Abstract

Breastfeeding provides health, psychological, social, and economic benefits for both mothers and babies. However, despite the WHO's global target to increase exclusive breastfeeding coverage, Indonesia has seen a decline. The main obstacles include lack of social support, ongoing education, and low maternal motivation and confidence. Husband support plays a vital role in the mother's psychological well-being and milk ejection reflex. This study aims to examine the relationship between husband support and bounding attachment with smooth breast milk production in postpartum mothers. A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 43 postpartum mothers at Purwodadi Health Center, Malang, using questionnaires and analyzed with Chi-Square and Fisher exact tests. Results showed 77% of mothers received low husband support, 51% had low bounding attachment, and 60% reported smooth milk production. There was a significant relationship between husband support (p=0.003) and bounding attachment (p=0.039) with milk production. In conclusion, strong husband support and good bounding improve breast milk flow.

Abstract

Abstract

Malaria is still one of the health problems in several countries, including Indonesia. Malaria cases in pregnant women in Indonesia in 2019 were around 1,769 cases, the most in Papua Province. Pregnancy with malaria has an effect on low birth weight. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between malaria infection in pregnant women and the incidence of low birth weight (BBLR) at the Harapan Health Center, East Sentani District, Jayapura Regency. This type of research is quantitative with a case control design with a retrospective approach. The population is all pregnant women who live in the working area of the Harapan Health Center with a history of malaria in the last 2 (two) years, namely 2022-2023 with a sample of 77 respondents taken using the total sampling technique  according to the inclusion criteria. Data were obtained using questionnaires. The data was analyzed using the chi-square test (x2) using a significance level of 95%, for the closeness of the relationship was seen using the OR (odd ratio) value. The results of the study were obtained by most (72.7%) pregnant women aged 20-35 years, with secondary education (42.9%), not working (62.3%) with multigravida parity (68.8%), with a pregnancy gap of 2-5 years (53.2%). Most pregnant women are infected with malaria (74%) and give birth to babies with BBLR (54.5%). Bivariate analysis showed that there was a relationship between malaria infection and the incidence of BBLR with a value of p = 0.0000. The results of the OR test found that pregnant women infected with malaria were 12 times more likely to give birth to babies with BBLR.

Abstract

Menstrual pain is a gynecological complaint due to an imbalance of the hormone progesterone in the blood, resulting in the most common pain in women. Women who experience menstrual pain produce 10 times more prostaglandins than women who do not experience menstrual pain. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of giving red ginger drinks on the intensity of menstrual pain in adolescent girls at the Cikelet Health Center, Garut Regency in 2024. This study used an experimental analytical research design of the pre-experimental type with a pretest - posttest one group design approach. The population in this study were all adolescent girls in grades 10 and 11 aged 16 to 19 years at the Cikelet Health Center, Garut Regency and the sampling technique used in this study was the total sampling technique. Data analysis used univariate and bivariate. The results of the study showed the intensity of menstrual pain in adolescent girls before being given red ginger drinks at the Cikelet Health Center, Garut Regency in 2024. Most of the 20 people (66.7%) experienced moderate pain, after being given red ginger drinks, most of the 16 adolescent girls (53.3%) experienced mild pain, the results of the Paired Samples Test with a significance level of α = 0.05 obtained the result of p = 0.001 which means p <0.05, namely Ha is accepted, which means there is an effect of giving red ginger drinks on the intensity of menstrual pain in adolescent girls at the Cikelet Health Center, Garut Regency in 2024. The results of this study are expected to increase knowledge and insight in midwifery, especially the effect of giving red ginger on reducing menstrual pain in adolescent girls.

Abstract

Breast milk is a white liquid produced by a woman's mammary glands and given through the breastfeeding process. Based on an initial survey conducted in the working area of Alusi Community Health Center, out of 10 respondents given a questionnaire, 7 did not provide exclusive breastfeeding, while 3 did. Among them, 4 had low knowledge, 3 had moderate knowledge, and 3 had good knowledge. Additionally, 6 respondents had a negative attitude, while 4 had a positive attitude. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between mothers' knowledge and attitudes toward exclusive breastfeeding at the Lumasebu Posyandu. This study employs a correlational analytic research design. The study population consists of all mothers with infants aged 6–24 months at Lumasebu Posyandu from November to December 2024, totaling 30 participants, using a saturated sampling method. The independent variables in this study are knowledge and attitude, while the dependent variable is exclusive breastfeeding. The data used include both primary and secondary data. The study applies the Spearman Rank correlation analysis. The findings show that knowledge has a p-value of 0.008, leading to the rejection of Ho (p < 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between knowledge and exclusive breastfeeding. Attitude has a p-value of 0.005 (< 0.05), meaning there is a significant relationship between mothers' attitudes and exclusive breastfeeding. The independent variable with the highest OR value is attitude, with an OR of 8.224, indicating that attitude is the dominant factor influencing exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

Anemia in pregnant women is a condition of low hemoglobin levels in pregnant women which is a common health problem and can affect both the mother and the fetus. One potential non-pharmacological method to overcome anemia is giving date infused water. Dates are rich in iron, vitamin B complex, and vitamin C which support the formation of hemoglobin and iron absorption. This study aims to analyze the effect of giving date infused water on hemoglobin levels in pregnant women. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The study population was all pregnant women in the third trimester with anemia at TPMB Mintarsih, S.SiT., Bd in the month of 33 people. The sampling technique was carried out using the total sampling technique. The results of the study showed that giving date palm infused water significantly increased hemoglobin levels in pregnant women with anemia in the third trimester. The Paired Samples Test statistical test produced a p value = 0.003 (p < 0.05), which indicates a significant effect of giving date palm infused water on increasing hemoglobin levels. This study recommends date infused water as a non-pharmacological intervention that can be used to support the health of pregnant women.

Abstract

Malaria is usually spread by the bite of a female Anopheles mosquito that has the disease., which feeds on blood to support egg development. Anopheles mosquitoes are typically active at night. During the blood-feeding process, the mosquito’s saliva containing Plasmodium parasites in the gametocyte stage enters the human body. Within the body, the male and female sexual forms (gametes) of the parasite unite to form a cyst-like sporozoite. These sporozoites then travel to the liver, where they multiply and develop into exoerythrocytic schizonts. Malaria can have negative impacts on pregnant women and their unborn babies. These effects may include maternal and infant death or a range of complications affecting the mother, fetus, and newborn. This research seeks to explore how malaria during pregnancy affects the weight of the placenta and the weight of newborns. A quantitative method with a descriptive approach was used. The study subjects were pregnant women infected with malaria who gave birth at the Sentani Health Center. Among the 12 respondents infected with malaria, all had placental weights of less than 500 grams. Meanwhile, the 20 respondents who were not infected with malaria all had placental weights of 500 grams or more. The Chi-square test for placental weight yielded a p-value of 0.000, indicating a significant effect of malaria infection in pregnant women on placental weight at Sentani Health Center, Jayapura Regency, in 2024

Abstract

This study was motivated by the need for optimal nutrition and the need for good sleep quality in infants to support their growth and development. This study aims to determine the effect of infant massage on nutritional status and sleep quality in infants aged 0-6 months. The research design was a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group design. The study population was infants aged 0-6 months who had low nutritional status and sleep quality at the Haji Hospital in Surabaya. Based on the table above, it can be interpreted that of the 12 infants who received infant massage in the control group and the experimental group, there was a significant effect with a p-value of 0.004 <α 0.05 on sleep quality. While for the nutritional status of the experimental group, a p-value of 0.003 <α 0.05 was obtained. In this study, it was concluded that there was a significant effect of giving infant massage on the sleep quality of infants aged 0-6 months. The researchers found that the quality of infant sleep had increased, where after the infant massage, the poor quality of infant sleep decreased, from 5 infants (41.7%) to 0 infants (0%). This is also seen in the category of good baby sleep quality, increasing significantly from 2 babies (16.7%) to 12 babies (100%) after baby massage. There is a significant effect of giving baby massage on the nutritional status of babies aged 0–6 months.

Abstract

Based on the 2020 Population Census, Indonesia's maternal mortality rate (MMR) reached 189 per 100,000 live births, ranking third highest in ASEAN. The high MMR is closely related to increased maternal morbidity. Early detection is a key strategy to reduce morbidity, one of which is by using the Modified Early Obstetric Warning System (MEOWS). This tool is effective in predicting morbidity risk and the length of postpartum care. This study is a literature review analyzing the effectiveness of MEOWS in reducing postpartum maternal morbidity. Articles were retrieved from electronic databases including PubMed, Sage Journal, Science Direct, and Proquest using the keywords “postpartum,” “modified early obstetric warning system,” and “maternal morbidity.” Out of 665 articles found, 6 were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The review results showed that MEOWS is effective in predicting postpartum maternal morbidity, with sensitivity reaching up to 99.3% and specificity of 93.5%.

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea pain is a cramp in the lower abdomen that occurs before menstruation or during menstruation. WHO (2017) said that 50% of women in every country experience dysmenorrhea. Treatment of dysmenorrhea consists of pharmacological and non-pharmacological. One of the non-pharmacological treatments is acupressure therapy. This study aims to determine the effect of acupressure therapy on dysmenorrhea pain in female students of SMA Muhammadiyah 7 Surabaya. The type of research used is quantitative, Quasi Experiment One Group Prepost-test research design. The study was conducted in January 2023 at SMA Muhammadiyah 7 Surabaya. The sampling technique used cluster sampling, with a sample size of 29 female students. The results of the study showed that before being given acupressure therapy, the majority of female students experienced moderate dysmenorrhea pain as many as 20 female students (69%) and a minority of severe pain as many as 5 female students (17.2%), after being given acupressure therapy, the pain scale experienced became mild as many as 26 female students (89.7%) and moderate pain as many as 3 female students (10.3%), the results of the data analysis test using paired sample T-test obtained a p-value of 0.000 <0.05, meaning that there is an effect of acupressure therapy on dysmenorrhea pain. Pressing the acupressure points at the taichong point (LV 3) and the sanyinjiao point (SP6) can reduce the sensation of dysmenorrhea pain, by increasing the hormone endorphin. The hormone endorphin is a hormone that can bring a sense of relaxation to the body naturally, which can release pain receptors to the brain.
