Abstract

This study examines the implementation and contextual relevance of the CRT approach in Indonesian senior high school Physics education. Employing a qualitative case study design, data were gathered through classroom observations and systematic document analyses (RPP and student outputs) from a single subject at State Senior High School 10 Makassar. The key results demonstrate that while the teacher achieved high pedagogical fidelity successfully fostering inclusive interactions (Score 5.0) and stimulating critical thinking (Score 4.0) by contextualizing abstract concepts the implementation was structurally incomplete. This resulted in an extreme cultural competence gap, characterized by high teacher effort (Score 4.5) contrasting dramatically with minimal cultural manifestation in student outputs (Score 1.0). This disparity is primarily attributed to a structural weakness in formal assessment design that fails to explicitly demand culturally reflective outcomes, coupled with significant external systemic barriers (50% minimal community participation). The research’s novelty lies in its triangulated, quantitative-qualitative documentation analysis used to precisely measure this 4.5 vs. 1.0 disparity, shifting the scholarly focus from individual capacity to systemic issues. The findings offer crucial practical implications for urgent assessment reform to mandate culturally reflective learning outcomes and emphasize the contribution of strengthening holistic institutional commitment and community partnership to bridge the process-to-outcome gap.

Abstract

This study investigates how sustainability principles can be integrated into English Language Teaching (ELT) to enhance educational quality and foster global citizenship. Adopting a qualitative integrative literature review design, we synthesized findings from 35 publications (2013–2025). It includes two recent systematic reviews and a case study to identify pedagogical strategies, challenges, and outcomes of incorporating sustainability in ELT. The results reveal a range of practical approaches, including Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) curricula, project-based learning centered on the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), eco-critical language awareness activities, and targeted teacher training. These approaches were found to enhance language proficiency while increasing learners’ sustainability awareness and engagement. However, significant challenges remain, notably a lack of appropriate teaching resources and teacher preparedness, as well as misalignment between sustainability topics and traditional language curriculum goals. As a novel contribution, this study proposes a synthesized framework for embedding sustainability into ELT, along with evidence-based recommendations to overcome implementation barriers. In practical terms, integrating sustainability content and practices in ELT engages students with real-world issues, fostering critical thinking and global citizenship skills alongside language development. The study’s findings offer new insights by explicitly linking ELT to Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) goals and provide ELT professionals with concrete strategies to help build a more sustainable future through language education.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of group counseling utilizing the “Cope with the Feeling of Being Overwhelmed” technique in improving student engagement at SMP Muhammadiyah 57 Medan. Employing an experimental pretest-posttest control group design, the research divided subjects into an experimental group receiving the counseling intervention and a control group that did not. Data were collected using a validated and reliable student engagement questionnaire and analyzed statistically. The results demonstrated a significant increase in engagement within the experimental group, with a pretest-posttest significance value of 0.000. Furthermore, a significant difference (p=0.007) was found between the experimental and control groups, confirming the intervention’s efficacy. The novelty of this research lies in applying and empirically validating this specific therapeutic technique within a school counseling context to directly target engagement. A key practical implication is that school counselors can adopt this structured group counseling technique as a proven, alternative strategy to actively help students manage overwhelming feelings and thereby foster higher academic participation. This study contributes by providing empirical evidence for a practical counseling method and offering a replicable framework for enhancing student engagement through targeted emotional coping strategies in educational settings.

Abstract

Social media addiction among middle school students is a serious issue that negatively impacts their academic, social, and emotional functions. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of group counseling with the positive practice overcorrection technique in reducing the level of social media addiction. The research design uses a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest, with eight middle school students selected purposively based on high addiction scores. The intervention was conducted through 4–6 group counseling sessions. Data were collected using a social media addiction questionnaire and analyzed with a Paired Sample T-Test after meeting the Shapiro-Wilk normality assumption. The results showed a significant decrease in addiction levels, with the average pretest score of 73.88 (SD = 1.458) dropping to 47.88 (SD = 8.899) in the posttest, t(7) = 8.855, p < .001. Cohen’s dz effect size = 3.13 indicates a very large effect. These findings demonstrate that group counseling with the overcorrection technique is an effective and applicable intervention for reducing social media addiction among middle school students. The novelty of this study lies in the integration of the overcorrection technique into the dynamics of group counseling, which is rarely explored in the context of adolescent digital addiction. Practically, it provides school counselors with an evidence-based, structured intervention protocol. This contributes to the counseling literature by demonstrating a potent, applicable strategy for mitigating a significant contemporary behavioral issue in educational settings.

Abstract

The suitability of rice varieties to agroclimatic conditions is a key factor in determining rice productivity in Indonesia. Climate variability and land limitations require a decision support system capable of assisting farmers in selecting rice varieties suitable for local environmental conditions. This study aims to develop an integrated artificial intelligence-based system that combines YOLOv9 for image-based rice variety recognition and Naïve Bayes for climate suitability prediction based on temperature and humidity parameters. Image data of five rice varieties Ciherang, Inpari 32, Inpari Nutrizinc, Mekongga, and Baroma were collected directly from agricultural fields in Bandung Regency and processed through annotation, augmentation, and model training stages. The YOLOv9 model performed well in distinguishing rice varieties with relatively similar morphological characteristics, with an mAP@50 value of 0.8932. Meanwhile, the Naïve Bayes model achieved 78% accuracy in predicting climate suitability based on altitude, temperature, and humidity, and produced predictions consistent with agronomic recommendations. Both models were then integrated into a Gradio-based interactive interface to facilitate use by non-technical users. The results indicate that this integrated approach has the potential to be an effective decision support system for assisting in the selection of rice varieties that are adaptive to microclimate conditions, thereby supporting more efficient and sustainable rice cultivation practices.
