Abstract

Penelitian ini mengkaji tentang hasil penerjemahan, pergeseran bentuk, dan pergeseran makna yang ada pada versi penerjemahan bahasa Indonesia dan versi penerjemahan bahasa Jepang dari novel bahasa Inggris Little Women karya Louisa May Alcott. Hal ini dilakukan dengan harapan penerjemah yang bergelut di tiga bahasa yang terlibat di penelitian ini dapat menerjemahkan idiom dengan lebih tepat dengan mengetahui hasil dari penelitian. Untuk menganalisis data yang telah dikumpulkan, peneliti menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Selain itu, metode simak dan catat juga digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data. Dalam penelitian ini, digunakan teori pergeseran bentuk dalam penerjemahan oleh Catford (1965). Untuk melihat bagaimana pergeseran makna yang ada dalam penerjemahan novel dari BSu ke BSa digunakan teori makna oleh Simatupang (2000). Dari hasil pengumpulan data terdapat 42 idiom yang digunakan pada novel Little Women. Dari 42 data tersebut, terdapat hanya dua idiom yang diterjemahkan kembali menjadi idiom ke dalam bahasa Indonesia. Empat data yang diterjemahkan kembali menjadi idiom ke dalam bahasa Jepang. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa pergeseran bentuk yang terjadi pada hasil penerjemahan bahasa Indonesia sebanyak 33 data dan 30 data pada hasil penerjemahan bahasa Jepang. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa idiom yang berbentuk frasa, sering diterjemahkan menjadi satuan bahasa yang non-frasa karena perbedaan penggunaan idiom tiap bahasa. Selain pergeseran bentuk juga terdapat pergeseran makna pada hasil terjemahan novel Little Women. Pergeseran makna yang terdapat dari hasil penerjemahan bahasa Indonesia sebanyak 13 data dan 15 data pada hasil penerjemahan bahasa Jepang. Hal ini menunjukkan bahwa penerjemahan idiom sangat dipengaruhi oleh latar belakang budaya dan bahasa masing-masing penerjemah. This research is discussing the translation result, translational shifts, and semantical shifts that happened in the Indonesian and Japanese translation of English novel Little Women written by Louisa May Alcott. With this research, I hope that those who are in the field of translating idioms in the languages involved, could translate idioms more accurately by knowing the result of this research. This research uses the ‘read and filter' method to collect datas, and uses ‘qualitative analytic' to analyze the datas that has been found. This research uses ‘translation shift' theory from Catford (1965), and ‘semantic shift' theory from Simatupang (2000). From the analysis, it has been found that there are 42 idioms in Little Women. From those 42 idioms, only 2 has been translated back to idiom in Indonesian translation, and only 4 has been translated back to idiom in Japanese translation. Furthermore, there are 33 translation shifts in Indonesian translation, and 30 translation shifts in Japanese translation. This shows that idioms, which are phrases, are usually translated into non-phrases, which shows how different each languages use their idioms. Meanwhile, there are 13 semantic shifts in Indonesian translation, and 15 semantic shifts in Japanese translation. From the analysis, I have also found that idioms and its translations are heavily influenced by the translator's cultural background.

Abstract

Image is an ideal picture of something. In commercial there are several types of images that are often displayed, including women's image, masculine image, luxury and exclusive image, social class image, pleasure image, benefit image, friendship image, and sexuality image. One example of a commercial that displays an image is a cosmetic commercial. The image displayed in general cosmetic commercial is the image of beauty through certain beauty criteria or standards. The image of beauty itself is classified as a form of women's image which illustrates that every woman always wants to look beautiful. In Japanese cosmetics commercial Shiseido "The Secret of High School Girls", to promote Shiseido women's beauty products using men as a model. The presence of female cosmetic commercial featuring men as a model made the writer interested in seeing how the image of cosmetics produced through the use of the male model. This study aims to analyze the image of cosmetics that appeared in Shiseido's cosmetic commercial "The Secret of High School Girls". This study uses qualitative research methods as a research method, and uses the method of documentation and literature in data collection. Documents in the form of pieces of scenes or scenes from Shiseido's commercial video "The Secret of High School Girls" were then analyzed using concepts such as the concept of advertising images and the concept of beauty of joshi kousei. The results of this study are 1) the image of Japanese beauty that is used as a standard of beauty by Shiseido is the beauty of joshi kousei who is portrayed as a young, fresh, and beautiful figure with maximum makeup; 2) the image of Shiseido's cosmetic benefits shown by the greatness of Shiseido's cosmetic products through the transformation process of turning men into joshi kousei.

Abstract

Writing business emails in Japanese has some challenges for second language learners. This can be seen from the mistakes made by students on the exam results of the Tegami no Kakikata course in the Pendidikan Bahasa Jepang study program at Universitas Negeri Jakarta. This research utilized qualitative methods with documentary techniques to identify errors in Japanese business email writing. The findings revealed various language errors within Japanese business emails. A major finding was the prevalence of Sonota (miscellaneous) errors, accounting for 58.5% of the total errors. This category indicates diverse errors that cannot be specifically classified into other categories. Furthermore, errors categorized under Datsuraku (omission of sentence elements) ranked second, totaling 32 errors or 20%. Additionally, Gokeishiki (word formation errors) represented 26 errors or 16%. Following these were Fuka (addition of sentence elements) with 7 errors (4.5%), Ichi (misplacement) with 2 errors (1%), and Kondo (exchange errors) which had no recorded errors. From the predominantly Sonota errors, the order of prevalence of errors in Japanese business email can be arranged from most common to least common. The highest error category was Kata/kalimat kurang tepat (inaccurate phrases/sentences) at 27%, followed by Pemahaman instruksi soal (understanding instructional questions) at 17%, Penulisan kenmei (件名) (kenmei writing) and Penggunaan 様 dan さん (usage of 様 dan さん) (16% each). Subsequently, Konsep uchi dan soto (uchi and soto concept) and Penulisan kanji (kanji writing) had 10% each, Interferensi bahasa Indonesia (interference of Indonesian language) had 4%, and Pleonasme had 2%, depicting fewer errors. The analysis indicates common errors in Japanese business emails are associated with inaccurate phrases/sentences, while less common errors are related to Pleonasme.

Abstract

Kawaii bunka is about something that has cute, funny and childish impression. The concept of kawaii bunka is not only found in anime and manga characters, but is also shown in maid cafes in Japan, in which one of the most popular maid cafe in Japan is @Home Cafe Akihabara. This research aims to examine what kind of forms of kawaii bunka that can be found in @Home Cafe Akihabara through Visiting Japanese Maid Cafe | @Home Cafe Akihabara | ASMR vlog. This research is descriptive qualitative research and uses theory of kawaii bunka by Kinsella. The result of this research shows that kawaii bunka in @Home Cafe Akihabara is reflected through the maid's handwriting in polaroid photos, the uniforms worn by the maids, the food and drinks served, the behavior and identity of the maids, the demographics of the waiters and visitors who come, and the products and services offered by @Home Cafe Akihabara. These aspects emphasize childish sentiments, so it can be understood that there is a narrative in which maid cafes are places where visitors can feel and act childishly.

Abstract

The changes in the Japanese population with an increasing number of elderly and the decline in the number of children caused a problem in society. Currently many Japanese elderlies live in poverty. These elderly are known as karyuu roujin. The term karyuu roujin was introduced by Takanori Fujita, a social worker in 2015. This term became the starting point for the depiction of poverty from the actual situation of the elderly in Japan. The term karyuu roujin is defined as old people who live with basic welfare standards and worried about their living conditions. Now, Japan's first baby boomer generation getting old and poverty have become commonly seen among these elderly people. It is estimated that there are around 6-7 million karyuu roujin. The purpose of this paper is to describe karyuu roujin as a class of poor elderly in japan and the problems faced in old age. The method used is qualitative with descriptive analysis. The results indicate that with longer life spans, the elderly are becoming an increasingly large class of the poor in the Japanese population. The problems faced by these poor elderly people include a small pension, high medical costs, no children or family to ask for help. The impact of this poverty is that many elderly people commit criminal acts and suicide.

Abstract

This study examines forms of female objectification and the practice of male gaze in three short stories from the collection titled 象の消滅/Zou No Shoumetsu by Murakami Haruki. Employing a qualitative approach and descriptive method, this research analyzes narrative excerpts from the short stories ねじまき鳥と火曜日の女たち/Nejimaki-dori to kayōbi no onnatachi, ファミリー・アフェア/Famirii afea, and 四月のある晴れた朝に 100 パーセントの女の子に出会うことについて/Shigatsu no aru hareta asa ni 100-paasento no onna no ko ni deau koto ni tsuite/. Data are scrutinized through the perspectives of Martha Nussbaum's objectification theory and Laura Mulvey's male gaze theory. The analysis reveals consistent patterns in female objectification and the practice of male gaze. Women are reduced to mere physical appearances without consideration for individual depth, while male gaze is reflected in the domination of masculine viewpoints focusing on the sexualization of women. Despite differences in context and character interactions among the three short stories, the pattern of female objectification remains consistent. These findings underscore the importance of critical reflection on the representation of women in contemporary Japanese literature and efforts to address gender stereotypes in literary works.

Abstract

The business relationship between Indonesia and Japan continues to strengthen in line with the increasing number of Indonesian migrant workers in Japan. As of June 2023, there were 25,337 Indonesian Migrant Workers (PMI) working in Japan through the Specified Skilled Worker (SSW) program, and the number of Indonesian apprentices reached 45,919 as of December 2022. These workers are required to have Japanese language skills. This study aims to determine the effectiveness and relevance of one method in Japanese language learning, namely the role-play method, in improving Japanese speaking skills among prospective PMI. The research method involved distributing questionnaires to 17 prospective PMI undergoing training at a vocational training center (BLK). The results revealed that the majority of respondents experienced increased confidence after participating in Japanese language learning through the role-play method. The main challenges faced were generally related to vocabulary and sentence structure; however, the role-play method was found to be highly engaging and helpful in improving speaking skills. Japanese language learning requires an interactive approach to build confidence and effective understanding, and in this case, role-play has proven to be an effective method in enhancing interest, engagement, and Japanese speaking ability.

Abstract

Indonesian Migrant Workers with tokutei ginou (specified skilled worker) visas in Japan experience problems and obstacles while working in Japan. To overcome these problems, they carry out adaptation strategies for each problem. This study aims to find out the problems of Indonesian migrant workers in Japan and how to adapt to these problems. This research is descriptive qualitative research and uses a case study approach. The objects in this research are three Indonesian Migrant Workers with tokutei ginou visas who work in the hospitality industry in Hokkaido, Japan. In collecting data, in-depth interviews were conducted. The results of this research reveal that Indonesian migrant workers experience several problems while working in Japan, such as differences in habits, work culture, language barriers, environmental conditions, absence of places of worship, and incompatibility of work contracts. From these problems, the migrant workers have ways to deal with these problems in order to adapt in Japan. Such as adjusting to the habits of Japanese society, relearning the Japanese language, familiarizing themselves with the weather conditions in Japan, and worshiping in their respective residences. It can be concluded that the adaptation strategies carried out by Indonesian migrant workers based on John William Bennett's theory are 1) adaptive behavior to adjust differences in habits; 2) adaptive strategy to deal with problems of work culture, language, environment, and religion; and 3) adaptive process to deal with work culture problems.

Abstract

The decline in Japan's population has become a major concern, with the number of deaths nearly double the number of births in 2022. One predicted contributing factor is haji no bunka (the culture of shame), which reflects the values of honor and shame within Japanese society. This study aims to explore whether the culture of shame contributes to Japan's population decline. The research uses a quantitative approach, analyzing survey data from 20 single Japanese individuals to assess their understanding and application of haji no bunka. The results indicate that while most respondents do not fully understand the culture of shame, many apply it in their daily lives. This culture encourages a focus on work and social status over marriage, as a means to avoid shame related to social and financial status. In conclusion, shame related to social and financial status is a major barrier to family formation, with Japanese respondents prioritizing work to avoid shame and discrimination. This highlights the importance of economic stability and social status as crucial prerequisites for marriage and family life.

Abstract

This study is part of the third stage of Research and Development (R&D), which is to develop products and test their effectiveness. The purpose of this study was to develop a video as a Japanese language learning media focusing on vocabulary related to souzai seizougyou. In addition, this research also tested its feasibility for prospective Technical Intern Training Program (TITP) at LPK Hishou Universal Style, Bangli, Bali. There are 10 learning videos in which each video consists of vocabulary introduction, pronunciation practice, and practice questions using native speakers' voice over. This research uses the Four-D (4D) model by Thiagarajan et al. (1974) with four stages, Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate. Data collection was carried out by interviews and expert test questionnaires (material expert test, media expert test) as well as limited product trials to produce an optimal product. As a result, the material expert obtained a score of 87.5 (very suitable) and 95.31 (very suitable) from the media expert. Furthermore, the score from the instructor trial was 100 (very suitable) and the trial with prospective apprentices was 98% (very feasible). Therefore, this learning video is suitable to be used as a media to support Japanese vocabulary learning activities.
