Abstract

This study aims to examine the effects of inflation, exchange rates, and global oil prices on the Jakarta Islamic Index (JII) in Indonesia. The approach used in this study is a quantitative approach utilizing secondary time-series data for the period 2016–2025, consisting of 120 monthly observations. The analytical technique used was multiple linear regression, with first-difference transformation to address the issue of data nonstationarity. The results indicate that inflation does not have a significant effect on the JII. Conversely, the exchange rate was found to have a significant negative effect, suggesting that a depreciation of the rupiah tends to dampen the performance of the Islamic stock index. Meanwhile, global oil prices have a significant positive effect on the JII. Collectively, these three variables account for 29,34% of the variation in the JII. These findings are expected to serve as a useful reference for investors and stakeholders in understanding the dynamics of macroeconomic factors in the Islamic capital market.

Abstract

Purpose – This study aims to examine how Living Tasawuf functions as a form of spiritual pedagogy in the internalization of akhlakul karimah among Islamic elementary school students. Specifically, the study explores the role of collective dhikr practiced on the first Monday of the month at SDIT X Pamulang as a medium for cultivating students’ moral and spiritual character. Design/methodology/approach – This research employs a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation involving the principal, Islamic education teachers, classroom teachers, dhikr facilitators, students, and parents. The data were analyzed using the interactive model of Miles, Huberman, and Saldaña, consisting of data condensation, data display, and conclusion drawing/verification. Findings – The findings reveal that the collective dhikr ritual is not merely a routine religious activity, but a living spiritual practice that embodies the values of tasawuf within the school culture. Dhikr serves as a spiritual pedagogy through habituation, teacher role modeling, value interpretation, and students’ religious experience. The internalized values include religiosity, discipline, politeness, respect for teachers, patience, gratitude, humility, responsibility, empathy, and self-control. Practical implications – The study suggests that Islamic elementary schools should manage dhikr activities as structured spiritual character-building programs supported by teacher guidance and parental involvement. Originality/value – This study contributes to the discourse on Islamic character education by positioning school-based dhikr as a practice of Living Tasawuf and as a spiritual pedagogical approach for internalizing akhlakul karimah in elementary education.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the low mastery of Arabic vocabulary among tenth-grade students at MA Al-Husaini, Bima City, due to the learning process being conventional, textual, and lacking relevance to the students' socio-cultural environment. The purpose of this study was to improve vocabulary mastery through the implementation of learning strategies based on Bima local culture. The method used was Classroom Action Research (CAR), implemented in two cycles. The study subjects consisted of 27 tenth-grade students. Data collection techniques included tests (pre-test and post-test), observation, and documentation. The results showed a significant increase in students' vocabulary mastery. In Cycle I, the average class score reached 74.6, with a completion rate of 70.4%. After improvements in Cycle II, which included strengthening the use of Arabic-Bima loan terms and using more varied visual media, the average class score jumped to 80.0, with a completion rate of 100%. Qualitatively, the integration of local culture can increase students' enthusiasm and confidence in pronouncing vocabulary due to an emotional connection to the material being taught. This study concludes that local wisdom-based learning is effective in bridging students' understanding and facilitating the natural internalization of Arabic vocabulary.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the strengthening of character education among students through tahfidz learning at SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Andong. This research employed a qualitative descriptive method with data collection techniques consisting of observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subject was an Islamic Religious Education teacher who supervised the tahfidz extracurricular activity in Class X Creative at SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Andong. The study was conducted from July 26 to August 1, 2022. The results showed that the implementation of tahfidz learning was carried out through several stages, including the preparation and selection of instructors, grouping students based on their memorization abilities, conducting muroja’ah and ziyadah activities, and submitting memorization to the supervising teacher. Tahfidz learning also applied methods and habituation activities that supported the process of memorizing the Qur’an. The implementation of character education through tahfidz learning developed several character values in students, namely religiosity, honesty, discipline, reading interest, and responsibility. In addition, evaluations were conducted daily and periodically to determine the development of students’ memorization and behavior. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that tahfidz learning at SMK Muhammadiyah 2 Andong contributes positively to strengthening students’ character education through the habituation of Islamic values in daily life.

Abstract

This study discusses narcotics from the perspective of contemporary fiqh with a focus on the analysis of qawā‘id fiqhiyyah and the comparison of opinions among Islamic legal schools (madhhab). Narcotics abuse in the modern era is not only a matter of positive law and public health, but also raises moral, social, and religious problems that require a comprehensive Islamic legal approach. This research aims to analyze the legal basis of narcotics in Islam through the approach of qawā‘id fiqhiyyah, examine the views of the four major madhhab scholars regarding narcotics, and explain their relevance to positive law and contemporary medical developments. This research employs a normative Islamic legal research method with a descriptive-analytical qualitative approach. The data were collected through library research using primary sources such as the Qur’an, Hadith, classical Islamic jurisprudence books, contemporary scholars’ works, and national legal regulations. Data analysis was conducted using content analysis and comparative approaches to compare the perspectives of the Hanafi, Maliki, Shafi‘i, and Hanbali schools regarding narcotics. The results of the study indicate that the majority of Islamic scholars agree that narcotics abuse is prohibited (haram) because it shares the same ‘illat (legal cause) as khamr, namely intoxicating effects, damage to reason, and harmful consequences. The legal determination is strengthened through the application of qawā‘id fiqhiyyah such as al-ḍarar yuzāl (harm must be eliminated), dar’ al-mafāsid muqaddam ‘alā jalb al-maṣāliḥ (preventing harm takes precedence over obtaining benefit), and al-ḍarūrāt tubīḥ al-maḥẓūrāt (necessity permits prohibited matters). This study also finds that Islamic law provides limited permissibility for the medical use of narcotics in emergency situations under professional supervision. Furthermore, a rehabilitative approach toward narcotics addicts is considered more aligned with the principles of maqāṣid al-syarī‘ah than a purely punitive approach. Therefore, contemporary fiqh has strong relevance in addressing modern narcotics issues through a flexible, contextual, and benefit-oriented approach.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of blockchain technology in enhancing transparency and public trust in waqf institutions in Indonesia. The research employs a qualitative approach using literature study and conceptual analysis methods based on various scientific journals, regulations, institutional reports, and recent blockchain literature. The results indicate that blockchain possesses characteristics such as decentralization, immutability, transparency, and smart contracts, which can strengthen the governance of waqf institutions. The implementation of blockchain enables real-time recording of waqf transactions, improves accountability in asset management, and expands public participation in digital waqf. The study also finds that low transparency and weak reporting systems are the main factors contributing to the decline of public trust in some waqf institutions. Blockchain technology can serve as a strategic solution by providing a secure and transparent public verification mechanism. However, the implementation of blockchain in Indonesia still faces challenges, including regulatory issues, limited digital infrastructure, high system development costs, and low human resource competence. This study recommends strengthening digital waqf regulations, improving technological literacy, and fostering synergy among the government, waqf institutions, academics, and technology companies in developing a blockchain-based digital waqf ecosystem in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Islamic Religious Education (PAI) teachers in the formation of students' religious character at SDIT Nurul Iman Purwantoro. The research method used a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews with PAI teachers and the principal. The results showed that PAI teachers have very adequate pedagogical competence, characterized by the ability to understand the uniqueness of student learning styles, design differentiated learning, and integrate PAI with other subjects. The principal applies a collaborative-humanist leadership style that empowers teachers and builds a religious school culture. Supporting factors for the formation of religious character include teacher role models, a conducive school environment, structured religious programs, adequate facilities, and synergy with parents. Meanwhile, inhibiting factors include a lack of consistency in the application of values, external environmental influences, and limited internal awareness of students. This study concludes that the pedagogical competence of PAI teachers and the collaborative leadership of the principal contribute significantly to the quality of PAI learning and the formation of students' religious character.

Abstract

Contemporary Islamic preaching (dakwah) faces increasingly complex structural pressures: digital platforms offer unprecedented reach, yet the attention economy ecosystem systematically pushes dakwah to align with the logic of viral, easily consumable, and engagement-oriented content. Consequently, a fundamental and urgent question arises: does dakwah still function as an agent of social change, or has it transformed into a component of the religious entertainment industry? This article responds to that question by constructing a typology of performative dakwah and transformative dakwah. This analytical framework distinguishes between preaching oriented toward symbolic representation and audience consumption versus preaching focused on tangible and measurable social change. A distinctive feature of this article is that this typology is not built from theoretical frameworks imported from outside the Islamic tradition, but is instead extracted from the thoughts and practices of K.H. Ahmad Dahlan, the founder of Muhammadiyah, who consistently rejected verbalistic dakwah and placed social transformation at the core of the Islamic mission. Using a qualitative approach based on library research and critical-conceptual analysis, this study demonstrates that K.H. Ahmad Dahlan’s logic centered on the unity of faith, knowledge, and action, along with an explicit bias toward marginalized groups provides a robust theological and methodological foundation for evaluating contemporary digital dakwah trends. The findings indicate that most digital dakwah in Indonesia today leans toward performative patterns, and while the space for transformative dakwah in the digital era is narrow, it remains viable and must be consciously nurtured.

Abstract

Religious discourse in Indonesia is the result of complex interactions between religious texts and diverse local cultures. However, in the last two decades, there have been efforts to reject the practice of local culture in religion. These efforts have been carried out and disseminated through formal and non-formal education, preaching, interpretation, and educational books. One educational book that is suspected of promoting purification discourse is Peladjaran Tafsir Qurän (Quranic Interpretation Lessons). This book is used as a reference for teachers and students in religious teacher training schools. This is an interesting topic to explore because the interpretation literature in PGA and the ideology in the book have not yet been exposed. This research is a library research using content analysis of selected verses in the Qur'anic interpretation lessons. By analyzing Surah Yunus verse 106 and Al-Maidah verse 3 in three books of Peladjaran Tafsir Qurän, respectively by H.M.K. Bakry and M. Nur Idris, and M. Nur Idris, H.M.K. Bakry and Drs. Gazali Dunia, the conclusion that can be drawn is that the interpretations in the Qur'anic Exegesis lessons contain modernist Islamic ideology in the literature of Religious Teacher Education. The authors of the interpretations sought to criticize traditional Islamic practices in society, such as visiting and praying at the graves of wali, decorating graves, and slaughtering animals in the name of aulia. These behaviors were considered blind imitation, bid'ah, khurafat, and shirk.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of regional transfer funds on income inequality through economic growth as a mediating variable in Kutai Kartanegara Regency. Using a quantitative explanatory approach, the research employed time-series secondary data for the 2010–2024 period sourced from Statistics Indonesia (BPS) and the Ministry of Finance. The data were analyzed using path analysis with three regression models and the Sobel test to examine the mediation effect. The results show that regional transfer funds (Revenue Sharing Fund/DBH, General Allocation Fund/DAU, Special Allocation Fund/DAK, and Provincial Financial Assistance) do not simultaneously have a significant effect on economic growth, while economic growth itself has no significant effect on income inequality. In the direct-effect model, DAU significantly widens inequality, whereas DAK significantly reduces it. The Sobel test confirms that economic growth fails to mediate the effect of regional transfer funds on income inequality (all p-values > 0.05). These findings indicate that the relationship between transfer funds and inequality is predominantly direct rather than transmitted through macroeconomic growth, reflecting a structural bottleneck in a resource-dependent region. Inequality reduction must therefore rely on directly targeted, pro-equity fiscal spending rather than aggregate economic growth.
