Abstract

This study examines the influence of capital structure, sales growth, and firm size on firm value, with profitability acting as a mediating variable. The empirical analysis is conducted on firms operating in the metals and related sub-sectors listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) over the period 2011–2021, with a sample comprising only firms with complete financial disclosures. Utilizing a causal-comparative research design, the study seeks to identify and generalize the structural relationships among key financial variables. The study considers capital structure, sales growth, and firm size as independent variables, with firm value serving as the dependent variable and profitability (as measured by Return on Assets) functioning as a mediating construct. A quota sampling technique was employed to select 14 firms from the metals and related sub-sectors listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), based on data completeness and sectoral relevance. The analytical framework incorporates descriptive statistics, classical assumption testing, model fit evaluation, multiple linear regression analysis, and hypothesis testing to examine the proposed relationships. The empirical results indicate that capital structure has a positive and statistically significant effect on firm value. Conversely, sales growth exhibits a negative but statistically insignificant relationship with firm value, while firm size demonstrates a significant negative impact. Profitability shows a positive and significant influence on firm value. Further analysis reveals that capital structure negatively affects profitability, although the effect is not statistically significant. Sales growth has a positive and significant impact on profitability, whereas firm size is positively related to profitability, albeit insignificantly. Mediation testing confirms that profitability does not mediate the relationship between capital structure and firm value; however, it significantly mediates the effects of both sales growth and firm size on firm value.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze how Minangkabau cultural values are represented through the Minangkabau Tiger Silat account on Instagram. Using a qualitative approach and Charles Sanders Peirce’s semiotic theory, this research investigates how signs in the form of icons, indexes, and symbols are used to depict cultural meanings. The data were collected through observation, documentation, and interviews with silat practitioners. The results show that Instagram visuals can successfully present philosophical values such as religiosity, reverence for ancestors, harmony with nature, and resilience. This study contributes to the growing field of cultural communication in digital media and suggests future studies to explore audience engagement in cultural preservation efforts online.

Abstract

The complexity of the problems that occur in Rumah Tahanan Negara (Rutan) Kelas I Depok, is one of the problems that continues. The relationship between officers and tahanan pendamping (tamping) that looks good, becomes a false picture with the discovery of communication devices in the prison cells, plans to smuggle narcotics into the prison environment, and conflicts in communication between prisoners and prisoners. The hidden motive behind the behavior and interpersonal communication that is well established between officers and companions, is an aspect that needs to be explored. This research, focuses on aspects of interpersonal communication and attribution in tamping. This research uses a post-positivisme paradigm with a descriptive qualitative method, which refers to the theory of interpersonal communication and attribution with the Coding Color Analysis Procedure (CCAP) analysis method. Data collection was carried out by means of observation, interviews and literature documents. The results of this research see a more intense interpersonal communication process between tamping and officers outside of duty hours with the context of the conversation more about personal life. Internal attribution of tamping different behavior, will be good with officers and will be conflict if with other prisoners. The tamping motive of getting benefits and convenience from closeness to officers is one of the causes of differences in internal attribution of tamping behavior.

Abstract

This study investigates the spatial dynamics of economic growth in East Java Province by applying spatial panel econometrics models. Using secondary panel data from 38 districts/cities for the period 2016–2023, the research incorporates variables such as economic growth rate, regional original income (PAD), capital expenditure, and labor. The Moran’s I test reveals a negative value, indicating spatial dispersion patterns where high-growth regions are surrounded by low-growth areas and vice versa, suggesting regional inequality. Furthermore, the Spatial Autoregressive (SAR) model confirms the existence of significant inter-regional spillover effects, meaning that economic growth in one region can positively influence neighboring areas. The Spatial Error Model (SEM) also highlights the role of unobserved external factors such as geography, institutions, and socio-cultural aspects. Empirical findings show that PAD and capital expenditure have a significant positive impact on economic growth, while labor does not significantly affect regional development outcomes, emphasizing the importance of workforce quality over quantity. These results underline the necessity of collaborative and inclusive development planning, fiscal strengthening, and strategic investment in human resources to reduce interregional disparities and promote sustainable growth across East Java.

Abstract

This study investigates the effectiveness of forgiveness therapy in enhancing self-forgiveness among women affected by parental divorce. The subject, a 26-year-old female entrepreneur, was struggling with self-blame, particularly following the trauma of her parents' divorce. The research applied the Heartland Forgiveness Scale (HFS) to assess self-forgiveness levels before and after a structured six-session intervention. The forgiveness therapy, based on Enright’s model, involved phases such as uncovering pain, decision to forgive, working through emotions, and deepening the process. Data collected showed a significant improvement in the client’s ability to forgive herself, as evidenced by her higher scores on the HFS after completing the therapy. The study reveals the critical role of forgiveness interventions in addressing emotional pain, particularly self-blame, in the aftermath of traumatic life events like divorce. Findings also highlight the therapeutic potential of structured forgiveness programs to improve psychological well-being and life satisfaction. This case study contributes to the growing body of literature on forgiveness therapy and its application in trauma recovery.

Abstract

This article examines Sheikh Yusuf Al-Qardhawi’s views on the concept of ikhtilat from the perspective of sadd al-zari’ah, a preventive principle in Islamic jurisprudence aimed at closing the doors to harm or damage. This study is qualitative in nature, employing a library research method within normative Islamic legal research, using a conceptual approach or an analysis of the scholar’s thought. The research is descriptive-analytical. The results reveal that, according to Yusuf Al-Qardhawi, the default ruling on gatherings between men and women (ikhtilat) is permissible. However, the ruling can vary depending on the surrounding circumstances. The permissibility of ikhtilat gatherings is also subject to several conditions, including: guarding one’s gaze, covering the aurat (parts of the body that should be covered), avoiding conspicuous appearance, preventing seclusion (khalwat), and limiting the gathering strictly to necessary purposes. Al-Qardhawi’s view on the permissibility of ikhtilat is based on the principle of sadd al-zari’ah.

Abstract

This research examines the communication strategies implemented by PT DMGP in dealing with community rejection of their geothermal project on Mount Pangrango using a relational dialectic theory approach. The constructivist paradigm is used to understand that PT DMGP builds shared perceptions and understanding through dynamic interactions with stakeholders. This study uses qualitative methods with in-depth interviews with key stakeholders, including company representatives, local government, police, military and community. Analysis of PT DMGP's corporate communications (corcom) shows that their strategy consists of elements of contradiction, movement, totality and praxis which have proven effective in creating constructive dialogue. Contradictory strategy in the form of an information strategy that successfully manages the tension between transparency (openness) and the protection of sensitive information (closedness) by providing information through online portals, periodic reports and open dialogue forums. The strategic movement, in the form of a persuasive strategy, balances predictable information (predictability) and interesting new information (novelty) through regular meetings, thereby increasing community understanding and support for the project. Stakeholder mapping is also used to identify the needs and roles of each stakeholder, so that communication strategies can be adjusted to their expectations. The strategy of totality and praxis, through dialogue strategies, maintains certainty and brings uncertainty closer by involving a neutral third party for mediation, ensuring fair and transparent communication. The research results show that this communication strategy strengthens relationships between companies and communities and creates a solid foundation for the success of geothermal projects

Abstract

This article critically examines the practice of "Budi Pekerti" (character education) in schools in Batam, Indonesia, by analyzing it as a form of civil religion and symbolic ritual. Drawing on personal experiential reflection and theoretical frameworks from Clifford Geertz, Émile Durkheim, Pierre Bourdieu, and Jean Baudrillard, the study reveals a fundamental paradox: instead of fostering genuine morality, the ritualized and compulsory nature of these activities often produces false obedience and performative conformity. The analysis identifies key failures, including the erosion of intrinsic meaning (ritual failure), the prioritization of administrative compliance over ethical internalization, and the reinforcement of social hierarchies and biases. Furthermore, for Generation Z, these practices are often perceived as empty liturgies, leading to disenchantment. The study concludes that the institutionalization of moral values through coercive, standardized rituals results in a "pseudo-morality," where symbols replace substance and performance trumps authentic ethical commitment. It argues for a reimagining of moral education that prioritizes critical reflection, personal autonomy, and authentic lived experience over rigid ceremonial formalism.
