Abstract

Globalization has increased cross-border labor mobility, including Indonesian female workers working in Australia. Differences in work culture and social environment become major challenges in the adaptation process. This study aims to analyze the cultural adaptation experiences of Indonesian female workers in Australia within a multicultural work environment using the U-Curve theory approach. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method through semi-structured interviews with one informant who has worked in Australia for 1.4 years in a meat packing factory. The data were analyzed using a thematic descriptive approach based on the U-Curve stages. The results show that the informant experienced stages of cultural adaptation including honeymoon, culture shock, adjustment, and mastery. The main challenges include differences in communication style, individualistic attitudes, and work pressure. However, through openness and mental resilience, the informant was able to adapt successfully.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of the presence of PT Toba Agro Mandiri on the livelihoods of the community in Pohan Julu Village, Siborong-borong District, North Tapanuli Regency. The establishment of the company has brought socio-economic changes to the local community, particularly in relation to employment opportunities and sources of income. Prior to the company's presence, most residents depended on traditional agriculture as their main livelihood. This research aims to analyze the changes in community livelihoods following the operation of the company and to identify the factors that influence the community in responding to these changes. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation involving community members and relevant stakeholders. The findings indicate that the presence of PT Toba Agro Mandiri has both positive and negative impacts on the community. Positive impacts include increased income for landowners through land leasing, the availability of new employment opportunities, and the emergence of supporting economic activities. However, negative impacts were also identified, such as unequal access to employment opportunities, social disparities between landowners and non-landowners, and a gradual shift away from traditional agricultural practices. These findings highlight the importance of more inclusive employment opportunities and community empowerment programs to ensure that the benefits of the company's presence can be distributed more evenly among the local community.

Abstract

Formal education systems are often trapped in rigid standardization that actually shackles students' creativity and personal uniqueness. This issue raises questions about the extent to which individual freedom is accommodated in modern curricula that tend to be pragmatic. Departing from this issue, this study aims to explore the relevance of Jean-Jacques Rousseau's Romanticism which prioritizes affection and the general will in the context of education. Rousseau argued that the development of science and culture often acts as a chain that restrains humans, thus he proposed the concept of natural education that allows children's instincts to develop freely without damaging cultural intervention. Using qualitative methods based on literature review, this research identified a strong common ground between Rousseau's vision and Indonesia's Freedom to Learn policy. The study reveals that both share a common philosophical foundation: restoring educational sovereignty to institutions and students, allowing them to independently develop their potential, talents, and interests. Therefore, synchronizing Rousseau's ideas with Freedom to Learn serves as a crucial foundation for creating a higher-quality and more humane national education ecosystem.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between organizational culture and the sustainability of public service innovation within government bureaucracy. Although many public service innovations show positive results in the initial stages, many do not sustain in the long term. This indicates the presence of fundamental factors affecting innovation sustainability, one of which is organizational culture. Organizational culture plays a role in shaping the behavior, values, and work methods of civil servants in providing services to the public. This study aims to analyze the role of organizational culture in supporting or hindering the sustainability of public service innovations. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach, this study analyzes 20 relevant scientific articles from 2002 to 2025. The results indicate that hierarchical, rigid, and administratively-oriented organizational cultures hinder innovation sustainability. Other factors such as low leadership support, limited incentives, and resistance to change also strengthen these barriers. Conversely, an open, collaborative, and adaptive organizational culture to change enhances the likelihood of innovation sustainability. In conclusion, the success of public service innovations is greatly influenced by the organizational culture underlying the behavior of civil servants. Therefore, transforming organizational culture to be more innovative and adaptive is a strategic step to strengthen the sustainability of innovation.

Abstract

The phenomenon of globalization is rapidly expanding and influencing nearly every aspect of life. Foreign cultures are entering Indonesia through various digital platforms. If left unchecked, these external cultural influences could erode the nation’s identity and history. This study examines how cultural heritage and national history are increasingly being eroded by globalization, with a primary focus on the role of the digital age as a catalyst for this acceleration. The researcher employed a literature review method using a qualitative-descriptive approach. The results of the analysis are clear: the erosion of Indonesia’s cultural identity has been categorized as a non-traditional threat. This is multidimensional, transcends national borders, involves global digital corporations, and is now recognized as a threat to national security. Social media and digital platform algorithms accelerate this process, particularly among Gen Z. Ali Khamenei’s thoughts on cultural warfare are highly relevant for understanding the current situation. The impacts span numerous aspects from social stability, ideology, and the economy to politics and defense. The researchers recommend that the government strengthen cross-sectoral coordination, expand the BPIP and DPPI programs into the digital realm, revitalize cultural and history curricula, and promote local culture through more innovative methods on digital platforms.

Abstract

This study examines young people’s perceptions of the Free Nutritious Meal Program (Makan Bergizi Gratis/MBG) and its impact on public trust in the government. The MBG program is one of the Indonesian government’s strategic policies aimed at improving nutritional quality, particularly for students, while supporting social welfare and human resource development toward Indonesia Emas 2045. In the digital era, social media plays a significant role in shaping public opinion, especially among Generation Z, who actively consume and disseminate information through online platforms. This research employed a qualitative descriptive approach with in-depth interviews, social media observations, and documentation studies as data collection techniques. The participants consisted of young people aged 18–25 years in Bandar Lampung selected through purposive sampling. The findings indicate that most informants perceive the MBG program positively because it is considered relevant to community needs, particularly in improving children’s nutrition and supporting economically vulnerable groups. However, public trust in the government remains conditional due to concerns regarding transparency, uneven distribution, food quality, and program supervision. The study also reveals that young people distinguish between support for the program itself and trust in the government as an institution. Positive perceptions of the program can increase political trust, but implementation weaknesses may reduce confidence in government performance. Therefore, transparency, consistency, and effective public communication are essential factors in strengthening public trust and ensuring the sustainability of the MBG program.

Abstract

Bintan Regency, as a coastal area with a strategic geographical location as an international shipping route, is vulnerable to marine pollution caused by oil spills. Repeated incidents throughout 2023-2025 show that this problem has not been resolved. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effectiveness of the implementation of MARPOL Annex I as a regulation that prevents pollution caused by oil spills at sea, particularly in Bintan Regency. This study identifies gaps in the implementation of regulations at the national level and formulates a more integrated form of prevention through strengthened supervision and the application of technology. The method used is a qualitative descriptive method through a literature review approach, with secondary data from scientific journals, articles, media reports, YouTube, and other supporting documents related to the incident. The results of the study show that: first, mitigation efforts are still focused on post-spill responses, such as manual cleanup involving institutions and the community. Second, weak border patrols make it difficult to find the perpetrators. Third, Bintan Regency has not utilized technology such as blockchain as a potential tool that can help prove ship compliance with MARPOL Annex I. Although MARPOL Annex I has been implemented in accordance with national regulations, its implementation has proven ineffective as spills continue to recur to this day. Therefore, changes are needed in terms of prevention through integrated maritime surveillance and the introduction of digital technology for reporting ship compliance with MARPOL Annex I in the Bintan Regency area.

Abstract

Social media has become the primary source of information for society, but easy access is not accompanied by adequate digital literacy skills. this study aims to analyze the phenomenon of “asking before reading” as a challenge of literacy on social media. the method used is a literature study with secondary data from scientific journal references and screenshots of user comments on instagram, tiktok, and facebook showing behavior of asking questions without reading the caption first. the results show that the habit of asking before reading is triggered by instant culture, dominance of visual content, and low reading interest. the impacts are decreased critical thinking skills, increased risk of misunderstanding, and spread of unverified information. the conclusion of this study confirms that the phenomenon reflects low digital literacy in society. the proposed solutions are improving digital literacy by encouraging users to read post descriptions, the role of educational institutions in instilling critical thinking from an early age, and clearer content from content creators and platform managers.
