Abstract

ABSTRACT Long working hours and static working positions among dentists and dental students can increase the risk of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs). Complaints of MSDs often arise as a result of maintaining static working postures for prolonged periods during dental and oral care. This study aimed to determine the relationship between working posture and complaints of MSDs among dental students at the South Sumatra Provincial Dental Hospital. This study employed an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study sample comprised 77 dental students performing treatments in a seated position across all departments at the South Sumatra Provincial Dental Hospital. Work posture assessment was conducted using the Rapid Upper Limb Assessment (RULA), while MSD complaints were measured using the Nordic Body Map questionnaire. Data analysis was performed using the Chi-square test. The results of the Chi-square test showed a p-value < 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant association between work posture and MSD complaints among dental students at the South Sumatra Provincial Dental Hospital. Students with lower ergonomic work posture risk tended to experience fewer MSD complaints. It can be concluded that work posture has a significant association with MSD complaints among dental students. The adoption of ergonomic work postures is important to reduce the risk and incidence of musculoskeletal complaints.

Abstract

Papilledema is swelling of the optic disc due to increased intracranial pressure (ICP) which can cause neurological symptoms such as headache, nausea, vomiting, and progressive visual impairment and can lead to permanent blindness if not treated appropriately. This condition must be differentiated from disc edema due to other etiologies because it has a different pathophysiology and management. This case report discusses a 32-year-old woman who presented with complaints of blurred vision such as shadows in the left eye for five days, accompanied by frontal headache radiating to the retrobulbar, nausea, intermittent fever, and impaired eye movement. Ophthalmological examination showed decreased vision, limited mediolateral movement of both eyes indicating paresis of the sixth nerve, and fundoscopic images of bilateral blurred papilla borders with more severe swelling in the left eye accompanied by hard exudate. The patient was diagnosed with papilledema with diplopia ODS ec. paresis of the sixth nerve and was given supportive therapy in the form of cendo lyteers and mecobalamin as well as regular check-up education. This case emphasizes the importance of early detection of papilledema through history taking, clinical examination, and fundoscopy to prevent permanent visual complications and determine comprehensive and timely management.

Abstract

ABSTRACT  Puskesmas Arjosari Pacitan has developed electronic medical record documentation through the Puskesmas Management Information System and upgraded it into a web-based Electronic Medical Record system in June 2024. This study aimed to evaluate the implementation of Electronic Medical Records in outpatient services and identify supporting and inhibiting factors using the 5M approach, consisting of man, money, machine, method, and material. This research employed a descriptive qualitative method. The main informants were seven users of the system, including medical record officers, administrative staff, nurses, and an outpatient physician, while the head of the public health center served as a triangulation informant. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using data reduction, data display, conclusion drawing, and source triangulation. The findings showed that human resources and material aspects supported the implementation because staff understood the system workflow and the internet network was relatively stable. However, several barriers remained, including limited budget allocation, inadequate hardware availability, the absence of a detailed standard operating procedure, limited access to reporting features, and a suboptimal user interface. This study concludes that financial constraint is the most dominant barrier because it affects hardware procurement, staff training, and system development. Therefore, Puskesmas Arjosari needs dedicated budget planning, stronger technological infrastructure, a specific standard operating procedure, and improved coordination with the vendor to ensure effective and sustainable implementation. Keywords: Public Health Center, Electronic Medical Records, Outpatient Services, Implementation Evaluation, 5M Factors

Abstract

ABSTRACTEye strain (asthenopia) is a common complaint resulting from the increasing use of digital devices. Data from the World Health Organization (WHO) indicate that the global prevalence of asthenopia ranges from 75% to 90%. The growing use of smartphones, particularly among university students, has the potential to increase the risk of this condition. This study aims to analyze the relationship between smartphone usage characteristics—namely viewing distance, duration of use, and usage position—and the occurrence of eye strain among students. This research employed an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 209 students selected through proportionate stratified random sampling. Data were collected using a smartphone usage questionnaire and the Visual Fatigue Index (VFI), and subsequently analyzed using the chi-square test with a 95% confidence level. The results showed that 78% of respondents experienced eye strain. There was a significant relationship between viewing distance (p=0.001), duration of use (p=0.001), and smartphone usage position (p=0.001) and the incidence of eye strain. In conclusion, ergonomic factors related to smartphone use play an important role in the development of eye strain. Education on proper device usage is necessary to minimize the risk of eye health problems. Keywords: distance, duration, smartphone, eye strain

Abstract

ABSTRACTType 2 diabetes mellitus is a group of chronic metabolic diseases characterized by hyperglycemia, which requires ongoing medical care and reduction of risk factors. Compliance with treatment in diabetic patients is a major factor in controlling blood sugar levels, so that it can affect treatment outcomes. Nutritional status is one of the problems that play a role in Diabetes Mellitus because type 2 diabetes mellitus patients with more nutritional status tend to have higher blood sugar levels than patients with normal nutritional status. This type of research is an analytic observational study using a cross-sectional design. The number of samples in this study were 120 samples. The sampling method in this study used a consecutive sampling technique. Based on the results on the variables of medication adherence with blood sugar levels, the results of bivariate analysis showed that there was a significant relationship between medication adherence and blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients at the Plaju Health Center. While the results on the variable nutritional status and blood sugar levels show that there is a significant relationship between nutritional status and blood sugar levels in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients at the Plaju Health Center. Keywords : Medication Adherence, Nutritional Status, Blood Sugar Levels, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract

Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) are widely used as cognitive assessment tools in medical education due to their efficiency and objectivity. The quality of MCQs is strongly influenced by the alignment between examination planning through blueprinting and the empirical performance of test items evaluated using item analysis. This study aimed to examine the alignment between the examination blueprint and item analysis results as indicators of MCQ instrument validity. This study employed a descriptive observational quantitative design with a retrospective approach. Data were obtained from examination blueprint documents and MCQ test results from the most recent block examination conducted at the Medical Study Program, Faculty of Medicine, Universitas Muhammadiyah Palembang. A total of 150 MCQ items were analyzed using statistical software to calculate difficulty index, discrimination index, and internal reliability measured by Cronbach’s alpha coefficient. The results demonstrated that most items were classified within the moderate difficulty category (47.33%), with relatively balanced proportions of difficult and easy items. Item discrimination analysis revealed that 70.67% of items showed good discrimination (?0.30), although 29.33% of items demonstrated fair to poor discrimination. The internal reliability of the examination instrument was very high, with a Cronbach’s alpha value of 0.91. In conclusion, the alignment between the examination blueprint and item analysis findings supports the validity and reliability of the MCQ assessment instrument. Nevertheless, continuous evaluation and revision of items, particularly those with low discrimination indices, are recommended to enhance the overall quality of assessment.

Abstract

Babies born weighing less than the 10th percentile for their gestational age are considered Small for Gestational Age (SGA), which increases the risk of health problems and death. Preeclampsia, a condition marked by high blood pressure after 20 weeks of pregnancy, is linked to SGA by reducing blood flow to the placenta, affecting the baby's growth. This study aimed to explore the relationship between preeclampsia and SGA infants at Fatimah General Hospital in Lamongan using observational analysis with a cross-sectional approach. The study included mothers with certain medical records from January to December 2024. Out of 1,536 mothers, 239 had preeclampsia, and 242 infants were SGA. The majority of babies from mothers with preeclampsia were SGA, compared to those without preeclampsia. The study found a strong connection between preeclampsia and SGA and highlighted the need for better education for pregnant women, regular check-ups, and improved teamwork among healthcare providers to manage high-risk pregnancies.
