitative descriptive design conducted at an Islamic-based early childhood education institution in Bojonegoro, Indonesia. The participants consisted of 3 teachers and 20 children selected through purposive sampling, and data were collected over a period of two months. Data were gathered through classroom observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using thematic analysis with triangulation to ensure data validity. The findings reveal that implementing fastabiqul khairat promotes positive, prosocial competition, while ta'awun strengthens cooperation, empathy, and social awareness among children. This result indicates that value-based integration reshapes the competitive landscape. Transition from individual achievement to prosocial development. Furthermore, the study demonstrates that competition and collaboration can be complementary rather than opposing approaches in early childhood education. This study contributes to the development of Islamic early childhood education by proposing a novel value-based pedagogical framework that integrates Islamic principles into learning practices, particularly in the design of structured learning activities that combine prosocial competition and collaborative engagement

Abstract

Existing scholarship on Islamic educational leadership predominantly treats Islamic ethical foundations and psychological theories as discrete domains, leaving a critical gap in understanding how psychological competencies—emotional intelligence, motivation, and conflict management—can be systematically synthesized with Islamic values (amanah, shūrā, uswah hasanah) to produce coherent leadership praxis. This study addresses this gap by developing an integrative theoretical framework bridging Islamic ethical imperatives with psychological insights. Employing qualitative library research with systematic literature review, this study analyzed peer-reviewed articles, scholarly books, and policy documents published 2020–2026, selected through purposive sampling based on relevance to educational leadership, psychology, and Islamic education. Data were analyzed using qualitative content analysis with source triangulation. The findings reveal that Islamic educational leadership is grounded in Qur'anic ethical-spiritual principles; psychological perspectives significantly enhance leadership effectiveness through improved emotional engagement and organizational climate; and critically, the synthesis of Islamic values with psychological principles produces a holistic leadership model that transcends managerial approaches by embedding spiritual accountability within evidence-based behavioral strategies. This integrative model generates adaptive leadership practices capable of addressing digital transformation and institutional complexity while maintaining moral integrity. Theoretical implications: This study contributes a synthesized conceptual framework positioning Islamic educational leadership as simultaneously spiritually grounded and psychologically informed, challenging the binary treatment in existing literature. Practical implications: The framework provides actionable guidance for leadership training in madrasahs, pesantrens, and Islamic schools, emphasizing the development of emotional intelligence alongside ethical character formation.

Abstract

This study examines the practice of hybridization in Islamic education management through the integration of a collaborative-based curriculum in pesantren, as well as its implications for educational governance, the roles of key actors, and the development of students’ competencies. This research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study design conducted at Pondok Pesantren Salafiyah Asy-Syafi’iyyah Darul Qur’an. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model, including data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the hybridization of educational management contributes to the emergence of participatory collaborative governance, the development of an adaptive living curriculum, and the repositioning of teachers as knowledge brokers within a collaborative learning network. In addition, students demonstrate enhanced competencies that integrate religious understanding, collaborative skills, and contextual awareness. The study also identifies a dynamic interplay between traditional authority and open collaboration, which is continuously negotiated through adaptive processes. This research contributes to the development of hybridization as an integrative framework in Islamic education management that bridges tradition and innovation in a sustainable manner.

Abstract

The transformation of financing patterns in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) from external dependence toward internal self-reliance is a crucial issue for institutional sustainability. This study aims to analyze how productive asset management contributes to the economic independence of pesantren and to identify the success factors and challenges encountered in its implementation. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed at Darul Qur’an Islamic Boarding School in Kundur Utara, Riau Islands. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving institutional leaders, business managers, educators, and community members, followed by an interactive analysis model consisting of data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings reveal that the utilization of productive assets significantly increases independent income and reduces reliance on unstable external funding. Unexpectedly, this process triggers an organic shift toward more professional management practices while fostering student and community empowerment through collective economic participation. However, implementation faces structural constraints, such as limited capital and managerial capacity, alongside cultural resistance toward economic modernization. The implication of this research is that asset-based funding diversification serves as a strategic and sustainable model for enhancing financial autonomy without eroding the traditional religious identity of the pesantren. This study provides a vital reference for policymakers and practitioners to develop "management hybridization" models that integrate professional economic practices with institutional values to ensure long-term institutional resilience.
