Abstract

This research examines how the use of social media platforms, especially TikTok and Twitter, can influence Generation Z's interest in history. Generation Z, accustomed to digital technology, is often less interested in historical subjects that are considered irrelevant. However, by adapting existing content formats on TikTok and Twitter that are more dynamic and easily accessible to Gen-Z, history can be presented in a more interesting way. TikTok, with its short videos, provides an opportunity to present historical facts visually and creatively, while Twitter allows the exchange of ideas and discussions based on trending historical topics. This research method uses a qualitative approach with content analysis from various accounts that discuss the history of the two platforms. The findings of this research show that with a more relaxed and interactive approach, Generation Z's interest in history can increase, especially if the content presented is able to connect historical events with contemporary issues that are relevant to them. Therefore, TikTok and Twitter not only have the potential to convey historical information, but also to create more interesting learning, and are appropriate to the digital lifestyle of Generation Z

Abstract

This study examines the historical development of pok-pok, a traditional sea transportation, and its important role in shaping the social and economic life of the seafaring community in Boiyauw Village, Banda District, Central Maluku. Pok-pok has long been the main link between islands in the Banda Islands, helping daily activities while supporting the livelihoods of coastal communities. This study uses a historical method with a qualitative descriptive approach, collecting data through in-depth interviews, direct observations in the field, documentation and related literature reviews. Data are analyzed based on key themes to understand the historical, social, and economic roles of pok-pok in the region. The results of the study show that pok-pok is not just an ordinary means of transportation. Pok-pok plays an important role in maintaining the sustainability of the local economy, facilitating the mobility of workers, and strengthening social relations between communities on the surrounding islands. The use of pok-pok, which is still ongoing until now, proves the ability of local communities to survive and adapt to geographical challenges and the dynamics of economic change in the island environment.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the practice of nutmeg (Myristica fragrans) cultivation in the Banda Islands and identify the integration of Islamic values in these activities as part of local cultural heritage. This study is based on the importance of preserving agricultural traditions that are rich in religious and social values amidst the pressures of modernization and globalization. A qualitative approach with ethnographic methods was used to gain an in-depth understanding through participatory observation, in-depth interviews, and document studies involving farmers, traditional leaders, and religious leaders in Banda District, Central Maluku Regency. The results of the study indicate that the tradition of nutmeg cultivation in Banda not only functions as an economic activity but also becomes a manifestation of the practice of Islamic values such as tawakkul (surrender to Allah), patience, gratitude cooperation, and responsibility. These agricultural practices are passed down from generation to generation and integrated with local wisdom such as pela and gandong, which are in line with Islamic principles of ukhuwah (brotherhood) and tasamuh (tolerance).

Abstract

This study examines the history, existence, and preservation of the cultural identity of the Lampung people in Cikoneng Village, Banten, as a Lampung village in Sundanese Tatar. The arrival of the Lampung people to Banten was influenced by the pepper trade, the spread of Islam, and the involvement of the Lampung military in the expansion of the Banten region. In its development, Lampung culture in Cikoneng has shifted due to acculturation with Sundanese and Javanese culture of Banten. The village burning incident by DI/TII in 1958 also destroyed Lampung's traditional houses, leaving the Lampung language as the main cultural identity that still survives. Other cultural symbols that still exist are the Darul Falah Mosque and the Tomb of Minak Sengaji. This study uses historical methods by combining written sources and oral traditions through interviews. The results of the analysis show that the preservation of Lampung's culture faces challenges due to cultural openness and a lack of collective efforts. Despite the mixing of dialects and adaptations of other cultures, the Cikoneng people still maintain the Lampung language is a form of their pride and ethnic identity.

Abstract

This study aims to trace the historical roots of cultural openness in the Banda community, describe its concrete manifestations in social life, customs, architecture, and culinary practices, and analyze its continuity in the era of globalization. The research employs a descriptive qualitative approach with ethnographic-historical methods, involving literature review, participatory observation, and in-depth interviews with traditional leaders and community members. The findings reveal that the cultural openness of the Banda people was shaped through trade networks, intermarriage, religious missions, and colonialism, resulting in an inclusive cultural heritage. This openness is reflected in social tolerance, the integration of religious values into customary practices, the fusion of local and colonial architecture, and cuisine influenced by various nations. Amid the currents of globalization, despite facing the challenges of cultural homogenization, the Banda community continues to uphold the values of openness through social practices, traditions, and local cultural preservation. This study affirms that Banda’s cultural openness is not a passive attitude toward external influences, but rather a selective and reflective process that constitutes an essential identity for Indonesia’s multicultural society.

Abstract

This study characterized the Cirebon Mask Dance as a sophisticated system of embodied philosophy, rather than merely a performance art. Employing an integrated hermeneutic-phenomenological approach, the research analyzed the dance's sequential progression through the five mask archetypes: Panji, Samba, Rumyang, Tumenggung, and Kelana, as a choreographed metaphysical argument. A tripartite analysis of movement semiotics, symbolic hermeneutics, and philosophical contextualization revealed that the dance articulated the Javanese cosmological principle of sangkan paraning dumadi (the origin and destination of being). The findings demonstrated that each mask embodied a distinct stage in human spiritual development, commencing with the undifferentiated purity of Panji, progressing through worldly exploration (Samba), symbolic mediation (Rumyang), and structured responsibility (Tumenggung), culminating in the transformative crisis of Kelana. Collectively, this sequence mapped a philosophical journey in which physical practice was transformed into coherent metaphysical discourse. This study contributed to the field of performance philosophy by providing a methodological framework, while simultaneously validating the Cirebon Mask Dance as a vital and enduring intellectual heritage

Abstract

This article elaborates on the strengthening of Buton cultural values through the Pisombo customary tradition in Kampung Kayu Merah, Fakfak, West Papua. The study aims to uncover and explain the forms of reinforcement of Buton cultural values inherited through the implementation of the Pisombo tradition, as well as to analyze this ritual in strengthening the identity and social cohesion of the Buton community in Fakfak. The research employs an ethnographic method with data collection techniques including observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and Focus Group Discussions involving customary masters, community leaders, and the girls who are the main participants in the ritual process. A literature study was also conducted to trace various written sources related to the practice of Pisombo within the cultural heritage of Buton. The collected data were analyzed and interpreted to uncover the meanings and values contained in the tradition and then presented in the form of an ethnographic narrative. The results indicate that Pisombo is a rite of passage marking the transition of adolescent girls to adulthood, signified by their first menstruation. Pisombo functions as a space for cultural education, a mechanism of social control, and a means of transmitting values such as courtesy, personal purity, family responsibility, and community solidarity. Within the life of the Buton community in Fakfak, this tradition serves as an internal mechanism that maintains social cohesion and ensures the sustainable regeneration of Buton cultural values. These findings confirm that the Pisombo customary tradition remains relevant as a strategy for strengthening the identity and cultural resilience of the Buton community in the multiethnic city of Fakfak, which is open and highly respects cultural and religious diversity, in accordance with the life philosophy of “One Stove, Three Stones.”

Abstract

The Abbasid Dynasty (750–1258 AD) marked the peak of Islamic civilization, characterized by extraordinary progress in science, philosophy, and culture. This study aims to describe the intellectual legacy of Muslim scholars during this golden era and analyze the factors that supported the advancement of knowledge, including political patronage, scientific institutions, and crosscultural collaboration. Using a historical-descriptive approach through literature review, this research explores the role of institutions such as Bayt al-Hikmah (House of Wisdom) as centers for translation, research, and innovation. The study finds that the combination of government support, inclusive social structure, and an open intellectual environment contributed to the flourishing of scientific disciplines such as mathematics, medicine, astronomy, chemistry, and philosophy. Prominent figures like Al-Khwarizmi, Ibn Sina, Jabir ibn Hayyan, and Al-Farabi not only preserved classical knowledge but also developed new ideas that influenced both the Islamic and Western worlds. The Abbasid intellectual heritage became the foundation for the Renaissance and the development of modern science.

Abstract

This study analyzes the role of railway development in shaping regional integration and socio-economic transformation in West Java between 1880 and 1930. Employing a historical method with a qualitative, library-based approach, the research examines primary and secondary documents related to colonial transportation policies. The findings demonstrate that the transition from the Preanger Stelsel—a forced coffee cultivation system dependent on traditional transport networks—to modern railway infrastructure fundamentally altered patterns of mobility and economic exchange. The Dutch colonial administration introduced railway lines, maritime routes, and road systems to address logistical constraints caused by the long distance between inland plantations and coastal ports. The establishment of railways not only facilitated the efficient movementof plantation commodities and strengthened export capacity but also reconfigured spatial connectivity, enabling broader social mobility among local populations. The study argues that railway expansion served as a strategic instrument of colonial economic consolidation while simultaneously laying the groundwork for long-term regional integration in West Java.
