Abstract

The Act of The Republic of Indonesia Number 7 of 1996 on Food mentioned that every label and or advertisement concerning food to be sold must mention information concerning the food correctly and not misleading. The government shall regulate, supervise and the measure which are needed, in order that an advertisement concerning food which is sold does not contain information which may be misleading. This cross-sectional study was conducted to Identify legislation related to food advertisement. Primary data collection by means of indepth interviews and Round Table Discussion (RTD), as well as secondary data collection concerning institusional report and monitoring documentation has been used. The data were analysed qualitatively. The findings indicate that monitoring of food advertisement only at the provincial level. Monitoring of Processed foodstuff advertisement by testimony in broadcast media, inset in the event program at television and advertising on the Internet is not optimal and it’s required cross-sectoral coordination.

Abstract

Emergence of drug resistance in a fungal infection therapy had driven the need for a search of a new therapeutic agent. Traditional approach is now being marked by most people to combat this resistance problem. Plants can acts as a source of antimicrobial agents. Eclipta alba,L. Hassk leaves has been traditionally used to cure skin illnesses caused by fungal infection. The aim of this study is to analyze the antidermatophytic activity of Eclipta alba, L. Hassk leaves extract against Trichophyton mentagrophytes. Eclipta alba (L.) Hassk leaves were extracted gradually with hexane, ethyl acetate, ethanol and water. A serial concentration 0 mg/ml, 12,5 mg/ml, 25 mg/ml, 50 mg/ml and 100 mg/ml of those four fraction was made subsequently. The antidermatophytic activity was done by gel diffusion method. Zone of inhibition was measured and analyzed with ANOVA continued with DMRT (Duncan Multiple Range Test). The antifungal test showed that hexane, ethyl acetate and ethanolic extract of Eclipta alba, L. Hassk leaves were effective to inhibit the growth of Trichophyton mentagrophytes but not significantly different (p≥0,05). Water extract showed no inhibition on Trichophyton mentagrophytes

Abstract

Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) is widely used since 1947 as antioxidant food additives used to prevent oils, fats and shortenings from oxidative deterioration and rancidity. It has been extensively studied for potential activities and its toxicities. This review summarized experimental studies that had been carried out on animals and humans as well. We also briefly reviewed about its absorptions, metabolisms, excretions and carcinogenicity from health perspective. At present there is sufficient evidence for carcinogenicity of BHA, but there is hardly any indication that BHA is genotoxic. Keywords: Butylated hydroxyanisole, Additive, Ef

Abstract

Insufficient breast milk intake from a mother to their babies may cause a poor infant growth. We have conducted a research on mixture of klabet seed extracts (Trigonella foenum-graecum L.) and kelor leaf extract (Moringa oleifera Lamk.) (1:1) for increasing breast milk production in nursing mothers and nutritional supplement for infants. The study is a completely randomized design. We used white rats (Rattus novergicus), Wistar strain, as many as 50, that were divided into 5 dose groups for the acute toxicity testing and 40 rats in 4 dose groups for the sub-chronic toxicity testing. The acute toxicity testing of fenugreek seed extracts and moringa leaf extracts (1:1) results in a pseudo value LD50 >4,000 mg/200g bw, therefore we classified the materials to practically non-toxic (PNT). For the subchronic toxicity testing, the result showed a normal state on liver and kidney function.

Abstract

Seahorse (Hippocampus kuda) is known to have a high concentration of iron, taurin and progesteron as testosteron precursor. Seahorse extract can increase the production of testosterone hormone of mice. On the erythrocytes development, kidney is stimulated to release erythropoietin hormone in case of hypoxia and also related with testosterone production. Erythropoietin control erythrocytes development and increase hemoglobin synthesis. The objective of experiment was to study the effect of seahorse extract as supplemented food in optimal concentration in range of 100, 200 and 300 mg/kg body weight on mice’s hematopoiesis and erythropoiesis. Each of treatment groups consist of 5 mices. The observed parameters were hematocrit value, hemoglobin concentration and renal index which observed on day 0, 34 and 67. The result showed that treatment of seahorse protein fraction extract until 300 mg/kg body weight dosage have no effect to the hematocrit value. The 200 mg/kg body weight extract dosage was able to increase the hemoglobin rate measurement. Renal index of Mice on day 34 and 67 after treatment did not give significant difference among treatment and control

Abstract

The incidence of malaria in Indonesia is about two million cases annually. Dihydroartemisinin-piperaquine (DHP) is the first line therapy recommended for uncomplicated malaria treatment, whereas DHP is still fully imported. The generic DHP tablet formulation has the potential to become the first of DHP drug which is locally produced. This study is aimed to formulate generic DHP film coated tablets for antimalaria drug. Tablets were compressed with the combination of wet granulation for piperaquine phosphate (PQP) and direct compression method for DHA and coated with a moisture barier coating material. The parameters to evaluate the quality of DHP tablets are physical properties, assay, and dissolution test. DHA and PQP assay were performed by HPLC method. The dissolution testing was conducted by in house method using HCl 0.1 N medium. The result shows physical properties of filmcoated tablets meet the requirement, i.e. uniform weight, 7.0-8.5 kp hardness, 0.02% friability and 3 minute 22 seconds disintegration. The assay to determine DHA in tablet was 95.17% and PQP was 97.05%. The result of dissolution testing shows the content of DHA and PQP in the tablet were 113.51% and 96.55%, respesctively. The formulation which is developed meets the general requirement of API in tablet 90–110% and dissolution requirement >75%.

Abstract

Influenza viruses are classified into subtypes based on two surface antigens known as hemagglutinin (HA) and neuraminidase (NA). Antigenic changes of influenza virus can cause resistance to antiviral drugs which is already limited in variation. Resistance to the drugs used recently are due to antigenic drift by point mutation in a single amino acid at position 275 (H275Y). The purpose of this research is to identify the presence of influenza virus A (H1N1pdm09) that were resistant to oseltamivir from cases of severe acute respiratory infection (SARI)in Indonesia in 2014 by using a rapid detection test. Detection of oseltamivir resistance in NA gene is to identify the single nucleotide polimorphism (SNP) at position 275 (H275Y) using the real-time RT-PCR method from clinical specimens SARI case. A total of 870 specimens from six sentinel hospitals were collected and 15 of them positive H1N1pdm09. Of the 15 clinical specimens, H1N1pdm09 virus strains that have mutations H275Y were not found. Based on this finding, it can be concluded that during the year 2014, there is no influenza virus A (H1N1pdm09) resistant to oseltamivir from SARI cases specimen in six sentinel hospitals in Indonesia.
