Abstract

Hypertension is one of the major risk factors for cardiovascular disease and remains a global health problem. Smoking is known to increase blood pressure through mechanisms of vasoconstriction and endothelial damage. Police officers, who are exposed to high physical and mental work stress, are at risk of developing hypertension, particularly if they engage in smoking behavior. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between smoking behavior and the incidence of hypertension among police officers at the Bali Regional Police (Polda Bali). A quantitative cross-sectional design was employed, involving 90 police officers selected through stratified random sampling. Data on smoking behavior were collected using a questionnaire based on Smet’s theory (1994), while blood pressure was measured using a digital sphygmomanometer. Data were analyzed descriptively and inferentially using the Chi-Square test. The results showed that 51.1% of respondents had hypertension. Based on smoking categories, 32.2% were moderate smokers, 25.6% light smokers, 12.2% heavy smokers, and 30.0% non-smokers. The Chi-Square test indicated a significant association between smoking behavior and hypertension (p<0.001), with 91.0% of heavy smokers experiencing hypertension compared to only 11.1% among non-smokers. In conclusion, smoking behavior is significantly associated with the incidence of hypertension among police officers in Polda Bali. Health education and smoking cessation programs are essential interventions to reduce the risk of hypertension in this group.

Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by impaired glucose regulation, which, if poorly managed, can lead to serious complications such as gangrenous foot ulcers. These ulcers can reduce patients' quality of life, increase the risk of amputation, and prolong hospitalization. The wound healing process in patients with type 2 diabetes is influenced by various interrelated factors. This study aims to identify and analyze the factors that influence the healing process of gangrenous foot ulcers in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This study used a systematic literature review method based on the PRISMA guidelines. Articles were retrieved from databases such as PubMed, Cochrane, and Scopus using relevant keywords. Eight articles that met the inclusion criteria were analyzed based on study design, population, and topic relevance. The study found five main factors affecting wound healing in gangrenous diabetic foot ulcers: age, gender, wound stage, blood glucose control, and duration of wound care. These factors are interconnected and significantly impact the speed and success of wound healing. A comprehensive understanding of these factors is essential for healthcare providers in designing appropriate interventions and improving the effectiveness of wound care in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

A healthy diet plays an important role in supporting children’s optimal growth and development. Parents play a crucial role in shaping their children’s eating habits, which is closely related to their level of health literacy. In addition, children’s self-efficacy also influences their ability to independently choose healthy foods. The aim of this study was to analyze the relationship between parents’ health literacy and elementary school children’s self-efficacy in choosing healthy foods. This study employed a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design, involving 50 parents and fifth-grade students at SDN 01 Pasar Manggis, South Jakarta. Parents’ health literacy was measured using the HLS-EU-Q16 questionnaire, which was adapted to focus on aspects related to children’s healthy eating patterns. Data were analyzed using the Spearman test. The results showed that the majority of parents (70%) had high health literacy, while most children (74%) had moderate self-efficacy. The Spearman test results indicated no significant relationship between parents’ health literacy regarding healthy eating and children’s self-efficacy in choosing healthy foods (p < 0.05). Therefore, additional approaches are needed, involving schools, the social environment, and active family engagement in shaping healthy eating behaviors among children.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that often leads to complications in the form of diabetic wounds, which are difficult to heal. One of the widely studied nonpharmacological approaches is the use of Aloe vera, which is known to have anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, and tissue-regenerating properties. This study aims to review the effectiveness of Aloe vera in diabetic wound healing based on recent literature. The method used was a literature review by searching articles in PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Google Scholar databases. Inclusion criteria were studies published between 2019 and 2025 with clinical trial, quasi-experimental, or case study designs involving patients with diabetic wounds and using Aloe vera as the main intervention. Data were analyzed using a narrative synthesis by comparing findings across studies. A review of eight articles showed that Aloe vera promoted granulation tissue formation, accelerated epithelialization, and reduced wound exudate. Several studies demonstrated significant improvements compared to control groups, while others emphasized that effectiveness depended on treatment duration, wound condition, and additional techniques such as debridement. Innovations identified included combining Aloe vera with other natural agents and the development of dressings based on Aloe vera extract to enhance healing outcomes. In conclusion, Aloe vera has the potential to serve as a safe, affordable, and supportive complementary therapy for diabetic wound management, particularly when applied in synergy with standard care.

Abstract

Hypertension is a health problem with a high prevalence in the elderly and is at risk of causing serious complications. The management is not only pharmacological, but also non-pharmacological, one of which is the Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique (SEFT), which is a mind-body therapy-based complementary therapy that combines acupressure point stimulation with prayer for relaxation, stress reduction, and stabilization of blood pressure. This study uses the literature review method by searching articles through Google Scholar, Garuda, Science Direct, and Semantic Scholar databases, with a publication range of 2019-2025. Of the 505 articles found, 8 met the inclusion criteria for analysis. The study showed that the application of SEFT therapy was proven to be effective in lowering systolic and diastolic blood pressure in hypertensive elderly people. This effect is obtained through a reduction in emotional stress, increased calmness, as well as the stimulation of endorphins hormones that help relax blood vessels. SEFT therapy has been shown to be effective as a nonpharmacological intervention in helping to lower blood pressure in elderly people with hypertension. This therapy can be used as a supportive alternative to pharmacological therapy, and has the potential to improve the quality of life of the elderly.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus, commonly known as diabetes, is a metabolic disorder caused by the pancreas not producing enough insulin or the body being unable to use the insulin produced effectively, leading to hyperglycemia beyond normal limits. Various complications can arise from diabetes mellitus, one of which is diabetic ulcers. One therapy for treating diabetic ulcers is honey, which has been proven to have many benefits, including anti- inflammatory and antibacterial properties, as well as accelerating the granulation and epithelialization processes. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of honey in treating diabetic ulcers through a journal review. The research method used was a literature review, with journal searches conducted in the PubMed, Research Gate, and Google Scholar databases. Inclusion criteria were studies published between 2015 and 2025, in either Indonesian or English. Data were analyzed using a narrative synthesis approach, comparing results across studies. A review of 10 articles showed that honey contains antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, acts as a moisturizer at the wound base, has an osmotic effect, reduces edema in wound cells, accelerates angiogenesis and granulation in wounds, accelerates collagenase and epithelialization in wounds, enhances lymphocyte and phagocyte activity, and accelerates debridement of necrotic tissue. Some studies compared the use of dry dressings with the use of honey. Additionally, research indicated factors influencing healing time, such as wound condition, treatment duration, and respondent age. Honey contains numerous beneficial compounds proven effective in accelerating the healing of diabetic ulcers
