Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of digital media exposure and global cultural representation on media usage motivation and online shopping behavior among Generation Z in Denpasar City, while also assessing the mediating role of media usage motivation. A quantitative approach was employed using a cross-sectional survey design with 170 Generation Z respondents (aged 18–29 years) who are active users of social media and e-commerce platforms. Data analysis was conducted using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) and the Sobel test. The findings reveal that digital media exposure significantly influences media usage motivation (β = 0.322; CR = 2.728; p = 0.006) and online shopping behavior (β = 0.211; CR = 2.501; p = 0.007). Global cultural representation demonstrates a stronger impact on both media usage motivation (β = 0.664; CR = 5.602; p < 0.001) and online shopping behavior (β = 0.603; CR = 5.581; p < 0.001). Furthermore, media usage motivation positively affects online shopping behavior (β = 0.368; CR = 3.899; p < 0.001). The Sobel test results indicate t = 2.273 (digital media) and t = 3.089 (global culture), both exceeding 1.96, thereby confirming that media usage motivation serves as a significant mediator. This study reaffirms the relevance of the Uses and Gratifications (U&G) theory in explaining the digital consumption patterns of Generation Z. The novelty lies in integrating the global culture variable into the U&G framework to explain Generation Z’s online shopping behavior within a culturally rooted urban context (Denpasar), which remains underexplored in the international literature. These findings enrich the discourse on cross-cultural digital consumer behavior and offer practical contributions to digital marketing strategies, digital literacy policies, and the empowerment of MSMEs through e-commerce.

Abstract

This study, entitled “Marketing Communication Strategy for Children’s Clothing Through Shopee E-Commerce (A Case Study of Saga Bandung Store)”, aims to identify and understand the marketing communication strategies implemented by Saga Bandung in marketing children’s clothing products on Shopee. Using a qualitative research method with a case study approach and supported by the Marketing Communication Theory by Schiffman and Kanuk (2004), the Marketing Communication Strategy Theory by the Four A’s (in Sulaksana, 2005), and based on the 4P Marketing Mix Theory by Kotler and Keller (2016). Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings reveal that Saga Bandung’s marketing communication strategy through Shopee has proven effective by maximizing the platform’s features, maintaining consistency in market analysis, focusing on product volume and store quantity (“store boom”), and integrating the marketing mix (4Ps), namely product, price, place, and promotion. However, a high dependency on Shopee creates vulnerabilities for the business, such as performance decline due to platform penalties, limited distribution channels, and the absence of expansion to other platforms. Additionally, the limited number of staff results in suboptimal responses to customers. These findings are expected to serve as a reference for similar businesses and contribute to the development of marketing communication strategy theory within the context of digital business.

Abstract

Digital transformation is driving mass media to adopt more interactive news formats, one of which is immersive journalism based on 360° video. This study aims to analyze the needs and challenges of developing 360° journalistic content by linking three theoretical foundationsaffordance, presence, and journalistic ethics to formulate an effective design approach. The method used is the 4D R&D model (Define, Design, Develop, Disseminate) with a mixed approach: a questionnaire to map public interest and perception, a literature review to map the latest technical ethical findings, and in-depth interviews with journalists to understand industry needs, production constraints, and technology adoption strategies. The results show a growing demand for 360° content; journalists consider this format to open up opportunities for richer and more empathetic storytelling, while 85% of audience respondents expressed interest in trying/watching 360° content due to the more immersive experience and navigation control. However, significant barriers include device and training costs, post-production complexity, reliance on network infrastructure, adoption challenges for older users (approximately 30% report dizziness/difficulty wearing VR headsets), and ethical risks associated with potential emotional manipulation. This study proposes a 360° prototype design framework that integrates affordance (free navigation, rotation, and visual focus), presence enhancement for cognitive empathy, and ethical guidelines (transparency of source, context, and privacy). Practical implications include the need for technical training, funding support, and cross-platform dissemination strategies for more inclusive adoption.

Abstract

The rapid development of Artificial Intelligence (AI) opens up significant opportunities for transforming the world of education, particularly in terms of the efficiency of creating instructional materials. However, many educators in rural areas, such as in Solok, West Sumatra, have not yet made optimal use of this technology due to limited digital literacy. This community service initiative aims to enhance the capacity of instructors (university lecturers and school teachers) in the City and Regency of Solok to design, create, and develop AI-based interactive teaching materials. The approach involves hands-on workshops combined with intensive mentoring. The AI applications covered in the training included ChatGPT for developing syllabi and text-based materials, Gamma.app for visual presentations, and Quizizz AI for learning assessment. The target audience consisted of 45 participants, comprising university lecturers and high school teachers in Solok. Evaluation results from pre- and post-tests showed a 64% increase in participants’ theoretical understanding and a 78% increase in practical skills. Additionally, 92% of participants successfully produced AI-based instructional modules ready for implementation. This initiative concluded that AI integration has proven capable of reducing the time required to produce instructional materials while simultaneously improving the visual quality and diversity of educators’ instructional content.
