Abstract

Multicultural education is an educational approach that values cultural diversity and provides equal opportunities for all individuals, regardless of cultural, ethnic, or religious backgrounds. This concept aims to create awareness of the importance of tolerance, respect for differences, and building social harmony amidst diversity. In the context of Islamic educational philosophy, multicultural education can be seen as an effort to realize social justice and balance rooted in Islamic principles, such as brotherhood, justice, and equality. Islamic educational philosophy emphasizes the importance of holistic human potential development, both in intellectual, moral, and spiritual aspects, which aligns with the values of multiculturalism. The urgency of implementing multicultural education in Indonesia is highly relevant in the development of nationalism, especially considering that Indonesia is a country with great diversity in terms of ethnicity, religion, and culture. Multicultural education can be an important instrument for strengthening national unity, reducing the potential for intergroup conflicts, and building awareness of an inclusive national identity. In this context, multicultural education plays a role in fostering mutual respect among ethnic and religious groups, as well as promoting nationalism based on appreciation of diversity. The implementation of multicultural education in Indonesia has been carried out through various policies and educational programs. The curriculum in schools has begun to integrate multicultural values, such as tolerance, cooperation, and respect for differences. Additionally, extracurricular activities and cross-cultural programs have also been developed to encourage students to interact with individuals from different cultural backgrounds. However, the implementation of multicultural education in Indonesia still faces various challenges. One of the main challenges is the resistance from groups who feel that multicultural education can threaten certain identities and cultural values. In addition, there are still educational gaps in various regions, which result in a lack of understanding of the importance of multiculturalism in some areas. To address these challenges, several proposed solutions include enhancing training for educators on the importance of multiculturalism and how to integrate it into the teaching and learning process. In addition, there needs to be closer cooperation between the government, educational institutions, and the community to create an inclusive learning environment that values diversity. Policies that support multicultural education also need to be strengthened, including in terms of providing adequate resources for schools in remote areas. From a philosophical perspective, multiculturalism is seen as a manifestation of the recognition and respect for essential human diversity. Islamic philosophy, in particular, emphasizes the importance of living in harmony amidst differences and teaches that all humans are created equal in the eyes of God, despite having different backgrounds. This principle serves as an important foundation for multicultural education that seeks to build bridges between various community groups.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the role of Islamic education philosophy in resolving social conflicts as depicted in the film Tanda Tanya by Hanung Bramantyo. The movie presents a portrait of the life of a pluralistic Indonesian society with diverse religious, cultural, and belief backgrounds, as well as social conflicts that arise from this diversity. This study uses a qualitative research method with a literature study approach, in which literature sources related to the philosophy of Islamic education and related concepts are used as a theoretical basis. The analysis technique used is content analysis, focusing on the depiction of social conflict and resolution in the film and its relevance to the principles in the philosophy of Islamic education, such as the values of tolerance, peace, and social harmony. The results of the analysis show that Islamic education, through the cultivation of values such as mutual respect, openness, and interfaith understanding, can be an effective tool in overcoming social conflicts. The conclusion of this study confirms that the values in Islamic education philosophy have the potential to encourage the creation of a harmonious society and reduce social conflict in a diverse society.

Abstract

Keris is recognized as a cultural heritage that transcends material functions, believed to possess spiritual dimensions such as 'tuah' or 'power.' Existing literature tends to focus on cultural narratives, leaving a gap in the formulation of the ontological essence of the keris's spiritual phenomenon. This study aims to analyze and formulate the spiritual dimension of keris using the framework of Metaphysical Philosophy, especially Ontology and Hylomorphism, and to offer a philosophical interpretative model that can explain the interaction between the material and the spirituality of keris. This qualitative research uses the approach of Metaphysical Philosophy and Philosophical Hermeneutics, with primary data derived from the core concepts of Metaphysics and cultural/ethnographic texts. The main analytical techniques are conceptual-philosophical analysis and hermeneutic description. The research results show that the spiritual dimension of keris can be formulated ontologically. The novelty of this study lies in the proposed Spiritual Keris Hylomorphism Model, which defines the keris as a dual hylomorphic artifact. The 'blessing' of keris is interpreted as the actualization of potential (entelechy) and the Spiritual Form, which is transferred through Non-Physical Efficient Causality (the practices and austerities of the maker). These findings provide a profound theoretical basis for the spiritual aspects of the keris. The conclusion shows that the keris is an entity that manifests the interaction between Material Substance and Non-Physical Substance. This study contributes to the Philosophy of Culture by expanding the scope of Metaphysics to legitimize and analyze local spiritual phenomena.

Abstract

Tradition is a form of culture that is passed down from generation to generation and serves as a marker of social identity. In Java, the acculturation of local culture with Islam since the Walisongo era gave rise to traditions rich in symbolism, one of which is Nyadran. This study aims to analyze the symbolic meanings within the Nyadran tradition in Ngayung Village, Lamongan, and to explain how these symbols represent the integration of Islam and Javanese culture. The research employed a qualitative method with cultural and Islamic anthropological approaches. Data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews with religious leaders, community elders, and local residents, as well as documentation, with validity tested through source triangulation. The findings reveal that Nyadran is divided into two types: the small Nyadran (held before Ramadan) and the large Nyadran (after the second harvest). The main symbols include buffalo slaughter as a representation of cleansing oneself from laziness and ignorance, sticky rice as a symbol of togetherness and gratitude, as well as prayers, tahlil, and religious gatherings reflecting Islamic spirituality. This tradition functions as a medium of social education, reinforcement of solidarity, and maintenance of communal harmony. Thus, Nyadran in Ngayung Village is not only of historical and religious value but also serves as an instrument of integration between Islam and Javanese culture while strengthening the community’s religious and cultural identity.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to investigate the formation of a love of culture in elementary school students taught traditional dance and song singing. This research is based on the fact that internalizing local cultural values from an early age is an important part of sustainable character education. Primary data were obtained through in-depth interviews and observations, as well as secondary data from literature related to character education and culture. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study approach, and data analysis was carried out through descriptive reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. To ensure the validity of the findings, triangulation of sources and techniques was used. The results showed that the mechanisms of habituation, direct experience, and teacher role models formed a love of culture character through regular learning of traditional dance and song singing. Students demonstrated better cultural knowledge, pride in local culture, social skills, discipline, and self-confidence. By combining these two activities, the school environment became more conducive to cultural preservation and character education. These results are consistent with the theory of arts and culture learning (Efland, 2002) and Lickona's (1991) theory of character education. In short, learning the art of dance and singing regional songs is not only a cultural activity, it can also be used as a contextual, sustainable, and successful character teaching strategy to foster students' love of culture.

Abstract

The obligation to follow the Sunnah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ is one of the fundamental pillars of a Muslim’s life. The Sunnah serves as a practical guide that explains, complements, and applies the teachings of the Qur’an in various aspects of life. The implementation of this obligation extends beyond ritual worship, encompassing social, moral, and spiritual dimensions. This study aims to analyze the significance of implementing the Prophet’s Sunnah as a life guideline in shaping Muslims with noble character and a comprehensive Islamic worldview. The method used is a literature review, examining both classical and contemporary sources relevant to the topic. The results indicate that following the Sunnah of the Prophet is not merely an act of obedience, but also a path to achieving happiness in this world and the hereafter, as it reflects the perfection of faith and harmony between words, actions, and intentions. Therefore, the implementation of the obligation to follow the Prophet’s Sunnah should serve as the foundation for building character, social behavior, and an integrated Islamic way of life.
