Abstract

Charles J. Adams' concern about methods and approaches to the study of Islam is an academic concern about the failure of historians of religion to expand our knowledge and understanding of Islam as a religion, and experts on Islam (Islamists) to explain precisely the phenomenon of Islamic religiosity. To answer this academic anxiety, Charles J. Adam uses two disciplines, namely the history of religion and Islamic studies as a theoretical framework or framework (conceptual tool). To analyze the two disciplines, he uses two approaches, namely a normative or religious approach and a descriptive approach. The scope of his study consists of the study of Pre-Islamic Arabia, the Study of the Life of the Prophet Muhammad, the Study of the Qur'an, the Study of Hadith, the Study of Kalam Science, the Study of Sufism, the Study of the Shi'a School, Popular Religion, the Study of Worship, the Study of Philosophy, and the Study of Islamic Law. The major contribution of Adams' thought is to provide a distance between the normative approach that has a religious commitment in conducting research and the descriptive approach that has no religious commitment. The study of his thoughts on Islam has received some criticism and support. Among them is M. Amin Abdullah, who thinks that Charles J. Adams' thinking produces an understanding of Historicity-Profanity and Interconnectedness.

Abstract

When Western culture developed with its knowledge and reasoning, many Easterners studied in the West, including Muslims. so that the emergence of Islamic thinkers signaled an epistemological break in the epistemological system of Islamic sciences. The epistemological break has marked and impacted on a paradigm shift in the realm of Islamic thought. The epistemological disconnection in thinking for Arab-Islamic thinkers who explore the development of Western knowledge makes one of the contemporary Arab-Islamic thinkers 'Abid al-Jabiri to create a structure of thinking reason with a deconstructive approach. Abstract

Islamic teachings value plurality or plurality as an unavoidable empirical reality. Each religion has different directions in carrying out worship or religious ceremonies. Understanding the activities of other religions besides those we profess within ourselves will foster an attitude of tolerance. Tolerance in religion does not mean we mix religious teachings, but respect each other and help create security and comfort for people of other religions in worship. Thus the plurality (diversity) of religion is a sunnatullāh that cannot be avoided in the life of society, nation, and state. In general, religion is the primary source of values in the culture. However, these values cannot change automatically manifest in the practice of human life. In other words, the values, ideas, and spirits introduced by religion, including Islam in it, are still passive. It must be distinguished between the wealth of treasures, thoughts, and religious principles contained in the holy book, or religious book, with the ability of its adherents or institutions to interact with the role of civilization. In that realm, conflicts of interest and assertion of identity will emerge on a different scale

The aim of this research is to explore how efforts to strengthen religious moderation on social media can eradicate online radicalism. The author uses the Maudhu'i exegesis method, namely raising one topic then selecting several verses and hadiths related to religious moderation then connecting them with developments in technology, the internet and social media. The research results show that the use of counter-narrative material on social media will encourage religious moderation, tolerance, a spirit of pluralism, harmony and peace, so that the phenomenon of online radicalism can actually still be resisted by the younger generation. The way to do this is by strengthening religious moderation on social media such as; social media campaigns accompanied by collaboration with influencers, preaching religious moderation through podcasts, and creating innovative playstore-based religious moderation applications on smartphones.

Abstract

The Baayun Maulid tradition is a religious celebration specifically practised by the Banjar community in the month of Rabi'ul Awwal or what is commonly referred to as the "month of mulud". It is usually centred in the mosque in conjunction with the commemoration of the maulid of the prophet Muhammad. Children are swung on swings by their parents, the verses of the Holy Qur'an are recited, the verses of the prophet's maulid are chanted and prayers are offered to them. This research uses a qualitative approach with a focus on understanding and interpreting the symbols involved in every aspect of the Baayun Maulid tradition. The research method used was content analysis of documentation related to the Baayun Maulid tradition. The results show that symbolic interaction in this tradition covers a variety of elements, including celebration procedures, the use of religious symbols, and community participation in various ritual activities. The symbols found in this tradition not only contain religious values, but also reflect the values of close social solidarity and deep cultural identity among the Banjar people. The Baayun Maulid tradition is not only a religious ceremony, but is also recognised as an effective means to strengthen social ties within a community. Religious symbols become the glue that connects individuals within a framework of togetherness and unity. As such, this paper contributes to further understanding of how symbols in religious traditions can shape and strengthen a community's cultural identity
