Abstract

Abstract

Meniran root (Phylanthus niruri L.) and tamarind (Tamarindus indica L.) have flavonoid compounds that function to repair pancreatic tissue damage caused by DNA alkyl groups from alloxan induction. This study aims to determine the activity of a combination of meniran root extract (Phylanthus niruri L.) and tamarind leaves (Tamarindus indica L.) on blood glucose levels of male rats (Rattus norvegicus) induced by alloxan. This study was carried out experimentally. White rats up to 15 heads were divided into 5 groups. Alloxan induction at a dose of 125 mg/kgBB intraperitoneally to cause pancreatic damage was performed in 5 treatment groups. Three treatment groups were treated with different doses of a combination of meniran and tamarind root extracts, (P1) 7.5 mg/KgBB, (P2) 10 mg/KgBB and (P3) 15 mg/KgBB, one group as negative control (K-) was given 1% Na CMC and positive control (K+) was given 5 mg glibenclamide. The combination of meniran root extract (Phylanthus niruri L.) and tamarind leaf (Tamarindus indica L.) was given for 1 day. Glucose levels were checked after 2 hours, 4 hours, 6 hours and 24 hours of administration. The results showed that the three concentrations of a combination of meniran root extract (Phylanthus niruri L.) and tamarind leaf (Tamarindus indica L.) can reduce the blood glucose levels of male rats (Rattus norvegicus) induced by alloxan.

Abstract

Papaya leaves (Carica papaya L.) are ornamental plants that are very useful because they contain alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins and terpenoids. The alkaloids here have antibacterial properties. Honey is usually used as an antibacterial. Apart from being an antibacterial, honey is also an antioxidant because honey contains vitamin C. Acne (Acne vulgaris) is a skin disease caused by chronic inflammation with a complex pathogenesis, involving the sebaceous glands caused by the bacteria Propiobacerium acne. This research aims to determine whether the anti-acne mask formulation of papaya leaf extract and honey is physically and chemically stable and that the anti-acne mask formulation of papaya leaf extract and honey has anti-acne activity against Propionibacterium acne. This research is an experimental laboratory using the diffusion technique so that the well method is used to determine the diameter of the inhibition zone and for data analysis using the one-way ANOVA test. The results of research on the formulation of an anti-acne mask from papaya leaf extract and honey are physically and chemically stable. The anti-acne mask formulation of papaya leaf and honey extract has antibacterial activity against Propionibacterium acne with an inhibition zone of 17.2 mm (strong) in formulation 1, 19.6 mm (strong) in formulation 2, 19.8 (strong) in formulation 3 and 21.9 mm (very strong) on the positive cotrol, namely benzolac (Benzolic peroxide).

Abstract

Lip tint is a cosmetic preparation used to color lips which has liquid texture with a more natural color so that it is easily absorbed and produces a natural color like the lips’ original color. This research aimed to determine whether kepok banana flower peel extract (Musa paradisiaca Linn.) and dragon fruit (Hylocereus polyrhizus) can be formulated in the from of lip tint preparations as natural dyes and to test the antioxidant activity of lip tint preparations. The research method was experimental research by making lip tint formulations with concentrations of FI (2%), FII (6%), and FIII (10%) from banana peel and dragon fruit extracts, evaluating the preparations using physicochemical methods and testing antioxidant activity using the method DPPH using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The results showed that the total anthocyanin content in the peel of the kepok banana flower was 0,374 mg/L and in dragon fruit it was 8,232 mg/L. Lip tint preparation formulas with concentrations of 2%, 6% and 10% are physically and chemically stable and the antioxidant activity test in Formula I (2%) obtained an IC50 value of 3,52 µg/mL, Formula II (6%) obtained an IC50 value of 3,91 µg/mL, Formula III (10%) obtained an IC50 value of 1,62 µg/mL and in the positive control comparison (Lip Tint Implora®) an IC50 value of 1,98 µg/mL was obtained. The formula with a concentration of 10% has an IC50 value of 1,62 µg/mL in the very strong category.

Abstract

Excessive sun exposure can have a negative impack on the skin. One way that can be done to reduce this impact is to use sunscreen. This research aimed to determine whether the ethanol of red shoot leaves (Syzygium oleana) can be formulated into a gel preparation that is physically and chemically stable and to determine sunscreen activity based on the SPF value using the UV-VIS spectrophotometric method. The method in this research was laboratory experimental. Red shoot leaves were extracted by using the maceration method with a preparation formula designe in three concentration, namely Formula 1 (1%), Formula 2 (3%),and  Formula 3 (5%). Then a stability test was carried out by storing at temperatures of 40C and 400C. Evaluation of preparation qualityincludes organoleptic, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, and spreadability test. An SPF value test was also carried out. The research results that have been carried out show that the ethanol extract of red shoot leaves with concentration of 1% 3% and 5% formulated in gel form produces a stable preparation and meets the quality requirements of the preparation. The SPF value from formula 1 is 2,508349 (minimal protection), formula 2 3,380475 (minimal protection) and formula 3 2,679704 (minimal protection).
