Abstract

The Covid-19 pandemic has dramatically changed how organisations oper- ate, receiving attention by many. Remote working entails new norms, which subsequently transform organisational culture that is central to organisational performance. This research explores how this change shapes organisational values that underpins organisational culture, and its effect on employees’ performance. Using a case study of a SME architectural firm in Bradford, UK, qualitative data was gathered through interviews and secondary data, where data was analysed using thematic analysis method. Synthesis suggests, to preserve the existing values, employers should seek to constantly engage with employees through frequent communications, demonstrate actions in favour of the values and reenforce them through reward and recognition. However, new mechanisms to implement this should be identified, given the new working environment (virtual) and different factors affecting employees’ motivation.

Abstract

The quest for restructuring Nigeria’s federal system has been a frequent tune from most of her citizens. This challenge has created a wide gap in the federation which threatens the sovereignty of the nation. These agitations for secession/disintegration, and restructuring from different strata of the nation have constituted a major threat to Nigerian sovereignty. Hence, the study looks at the make or mar locus confronting Nigeria federal system. Primary and secondary data were used for this study; the primary data were gathered through the use of a questionnaire, while content analysis was used for secondary data. The study revealed some issues involved in the agitation for restructuring which includes among others, the secession of some federating units, the creation of additional states, corruption, leadership crises, and the poor state of the country’s economy. Hence, the study recommends that there is an urgent need to restructure Nigeria’s federalism structure, especially the constitutional review that would involve all ethno- regional entities of the federation to engender equity and equality. The study concludes that until the political leaders reform the institutions and structures of the federal system, Nigeria’s nation may not attain its potential.

Abstract

After the 2014 general election and through 2021, the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) decided to become the executive power’s loyal opposition under President Joko Widodo. PKS’s decision to join an opposition party resulted in a substantial increase in its vote total, from 6.79% in the 2014 election to 8.21% in the 2019 election. There are hints that PKS intends to replicate the strategy employed by the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP), which be- came President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono’s opposition during his two terms in office and won the 2014 election. Using secondary data and qualitative descriptive analysis, this study examines the model and pattern of PKS opposition to the Jokowi administration between 2014 and 2021. This study’s findings indicate that the relationship model between PKS and the government is cooperative rather than antagonistic. As an opposition party under a presidential system, PKS works as a balancer and controller of power through selective rather than universal criticism of government policies and performance.

Abstract

The ASEAN Master Plans for ASEAN Connectivity pursue the easement on the flow of goods, services, and people in the region as it endeavors to create a globally competitive single market and production base. However, data shows a substantial infrastructural gap among member-states with a significant constraint on physical connectivity at the regional level. This stark reality on the infrastructure gap is relevant to the Philippines as it continued to lag behind other ASEAN members on the infrastructure pillar of the World Economic Forum’s Global Competitiveness Index (WorldBank,2018).This paper looks into the domestic affairs of the Philippines in terms of financial capacity, governance scheme, and stability-security situation - and its implications on the country’s infrastructural gap in the ASEAN Region. Content analysis is used in exploring the literature, including ASEAN papers, academic essays, international organizations, government reports, and other related documents. Findings revealed that the Philippines exhibit wide infrastructural gaps that have long compromise edits competitiveness. Specifically, the Philippines faces severe domestic problems such as reduced spending on infrastructural development, coupled with critical institutional challenges and issues on stability and security. This paper argues the primacy of good governance as the precondition for a well-connected and sustainable infrastructure. Hence, reforms should focus on structuring domestic politics to address the infrastructural gaps. Changes may include the adaption of mechanisms to control corruption, ensures effective coordination among agencies, and improves the absorptive capacity in managing and implementing infrastructural projects.

Abstract

This paper aims to explain the social construction of family roles in migrant workers’ income management. Many migrant worker families are unable to manage their income correctly. This social construction would affect the community by giving negative stigma to the families of migrant workers. This research was conducted using a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. The subjects were selected based on proportional sampling, namely people who live close to the families of migrant workers, extended families of migrant workers, and community leaders. The results of this study indicate that, in reality, some couples of migrant worker families can manage their income well, resulting in the income of migrant workers that does not have a meaningful impact on the family. The findings of this study contribute to developing a theory of social construction, where reality is the result of personal understanding, which is used as a shared understanding in the community. This shared understanding gives a new stigma to the reality of migrant worker families. The research limitation is that the data used are only obtained from subject interview data and case observations in the field, so the research findings limitedly describe the study of social construction in general. Future research that can be conducted based on this finding is investigating the effect of poor income management on the increasing migrant workers’ family disharmony.
