Abstract

One hundred clinical samples of hair and scalp flakes were collected for children with tinea capitis aged from 1 year to 12 years from the dermatology consultant affiliated with Tikrit Teaching Hospital and outpatient clinics, with the aim of isolating the pathogenic fungi that cause tinea capitis and diagnosing them in children. Out of the total, 77 samples were found in the laboratory culture, while the findings of the direct microscopic examination indicated the presence of 55 samples. Several dermatophyte species from the genera Trichophyton and Microsporum were identified. T. mentagrophytes was the most prevalent with 18 isolates (23%), followed by T. violaceum and T. rubrum, each with 12 isolates (15%). Next, there were 10 isolates of the fungus T. schoenleinii (13%), compared to 4 isolates (10%) of each of the two species of fungus, T. tonsurans and T. verrucosum. While fungi belonging to the genus Microsporum were isolated at a rate of 10 isolates (13%) of the type M. canis, while 7 isolates of the M. gypsum type were isolated (9%). The incidence of tinea capitis among was greater in men than in women., as the number of infected males was 62 (62%), and females were 38 (38%) infected out of the total number. Regarding age groupings, 20% of children between the ages of one and four have head ringworm. The infection rate for children aged 5-8 was 32%, and the highest risk of infection was for those aged 9-12, who were at risk for 48%. It was also found that the rate of infection with the fungi that cause tinea capitis in the children from whom the samples were taken was high among patients coming from rural areas, at 80%, compared to patients coming from urban areas, at 20%.

Abstract

Stearic acid is one of the most common fatty acids. It is a glycerol ester found in most lipids from plants and animals. Being an emollient, stearic acid acts by smoothing and softening the skin. It has been consistently shown that, in comparison to other saturated fats, stearic acid either has no effect on low blood cholesterol or has a neutral effect. A diet high in stearic acid was found to reduce fasting levels of coagulation factor VII that causes blood clotting. There doesn't seem to be any connection between stearic acid and a higher incidence of heart attacks or ischemic heart disease. Stearic acid preferentially stimulates apoptosis, or programmed cell death, in malignant vs non-cancerous breast cancer cells and suppresses important cell cycle checkpoints, preventing breast cancer cells from proliferating. In neurodegenerative illnesses such as Parkinson's disease, stearic acid might be protective.

Abstract

Background: Polyamide denture base materials have gained prominence in dentistry due to their superior attributes compared to traditional acrylic materials. However, the susceptibility of polyamide dentures to fractures necessitates exploration of repair, replacement, and reinforcement methods. Effective denture rehabilitation requires enhancing tensile and transverse strength. Methods: This study utilized 160 acrylic resin samples. The control group included 40 specimens with and without fusing material integration, representing fractured and intact scenarios. The remaining 120 specimens underwent meticulous repair through three approaches: Reinjection nylon repair (RiNR), Recycling Manual heating (spruing) repair (RcNHR), and Manual heating nylon (NHR) repair, each with American and Russian fusing materials. Rigorous tensile and transverse strength evaluations were performed. Results: Techniques augmenting tensile and transverse strength (RcNHR, NHR, RiNR) were significantly effective compared to untreated fractures (C2) for both fusing materials. The control group (C1) consistently exhibited higher strength than C2. RiNR exhibited paramount strength, with American-treated RcNHR showing lower tensile strength, and Russian-treated NHR showing reduced transverse strength. Russian and American treatments showed no significant differences in RcNHR and RiNR, but differences emerged in NHR. Conclusion: Implementing flexible materials enhances polyamide denture strength. Reintegration through reinjection and manual heating with sprue-material yielded positive outcomes. RiNR achieved the highest strength. Russian and American treatments showed no notable differences in RcNHR and RiNR, with variations seen in NHR. This study suggests potential for refining mechanical properties and methodologies, advancing denture restoration practices.

Abstract

Irritable bowel illness is a widespread health ailment that affects almost every age group around the world. The pathogenesis of IBS is still poorly understood. It is a prevalent dysfunctional bowel condition marked by recurring stomach pain or discomfort and changed bowel habits. A central concept is that IBS symptoms are caused by a bilateral imbalance of brain-gut connections, which appears as increased gut sensation and changed bowel patterns. The purpose of the review is to determine the role of vitamin D levels in people with irritable bowel syndrome patients. Vitamin D, which plays a role in inflammatory processes, can affect a variety of pathways implicated in the appearance of IBS. Vitamin D insufficiency was shown to be greater in the IBS group, indicating a relationship between vitamins.
