Abstract

Learning mathematics is a scourge for students; mathematics is considered difficult and scary, so it takes effort from a teacher to achieve the expected goals and fun. Mathematics requires a learning model to help students feel comfortable and happy; it is no longer a lesson they fear but a subject of interest. This study aims to provide solutions to students to follow the learning maximally and according to the goals to be achieved. This study is a type of qualitative descriptive research. The subjects in this study were teachers in MI Darussa'adah Domasan Kalidawir Tulungagung—data collection methods using observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis techniques used are data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results of this study explain that mathematics teachers apply the PBL model with several steps according to PBL syntax. Teachers experience several obstacles in using the Problem-Based Learning model, namely, lack of learning resources, lack of students' literacy skills, and limited time. However, the problem-based learning model has advantages in improving mathematics learning activities, including achieving goal activities so students can receive and achieve the target reference value or KKM.

Abstract

Mathematics learning in Madrasah Ibtidaiyah often faces significant obstacles due to a lack of interest and motivation in learning among students. This is often associated with using traditional and less interesting teaching methods, which do not meet students' basic psychological needs. To overcome this problem, this study used qualitative methods and purposive sampling to select respondents according to the study's needs. Data were collected through passive observation, semi-structured interviews, and documentation techniques, which were then analyzed using an interactive analysis model. This process facilitated an in-depth evaluation of the impact of using the Discovery Learning model supported by flashcard media. The results of this study indicate an increase in student engagement and motivation with the implementation of the Discovery Learning model and flashcards, characterized by increased interaction during learning sessions and a better understanding of mathematical concepts. Based on these results, it is recommended that educators integrate interactive and student-centered teaching methods, such as Discovery Learning, to increase engagement and motivation in learning mathematics. Further research is needed to explore the long-term impact of this pedagogical approach on student learning outcomes and satisfaction by comparing it with traditional teaching methods. This study's contribution is to prove that the Discovery Learning method and the use of flashcards are effective in increasing students' mathematical engagement and understanding. This supports the use of more interactive learning approaches to increase learning motivation. In addition, this study recommends further studies to assess the long-term impact of this method compared to traditional teaching, providing an important contribution to future educational research.

Abstract

Student independence in elementary schools is still considered low because many students rely on teachers to learn and more brilliant friends to work on questions. The culture of cheating when working on exam questions reflects that students lack confidence in their abilities. This study aims to provide an overview of using the Wordwall application as a learning medium for Natural and Social Sciences (IPAS) in developing the independent character of elementary school students. The researcher used a descriptive qualitative research method with data from interviews, observations, and documentation. This study found that the Wordwall application increased student engagement through interactive features that motivated and enriched the learning experience. Wordwall also supported students' self-directed learning by providing instant feedback, allowing them to explore and understand concepts independently. This application helped develop learning discipline and critical thinking skills through trial-and-error mechanisms. For optimization, Wordwall should be combined with other learning methods and integrated into a broader pedagogical approach to support the internalization of independent and disciplined characters in students' lives. The contribution of this study is to show the effectiveness of the Wordwall application in increasing student engagement and self-directed learning through its interactive features. This study recommends the integration of Wordwall with other learning methods to support the development of students' discipline and critical thinking skills more effectively.
