Abstract

This study reveals the role of Balian in preserving traditional medicine as well as balancing the culture and mental health of the people on the Island of the Gods. This research was designed using a qualitative approach (medical ethnography). Informants were Hindu priests (Pemangku), local health workers and traditional medical experts (Balian). The research location was conducted in Balinese historical places that are believed to be qualified as a place to conduct traditional healing practices by a Balian, such as Pura (Pure), Holy Purifier (Tirta) and Beaches in Bali. The results show that the sickness and health of the Balinese ethnic soul refers to the concept of balancing the system elements in the body with cultural influences in the environment. Ethnic Balinese believe in the concept of Tri Hita Karana, which is the balance between Sang Hyang Widhi (God), Buana Agung (Universe) and Buana Alit (Human). If a person's physical or spiritual condition experiences an imbalance of these three things, then health is disturbed. In looking at the etiology of mental illness, they more than fully consider the abstract (non-physical) type of illness. The implication is that they seek Balian treatment as a primary option.

Abstract

Bandung Regency, located in West Java, has significant tourist potential, thanks to the beauty of the mountains and plantations that produce a variety of local commodities as well as traditional food and beverages. Although tourism in Bandung regency is quite developed, the Regional Government noted that there are some problems in the development of tourism, among them are low tourism contribution to the PDRB and the lack of superior tourist destinations in some areas. One of the tourist potential that can be used as an outstanding tourist in Bandung regency is a gastronomic tour. Turgarini (2018) stated that gastronomic tourism has the potential to generate additional income in the region by highlighting its typical food as a magnet for tourists. At present, however, the management of traditional food and gastronomic tourism patterns in the region are not well structured because the government is more focused on the development of natural and cultural tourism. The research is aimed at identifying potential attractions, mapping, as well as designing travel patterns and gastronomic tour packages in Bandung Regency. The method used is qualitative descriptive with data collection techniques such as interviews, observations, literature studies, and documentation, as well as determination of participants using snowball sampling techniques and purposive samplings. This research found various tourist attractions such as Kalua Jeruk, Rudjak Ciherang, and Borondong that can be developed into a gastronomic tour by producing two kinds of tourist packages in Bandung Regency. It is expected that the maps and gastronomic tour packages generated can help stakeholders in managing and developing these packages to attract local, national, and international tourists.

Abstract

The future of tourism destinations focuses on local communities' creativity in developing their tourist attractions, one of which is through MSMEs (Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises). When an attraction goes viral, booming, or popular suddenly, it is followed by other destinations who imitate products without bringing out the uniqueness of the destination. On the other side, local communities want to explore new things, but on the other side, there is a fear that no tourists will be interested in visiting or purchasing products from MSMEs. This dialectical condition is the focus of the research. This research explores the various signs and meanings of tourism resources in Alamendah Tourism Village, which are realized through the creativity of MSMEs in designing fashion products. The results of this research are useful for generating product innovations that represent the village. Data were collected through field observations using a checklist, followed by data on tourism resources from the views of managers, communities, and MSME actors using in-depth interviews and integrated discussions. The results show that the resources of Alamendah Tourism Village focuses on cultural life, landscape, and coolness that symbolizes harmony and peace. The symbol was transformed into a fashion product design in the form of an outer, tote bag, and shoes with an eco print design patterned with strawberry leaves, coloured in a combination of brown, red, and green with ornaments and clump stitching techniques, the meaning are harmony and peace. This product can be applied to MSMEs actors as a creative innovation that can attract tourists to visit. This innovation is seen to be the main capital in the development of sustainable tourism that is not affected by temporary viral trend. Abstract

This study investigates the significant impacts of various crises on the tourism industry in Bali, focusing on natural disasters, civil unrest, and terrorism. As a globally renowned destination, Bali's tourism sector is crucial to its economy, yet it faces substantial challenges that threaten its sustainability and cultural integrity. Through a systematic narrative review and bibliometric analysis, this research synthesizes existing literature to identify key crises that have historically influenced tourist arrivals and perceptions. Notably, events such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, and political instability have led to dramatic declines in visitor numbers and have instilled lasting psychological effects on potential travelers. For instance, the 2018 Lombok earthquake resulted in a 30% drop in tourist arrivals, highlighting the vulnerability of the tourism infrastructure. The findings underscore the urgent need for Bali to diversify its economic base, adopt sustainable tourism practices, and develop comprehensive crisis management strategies to enhance resilience against future disruptions. Additionally, the study reveals that while economic challenges are pronounced, cultural resilience has emerged, with local traditions adapting to maintain engagement through virtual platforms during crises. Recommendations for future research include exploring the evolving dynamics of tourism in Bali in the context of global challenges such as climate change and shifting tourist behaviors. By addressing these issues holistically, Bali can better safeguard its natural and cultural resources while continuing to thrive as a premier tourist destination. Keywords: Bali, tourism, natural disasters, civil unrest, crisis management, sustainability.

Abstract

This study analyzes the impact of digital promotion development on tourist visitation rates in Pandanrejo Tourism Village, Purworejo Regency, by linking upstream indicators (digital activities and findings) to downstream indicators (verified visits). The empirical background shows a “surge–plateau–correction” pattern in visitation data: the annual total rose drastically from 1,661 (2020) to 8,067 (2021), remained relatively stable at 8,094 (2022), and then corrected to 4,672 (2023); monthly dynamics were prominent in March 2023 (1,766) and November 2023 (716), indicating a dependence on moments/events as the main driver. Conceptually, the study positions digital promotion (social media, SEO/local search, online reviews, UGC, and OTA channels) as a stimulus that works through the mediators of destination image, trust, and visit intention before it manifests into visits. . The proposed methodology is a mixed-methods explanatory sequential: (i) quantitative quasi-experimental through Interrupted Time Series (ITS) and multi-period Difference-in-Differences (DiD) (with similar comparison villages), as well as transfer function/ARIMAX to include digital indicators as leading indicators; (ii) PLS-SEM survey to test the image–trust–intention→visit mechanism path.  Descriptive results indicate that the 2021–2022 increase is in line with the possible activation of digital promotions, while the 2023 correction suggests a weakening of upstream drivers and/or the influence of external factors (access, weather, event calendar). Practical implications include orchestrating a content calendar 6–8 weeks before the “anchor moment” (e.g., March/November), strengthening Google Business Profile (photos, FAQs, booking links), activating curated UGC, and measurement by design with upstream–downstream KPIs (reach/engagement/CTR/sentiment → tickets/parking, activity participation, homestay occupancy) and cost per visit. The study’s contribution lies in operationalizing a causal measurement framework in the context of tourism villages, which has been underrepresented.  Key limitations, the lack of integration of digital-to-visit data and the absence of verified comparators are set as further agendas to ensure causal attribution, assess heterogeneity of impact across segments, and optimize promotional cost efficiency.
