Abstract

Understanding the immune response to COVID-19 is critical to help develop appropriate management. Understand the description and response of the immune system that is formed in humans through COVID-19 infection. Conduct a critical review of research journals on the immune response to SARS-CoV-19. Search for articles in research journal databases using the keywords COVID-19, SARS-CoV-2, and Immunity. COVID-19 patients have increased serum cytokine levels (TNFα, IL-2, IL-6, IL-10, IFNγ) compared with healthy patients. IL-6, IL-10, and CRP increased significantly with disease severity. The number of T cells decreases in COVID-19 patients, especially those who are more severe. There were no significant differences in antibody titers based on gender, age, or BMI in post-vaccine individuals. Smokers had significantly lower antibody titers after the second dose of vaccination. COVID-19 patients experience a decrease in the number of lymphocytes and an increase in CRP and cytokines such as TNFα, IL-2, IL-6, IL-10, and IFNγ, especially in severe cases. A positive correlation exists between CRP and IL-10. The number of T cells such as CD4+T and CD8+T also decreases in COVID-19 patients, especially those who are more severe. This could be a diagnostic and prognostic marker for COVID-19.

Abstract

Myopia is a common vision condition in which a person can see nearby objects clearly, but objects further away are blurry. In Indonesia, the prevalence of refractive errors ranks first, covering 25% of the population or around 55 million people. In December 2019, the novel coronavirus spread rapidly in China and around the world. Social restriction and regional quarantine policies have the potential to limit people from carrying out activities, especially in educational institutions. Purpose: to determine the prevalence of myopia sufferers and their relationship with online learning. Methods: using a total sampling technique with a cross sectional method with 162 respondents. Results: It was found that respondents who used devices for a duration of <4 hours and a distance of <30 cm tended not to experience myopia (P>0.05). By looking at the results obtained through the Chi-Square test, it can be concluded that there is no relationship between online learning and myopia. Conclusion: it can be concluded that there is no relationship between online learning and myopia in active students of FKIK UKRIDA class of 2019 and the prevalence of myopia in active students of FKIK Ukrida class of 2019 is 60.1%.

Abstract

Abstract Active Thyroid Eye Disease (TED) is a medical condition involving swelling of the muscles, tissues, and fats around the eyes. This can lead to serious symptoms including double vision and vision loss. Tepezza (Teprotumumab) is an innovative therapy that inhibits the insulin-like growth factor 1 receptor (IGF-1R) and has been approved for TED treatment. Teprotumumab works by reducing inflammation and TED symptoms. Pharmacokinetic studies indicate that this drug can be effectively administered via intravenous infusion. Various studies have shown that teprotumumab can significantly reduce proptosis, diplopia, and clinical activity of TED. This therapy has proven effective in various patient groups, including those with long-standing TED and those unresponsive to other treatments. Teprotumumab holds a promising breakthrough in TED management, improving the quality of life for individuals affected by this disease. Further studies are needed to fully understand the mechanism and potential of teprotumumab in TED treatment.

Abstract

Cockroach is one of the types of insects that exists everywhere. Cockroach can live in a lot of places, such as the gutter, the trash, and even in the bathroom. Cockroach is one of the agents that is responsible for the spreading of diseases such as diarrhea, dysentery and cholera in children. In Indonesia, there exists a lot of different types of cockroach, one of it is the German Cockroach or Blattella germanica L., and the cockroach problem in Indonesia is mainly handled by using chemicals insecticides, this happens because there’s a lot and its commonly found in a lot of places. Pyrethroid based chemicals insecticides are one of the most common chemical insecticides used by the public. These chemical insecticides have various kinds of adverse effects because they leave residues that can be inhaled by humans and also consumed by humans through food products. Some of the effects of chemical insecticides are diseases of the liver, kidneys, and also problems with the central nervous system. Therefore, an alternative solution is needed in dealing with the cockroach problems in Indonesia, namely Bioinsecticides. Bioinsecticides are insecticides made using natural ingredients without the addition of chemical substances. Ginger is one of the spices that can be found anywhere, in ginger there are compounds called flavonoids, and these compounds can be used as bioinsecticides. Bioinsecticides are made by taking the ginger extract then putting the extract into a spray bottle according to the dose using a pasteur pipette.

Abstract

Bacteria are one of the component parts in every ecosystem. Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) is a normal surface flora of the human body, as a temporary contaminant on inanimate objects such as clothing, cutlery and doorknobs, but also a oportunistic even pathogen on the host. The mutated strain of S. aureus has a cross-resistant strain against all antibiotics of the Beta Lactam, Methicillin, Oxacillin and Flucloxacillin groups, called Methicillin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). This research is needed because MRSA is a strain of bacteria that can be everywhere, especially in public facilities, such as doorknobs, which can be a place of transmission (transfer) of bacteria from one host to another. The samples in this study were taken by swabbing from the door handle in building X, Jakarta. A total of 62 samples were then cultured on Mannitol Salt Agar (MSA) media, the growing isolate was tested by Gram staining, catalase test, and mannitol. Isolate suspected of Staphylococcus aureus, ascertained whether MRSA strain using 30 μg antibiotic C efoxitin (fox) disc. The results of this study showed that 58 (87%) isolates were Staphylococcus aureus and sensitive to C efoxitin antibiotics, 8 (13%) isolates, mnitol test negative, sensitive to Ceroxitin antibiotics. The study concluded that the bacterial isolate found was Staphylococcus aureus sensitive methicillin (MSSA), no MRSA was found.

Abstract

Stress can be experienced by anyone. The number of events is increasing every year. This isevidenced from the results of Basic Health Research in 2013 and 2018, namely an increase in theprevalence of mental emotional disorders in Indonesian population aged ≥ 15 years from 6percent to 9.8 percent. Stress can have a negative impact on the human body both physically andpsychologically. One of the effects of stress on the body is constipation. Unfortunately not muchliterature discusses stress and constipation in more detail. This study aims to determine whetherthere is a relationship between stress levels and constipation in the seventh semester students ofthe 2016 Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences at Ukrida. This research uses analytic studymethod with cross-sectional approach. Sampling is done by consecutive sampling method. Thestudy was conducted in December 2019 at the Ukrida’s medical campus. 150 out of 206 studentsof 2016 from Ukrida Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences who are in their seventh semester, are included in the inclusion criteria. The research material is primary data in the form of aConstipation Scoring System questionnaire and Perceived Stress Scale. The results showed arelationship between stress levels and constipation. This was obtained from the Chi Square testcalculation which was calculated using the SPSS computer program, where the p value was 0.01(p <0.05).

Abstract

Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAP) requires good evaluation to reduce amputation rate. The aim of this study is to assess non-invasive detection methods in evaluating microvascular conditions in PAP. The potential use of Near Infrared Spectroscopy (NIRS) in identifying disorders in patients with PAP, either with or without DM, was also assessed. A systematic literature search was conducted through PUBMED until October 2023. Based on the literature review, it can be concluded that the use of NIRS in evaluating microvascular status in PAP is a non-invasive testing method that has expanded its role. Evaluation with NIRS provides metrics such as recovery time, deoxygenation, oxygen consumption (VO2), tissue oxygen saturation (StO2), total haemoglobin (HbT), and oxyhemoglobin area under the curve (O2 HbAUC). NIRS also has the potential to assist multidisciplinary teams in treating high-risk patients, especially in diabetic patients whose symptoms are compensated by peripheral neuropathy. This study shows that NIRS can be used as a useful tool in evaluating microvascular status in PAP, by providing important information that can be used to optimise patient care and prevent more serious complications. It is concluded that NIRS can be used as a tool to evaluate the effectiveness of treatment and prevent worsening of the condition of patients with PAP in diabetic foot.

Abstract

Vernal conjunctivitis is a rare allergic eye disease, usually affecting children in the prepubertal years and can last between 5 to 10 years. Treatment of this condition is often challenging, requiring effective therapies to reduce symptoms. This literature review, conducted between 2015 and 2023, aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of fluorometholone steroid use in the treatment of pediatric vernal conjunctivitis. Recent studies comparing the effectiveness of Fluorometholone 0.1% in the treatment of Vernal Keratoconjunctivitis (VKC) were analyzed. The results showed that Fluorometholone was effective compared to Cyclosporine in reducing VKC symptoms. However, the use of Fluorometholone should be done with caution due to potential side effects such as increased intraocular pressure and risk of infection.Fluorometholone is an effective treatment option for vernal conjunctivitis in children. However, it is important to have close monitoring by an ophthalmologist to avoid serious side effects. With careful monitoring and proper dose adjustment, Fluorometholone can be a safe and effective therapy in managing this condition.
