Abstract

Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease characterized by hyperglycemia due to metabolic disorders related to insulin resistance and decreased pancreatic ?-cell secretion function. The high prevalence of DM, which continues to increase every year, indicates the need for comprehensive treatment to prevent complications. One non-pharmacological approach that can be used to help control blood glucose levels is autogenic relaxation therapy. This study used a case study design with a qualitative descriptive approach to explore in depth the phenomenon of changes in blood glucose levels in a patient with Type 2 DM. The research subject was one patient residing in Cokro Hamlet, Sukoanyar Village, with inclusion criteria including Type 2 DM patients, GDS >200, not consuming DM drugs or certain drugs, able to communicate, and willing to be a respondent. Primary data were obtained through interviews, observation of physical and psychological conditions, and blood glucose tests using a glucometer. Secondary data were obtained through patient health documentation, daily treatment records, and family statements. The research process was conducted in three stages, namely orientation, the working phase with the implementation of autogenic relaxation therapy in several sessions, and termination through subjective and objective evaluations. The results showed a decrease in blood glucose levels from 345 mg/dL to 216 mg/dL (a difference of 129 mg/dL) after the intervention, accompanied by improvements in physical and emotional complaints in the form of improved sleep quality, reduced fatigue, and decreased anxiety. These findings indicate that autogenic relaxation therapy can be an effective non-pharmacological intervention in helping to control blood glucose levels in patients with Type 2 DM.

Abstract

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a progressive and irreversible illness that requires patients to undergo lifelong hemodialysis therapy. This condition not only affects physical health but also triggers various psychological problems, including anxiety, stress, depression, and loss of self-worth. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of spiritual interventions in improving the mental health of hemodialysis patients. The research employed a case study design involving a 36-year-old male patient receiving routine hemodialysis at Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang Hospital. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation, and analyzed qualitatively using a descriptive approach. The spiritual intervention was implemented over seven days and included building a trusting relationship, practicing gratitude, identifying personal strengths, spiritual affirmation, self-reflection, and routine prayer based on the patient’s beliefs. Results indicated significant improvements in the patient’s emotional, spiritual, and behavioral responses. The patient became more relaxed, accepted his condition, displayed positive expressions, and showed improved sleep patterns. Spiritual intervention was found effective in reducing anxiety, enhancing self-worth, and restoring the patient’s sense of meaning in life. In conclusion, spiritual intervention is an effective strategy that should be integrated into holistic nursing care to support the mental well-being of hemodialysis patients.

Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is one of the most common chronic metabolic diseases found in the community and can lead to microvascular complications such as peripheral circulation disorders. This study aimed to describe nursing care for patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus through the application of Resistance exercise as a non-pharmacological intervention to improve peripheral circulation. This study used a case study design with a descriptive approach. The research was conducted from May to June 2025 in the working area of Putri Ayu Public Health Center, Jambi City. The intervention was given to two patients who experienced sensory symptoms such as tingling and foot pain, along with an Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) value of less than 1. Resistance exercises were performed for three consecutive days using a theraband, with five movements in each session. Each session lasted approximately 10–15 minutes per day. Evaluation results showed improvements in peripheral circulation, indicated by increased ABI values and a reduction in sensory complaints. Resistance exercise can be used as one of the nursing care approaches to help prevent peripheral complications in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease that requires a comprehensive understanding from patients to prevent complications. However, conventional health education often proves to be less effective in increasing patient knowledge. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using animated videos as an educational medium to improve the basic knowledge of diabetes mellitus patients at the Sawah Besar Community Health Center. The research employed a true experimental design with a post-test only control group approach involving 116 respondents divided into two groups: intervention and non-intervention. The instrument used was the DKQ-24 questionnaire, with data analysis using the Mann-Whitney test. The results showed that the majority of respondents in the intervention group (72.4%) had good knowledge, while in the non-intervention group, most (91.4%) fell into the low knowledge category. The statistical test revealed a significant difference between the two groups (p = 0.000). In conclusion, animated videos are effectively used as an educational medium to enhance the basic knowledge of patients with diabetes mellitus because they can convey information in an engaging, easily understandable manner, and reach various backgrounds of respondents.

Abstract

Diabetes mellitus is a chronic disease commonly found in the community and is often referred to as a “silent killer” because it frequently shows no symptoms in its early stages. Nevertheless, diabetes can lead to various serious complications, including eye disorders such as cataracts. Cataracts are a common ocular complication in individuals with diabetes and can potentially lead to permanent blindness if not treated promptly.Efforts to prevent complications from diabetes largely depend on the patient’s understanding of how to manage the disease. This includes controlling blood sugar levels, blood pressure, cholesterol, adopting a healthy lifestyle, adherence to medication, and undergoing regular eye examinations. A good level of knowledge helps shape a positive mindset, which in turn influences preventive behavior, including the prevention of cataracts. In other words, the higher a person’s knowledge about their disease, the better their preventive behavior tends to be.This study aims to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge among diabetes mellitus patients and their behavior in preventing cataracts at Hospital X, Jakarta. The study employs a quantitative approach with a cross-sectional design and involves 105 respondents who were selected through the distribution of questionnaires. Data analysis was conducted using the Spearman test and showed a significance value of 0.345 (p < 0.01). This result indicates a relationship between the level of knowledge and cataract prevention behavior, although with a weak correlation. These findings suggest that increasing patients’ knowledge still plays a role in shaping better preventive behavior

Abstract

Lower extremity fractures are a significant musculoskeletal problem with a steadily increasing incidence globally and nationally. The standard treatment for fractures is ORIF. ORIF procedures cause postoperative pain, which is greatly influenced by psychological factors such as anxiety levels and the patient's coping mechanisms. Poorly managed post-ORIF pain can negatively impact physiological responses, emotional status, and slow down the patient's healing process. While pharmacological pain management remains a priority, there is still a need to integrate more optimal non-pharmacological interventions to address anxiety and pain at Prof. Dr. R. Soeharso Orthopedic Hospital in Surakarta, making an understanding of the relationships between these variables essential. This is a quantitative study with a descriptive correlational design and a cross-sectional approach. The study population includes all patients who have undergone lower extremity ORIF, with a sample of 35 respondents selected using purposive sampling techniques that meet the inclusion criteria. Data collection was conducted using standardized questionnaire instruments: the Jalowiec Coping Scale (JCS) to measure coping mechanisms, the Hamilton Anxiety Rating Scale (HARS) to assess anxiety levels, and the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) to measure pain intensity. Data analysis utilized the Spearman Rank correlation test to test the hypothesis. The results of bivariate statistical analysis showed a significant relationship between coping mechanisms and pain intensity (p-value 0.002, r= -0.509) and between anxiety levels and pain intensity (p-value 0.000, r= 0.797) in patients who had undergone lower extremity ORIF. Conclusion: There is a relationship between coping mechanisms and anxiety levels with pain intensity in patients who have undergone lower extremity ORIF at Prof. Dr. R. Soeharso Orthopedic Hospital in Surakarta.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has led to an increase in gadget use among children, including elementary school students. Excessive gadget use poses a risk of disrupting children’s sleep quality, both during the day and at night. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between gadget use duration and children’s sleep quality during day and night at SD Muhammadiyah 1 Banjarmasin. This research employed a quantitative approach with an analytical observational design and a cross-sectional study. The sample consisted of 47 students from grades IV–VI, selected using the total sampling technique. The instruments used were the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) questionnaire to measure gadget use duration and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) to assess sleep quality. Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank test. The results showed a significant relationship between gadget use duration and children’s sleep quality (p = 0.001; r = 0.479). The longer children use gadgets, the poorer their sleep quality tends to be. Parental supervision of children’s gadget use duration is necessary to prevent negative impacts on sleep quality. Education on healthy gadget use is also essential to be implemented in both family and school environments.

Abstract

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) is a chronic autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in the body, particularly in the joints. According to data from the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors Study in 2020, approximately 17.6 million people worldwide live with RA. In the service area of Sawah Besar General Hospital, there were 21 cases of RA in 2025. This is attributed to factors such as genetics, hormones, neuroendocrine conditions, and comorbidities that can trigger RA. Preliminary studies indicate that most patients continue to engage in heavy physical activities, which may contribute to RA flare-ups. This study aims to investigate the relationship between physical activity levels and RA flare-ups at RSUD Sawah Besar in Central Jakarta in 2025. This study used a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design, and the sample consisted of 21 respondents selected through non-probability sampling using the total sampling method. The research instruments used were questionnaires on physical activity levels (GPAQ) and RA relapses. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate methods with the Spearman rho test. The results of this study indicate that the majority of respondents had a high level of physical activity (76.19%) and frequent RA recurrence (52.4%). The Spearman's rho test results showed a very strong and significant correlation between the two variables

Abstract

Chronic diseases require continuous management and often impact patients’ physiological well-being. Family resilience, especially in belief systems and communication patterns, has an important role in supporting adaptation and recovery. This study aimed to examine the relationship between family resilience and physiological well-being in patients with chronic diseases. A quantitative study with a cross-sectional design was conducted on 86 patients at Dr. H. Moch Ansari Saleh General Hospital, Banjarmasin, selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using the Family Resilience Questionnaire focusing on belief systems and communication patterns, and a physiological well-being instrument. Data analysis was performed using Spearman’s Rho correlation. The findings showed that most respondents had moderate levels of family resilience and physiological well-being. The statistical test results revealed a significant positive correlation between family resilience and physiological well-being (p = 0.000; r = 0.701). These results indicate that the stronger the family’s belief system and communication patterns, the better the physiological health outcomes experienced by patients with chronic diseases. This study highlights the importance of involving families in patient care, especially through interventions that strengthen resilience and communication, to improve treatment adherence and overall health outcomes. Healthcare providers are encouraged to adopt family-centered strategies in chronic disease management
