Abstract

The relocation of Sanur Port has led to a 40% decline in traders’ income, shifts in spatial functions, and the deterioration of infrastructure in the Bangsal Beach and Matahari Terbit Beach areas. This Community Service Program was implemented to address the needs of the main partners, namely BUMDA Galang Kangin Sanur, coastal traders, and the local community, through three key activities: design adaptation, masterplan revision, and construction supervision. The program began with field surveys and interviews involving 32 traders, coastal area mapping, and a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) attended by 26 representatives of BUMDA, the traditional village, and MSME groups. The planning process produced several adaptive design outputs, including the initial construction of four modular kiosks using galvanized steel structures, preparation for the improvement of a 300 meter pedestrian corridor that will be developed further depending on community interest, and the introduction of a porous drainage system to mitigate flooding. Periodic construction supervision was carried out to ensure compliance with technical specifications and material durability within the coastal environment. The outcomes of the program indicate improvements in public space comfort, fairer distribution of trading locations, and the strengthening of Balinese architectural identity through contextual design elements. Overall, this program provides direct benefits to coastal traders, BUMDA Sanur, and traditional community stakeholders, and serves as a model for implementing adaptive architectural approaches in the sustainable development of coastal areas.

Abstract

This Community Service (PkM) activity aims to strengthen the institutional capacity of the Galang Kangin Traditional Village through two focus activities, namely mentoring the management of the Regional Owned Enterprise (BUMDA) and the preparation of the Detail Engineering Design (DED) for the construction of the Sanur Kaja Traditional Village Head Office. The main problems of the partners include limited institutional infrastructure, the absence of technical development documents, and weak organizational governance of the BUMDA. The implementation method includes field surveys, technical design, Focus Group Discussions (FGD), organizational management training, and simulation of office construction financing. The results of the activity show the preparation of a complete DED document and increased competence of BUMDA administrators in organizational and financial governance based on local potential. This program is an example of collaboration between academics and indigenous communities in realizing adaptive, professional, and sustainable institutional governance.

Abstract

The physical comfort of a place of worship directly correlates with the reverence and tranquility of the congregation during worship activities. This community service project aims to make minor improvements to the prayer room (mushalla) on the campus of Universitas 45 Mataram. The method used to realize this community service activity is an active participation method with a descriptive approach. The implementation procedure includes the formation of a community service team, permitting, and implementing the service, which involves renovating the place of worship, or mushalla. The renovation of the mushalla as a form of community service begins with the formation of the team, obtaining permits, and implementing the service. The team consists of lecturers, educational staff, and students participating in the Community Service Program (KKN). The mushalla renovation is part of the KKN student program. Funding for the renovation comes from donors and volunteers within the team, not from the campus budget. The renovations include repairs to the roof, ceiling, doors, windows, and painting. The activity concludes with a cleanup and the installation of a signboard for the mushalla. The academic community, especially students, were very enthusiastic and moved by the renovation of the place of worship. This commitment was ultimately realized through self-funding, and the mushalla appears more comfortable for use as a place of worship.

Abstract

Rising commercial feed costs pose a major challenge for local fish farmers, as they inflate production expenses and reduce profit margins. This community service initiative aimed to enhance the knowledge and skills of fish farmers in producing high-quality, self-made feed using affordable and readily available local ingredients. The methods employed included educational sessions on fish nutrition, hands-on feed formulation workshops, practical feed production using grinding and pellet-molding machines, and questionnaire-based evaluations. The activity took place in Penimbung Village, involving the village government, local residents, university faculty and students, and fish farmers. Conducted by faculty members and students participating in the Student Community Service (KKN) program, the training—which encompassed team formation, planning, and the actual workshop—proceeded smoothly. The training featured hands-on practice, allowing participants to actively prepare and mix fish feed using local ingredients. This practical approach enabled participants to grasp technical aspects that theory alone cannot convey—such as texture, consistency, and aroma—while also allowing them to identify and correct errors in real-time. The hands-on nature of the training fostered enthusiasm and engagement, as participants could satisfy their curiosity and experience the process firsthand; ultimately, the initiative to produce fish feed using local ingredients was successfully executed.

Abstract

The celebration of Eid al-Adha embodies both strong spiritual and social dimensions through the observance of the sacrificial ritual “qurban”. This community service initiative aims to preserve the culture of “gotong royong” (mutual cooperation) within the community, spanning the entire process from the ritual slaughter to the distribution of the sacrificial meat. The project employed a participatory approach—specifically Participatory Action Research—actively involving all segments of the community from the planning stage through to the final distribution of the meat. The results demonstrate that the sacrificial ritual successfully served as an effective unifying force within the community. The spirit of mutual cooperation was particularly evident during the stages of slaughtering and meat distribution. Celebrations and traditions serve as vital opportunities to foster community awareness, compassion, a sense of togetherness, and the spirit of mutual cooperation. Such observances and traditions must be preserved to ensure the community continues to nurture unity and cohesion, especially in an era where there is a growing preference for instant solutions—such as outsourcing the slaughter to professional butchers or paid, exclusive facilities—which can diminish opportunities for communal togetherness.
