Abstract

This study critically examines the political intervention of the central government in Indonesia’s educational autonomy, focusing on the frequent changes in the national curriculum. Education, seen as a fundamental asset in fostering national potential, should be developed in a decentralized manner, allowing educational institutions the freedom to adapt to modern demands. However, the Indonesian government's use of the National Education System Law as a political tool has resulted in centralized policy enforcement, particularly in curriculum design, which often disregards regional needs. This research employs a qualitative approach, utilizing document analysis of legislative texts, historical records, and government policies to investigate the political influence on curriculum changes from 1947 to 2022. The findings show that the curriculum has been revised 11 times under political pressure, with both positive and negative outcomes. On the positive side, the curriculum updates ensure that students receive contemporary knowledge, but on the negative side, the frequent changes have caused confusion among teachers, negatively impacting student performance. This study highlights the complexity of political intervention in education and its implications for teaching and learning in Indonesia.

Abstract

The politicization of the teaching profession by local governments is a phenomenon that has sparked debate in the context of education in Indonesia. This research aims to investigate the practice of politicization of the teaching profession by the Regional Government of Banyuasin III Regency. Case studies were conducted to gain an in-depth understanding of how this politicization occurs, its impact on teachers, students, and the education system as a whole, as well as the efforts made to overcome or minimize this practice. Qualitative research methods were used, including in-depth interviews with teachers, government officials, and other stakeholders, as well as analysis of policy documents and related secondary data. The research results show that the politicization of the teaching profession in Banyuasin III Regency is reflected in various aspects, ranging from teacher placement based on political affiliation to political influence in curriculum development. This has led to instability in the educational environment, inequality in educational opportunities, and a decline in the overall quality of education. However, there are efforts from a number of parties to combat the politicization of the teaching profession, including through community advocacy, developing independent teachers, and strengthening supervision mechanisms. Political intervention by city governments is often seen as an effort to improve the quality of education, but in practice, this intervention can give rise to various problems and challenges. This research uses qualitative methods with a case study approach in several cities in Indonesia to explore the impact and implications of political intervention on the education system. The research results show that political intervention can influence education policies, budget allocations, and decision-making processes in schools. Apart from that, this intervention also has an impact on the quality of education received by students and the professionalism of teaching staff. This research concludes that although the intention of political intervention is to improve the education system, its implementation needs to be carried out carefully, considering the possible long-term impacts.

Abstract

As times progress, technology continues to bring changes to life, particularly in the field of education, which will constantly evolve. Educational planning in the era of disruption faces significant challenges due to the rapid and dynamic advancement of technology. Disruption, marked by digital technological progress, global economic changes, and shifts in labor market demands, has fundamentally altered the educational landscape. The main challenges in educational planning include adapting curricula to be relevant to the needs of Industry 4.0, improving digital literacy, and developing critical and creative thinking skills. Additionally, ensuring the sustainability of the education system in responding to rapid changes is a challenge, especially regarding the gap in access to technology across different regions. On the other hand, educational planning must also consider the challenges related to the changing learning behaviors of students, who are increasingly dependent on technology, as well as the importance of strengthening the role of educators in facing these changes. Therefore, educational planning in the era of disruption requires an adaptive, innovative, and future-oriented approach to ensure that the education system remains relevant and inclusive in addressing global challenges.

Abstract

In the digital era, Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) are undergoing significant changes in their educational system, particularly in integrating traditional pesantren curricula with formal state education. Some pesantren choose to maintain traditional practices, while others transform into modern pesantren by adopting technology and science-based curricula without abandoning traditional values. This study aims to explore the dynamics of pesantren transformation in the face of digitalization challenges and the implementation of Law No. 18 of 2019 on Pesantren. A qualitative approach with content and descriptive analysis was used. Data were obtained from literature, including journals, books, theses, and relevant documents related to the educational traditions of pesantren and the development of digitalization. The findings indicate that pesantren, as religious-based educational institutions, now face significant challenges in integrating technology without losing the Islamic values that characterize them. Traditional pesantren, which still maintain old methods, must adapt to the demands of the times, while modern pesantren have implemented technology in teaching, such as e-learning and social media, to expand access to knowledge. In facing the digital era, pesantren are also required to strengthen human resource capacity, develop quality digital content, and establish collaborations with digital education institutions to enrich the learning experience of their students. External challenges, such as the influence of materialistic culture, technological developments, and changes in social systems, also affect the existence of pesantren in the globalized era. This study recommends the importance of pesantren building digital literacy and producing moderate and tolerant Islamic literature through the use of technology.

Abstract

Laissez-faire management is a leadership style that grants full autonomy to team members in decision-making and task execution. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of implementing laissez-faire management in educational institutions. The research employs a qualitative approach through literature review analysis. The findings reveal that this management style offers advantages, such as fostering creativity, innovation, individual independence, and enhancing personal responsibility among teachers. However, improper implementation may result in a lack of guidance, coordination, and accountability, negatively affecting educational quality. Factors such as school culture, teacher characteristics, facilities, and policy support significantly influence the effectiveness of this management style. This study recommends that educational leaders combine laissez-faire elements with other approaches to achieve an optimal balance between autonomy and supervision.

Abstract

Education has a very important role in maintaining the value of the nation and giving birth to quality individuals who are competitive in various fields. Educational institutions as institutions that organize the educational process need to be able to adapt to the times, especially in facing the challenges of the digital era which is full of disruption. Disruption in education is related to rapid technological changes, increasingly diverse ways of learning, and increasingly open access to information. This phenomenon requires educational institutions to adjust to remain relevant. One strategy that can be applied to deal with the era of disruption is contingency planning. These plans facilitate the rapid adaptation of educational institutions and the mitigation of the impact of disruptions. This research project aims to explore the relevance of contingency planning in the context of educational institutions in the era of disruption. Adopting a descriptive qualitative approach, the research identifies the importance of contingency planning as a strategic tool for educational institutions to survive and operate amidst uncertainty. Contingency plans are considered the optimal solution for dealing with technological disruption, social change, and unexpected events. With a robust contingency plan in place, educational institutions can be better prepared to deal with disruptions and changes that occur more flexibly and effectively.
