Abstract

Scholars are optimistic that social media can enhance the democratic engagement of young adults. This research sought to identify social networking sites' direct and indirect influence (Facebook, Twitter, and TikTok) on students' political participation at San Isidro College through a cognitive communication mediation model analysis. There were three hundred thirty-five respondents through a simple random sampling method. Students' political participation differs based on their motivations for using social networking sites, where social utility ranks first, followed by entertainment, surveillance, and guidance. The study revealed that only social utility motivations have a highly significant direct influence on online political participation. It means that respondents' motivation to use social networking sites to communicate with others directly influences online political participation. Furthermore, guidance and surveillance motivation significantly and indirectly influence online and offline political participation, mainly through news consumption, political expression, political knowledge, and political efficacy. The findings suggest that the desire to know about the opinion of others (guidance) and to find the information they are interested in (surveillance) on social networking sites was significantly influenced by their SNS news consumption, SNS expression, political knowledge, and political efficacy, leading them to participate politically both online and offline. On the other hand, entertainment motivation does not predict political participation.

Abstract

This study aims to analyse the discourse of online motorcycle taxi drivers on social media related to transportation electrification and its impacts on the economy and environment in DKI Jakarta. The main focus of this study is to understand the views, experiences, and interactions of online motorcycle taxi drivers who play an essential role in the urban transportation ecosystem. Using a qualitative approach and the Computer-Assisted Qualitative Data Analysis (CAQDAS) method, this study digs deeper into the discussion on social media about transportation electrification. It describes drivers' challenges, desires, and attitudes regarding green innovation. CAQDAS was chosen because of its ability to manage and analyse large volumes of qualitative data, allowing for the systematic identification of themes and patterns of discourse. The results show that adopting green innovation in the transportation sector, especially online motorcycle taxi electrification is influenced by external pressures such as consumer awareness and government policies, as well as collaboration between technology companies and drivers. Sentiment analysis shows the dominance of positive sentiment from optimistic drivers about cost savings and sustainability, although there are still practical barriers, such as initial costs and limited infrastructure. These findings emphasise the importance of proactive policies in supporting the transition to sustainable and environmentally friendly electric vehicles, considering the needs of drivers, companies, and the public sector. This research contributes to the understanding of factors influencing the adoption of electric transportation among online motorcycle taxi drivers and the economic and environmental implications of the transition.

Abstract

Israel’s massive attacks on public facilities, places of worship, and hospitals in Palestine that have been going on since October 2023 have raised global community solidarity to fight Israel by all means, including by carrying out Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) against products affiliated with Israel. This article aims to explain “Why does the BDS Movement gain widespread support from the Indonesian people to understand this phenomenon, a qualitative descriptive research method was used. Research data were obtained through literature studies of reputable journals published in Scopus and Sinta. Other secondary data were obtained from the official website of the BDS Movement, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and digital news. Primary data were obtained from observations at various McDonald’s and KFC outlets, as well as interviews with several students of elementary school in Yogyakarta. The analysis will be conducted using the Transnational Advocacy Network framework from Margareth Keck and Kathryn Sikkink. The findings of this study indicate that the BDS Movement has gained widespread support in Indonesia because Israel’s actions in committing genocide and colonization of the Palestinian people have violated the principles of humanity stated in the Pancasila and the 1945 Constitution. The BDS Movement is also in line with the Foreign Policy of the Republic of Indonesia which consistently supports the independence of the Palestinian people. The BDS Movement uses social media and mass media as a means of “information politics” so that it has succeeded in raising awareness, social concern and solidarity actions of Indonesian.

Abstract

Digital maturity represents an organization’s ability to adopt and integrate digital technologies into its operations, culture, and strategies. It plays a cru- cial role in navigating digital transformation while maintaining competitive- ness. This study explores how digital maturity serves as a key driver for effi- ciency, innovation, and sustainability. To understand research trends in this field, a bibliometric analysis was conducted covering studies from 2006 to 2024 using data from the Web of Science and Scopus databases. Analytical tools like R and Bibliometric were used to assess publication trends, citation patterns, and keyword co-occurrences. The findings revealed 852 publications on digital maturity, with a significant increase in research output between 2006 and 2023. Countries like Germany, Italy, and the UK emerged as the most active contributors, while Indonesia showed promising growth in this area. Many studies focused on sector-specific digital maturity models, particularly in Industry 4.0 and SMEs. Key research highlighted the importance of strategic alignment, leadership, and stakeholder engagement in achieving digital maturity. Digital maturity plays a pivotal role in driving transformation across various sectors. International collaborations have proven to enhance the impact of research, while sector-specific models help address unique challenges. However, the relationship between digital transformation and sustainability remains complex and requires further exploration. In conclusion, digital maturity is a foundation for transformative growth, enabling efficiency and sustainability. Future research should focus on developing context-specific models, particularly for developing countries, and fostering global collaboration to drive digital transformation forward.

Abstract

The adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in the public sector is catalyzing global digital transformation. In Indonesia, despite the policy push for digitization, AI implementation faces unique challenges influenced by the dynamics of institutional pressures. This study aims to uncover the influence of coercive, mimetic, and normative pressures on AI adoption in Jabar Digital Services (JDS) and identify barriers and opportunities that arise in the local context. Using a qualitative approach with a case study design, data were obtained through semi-structured interviews, focus group discussions, and analysis of official documents. Thematic analysis was conducted to identify key patterns that reflect institutional dynamics in AI implementation. The findings of this study reveal that the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) in Jabar Digital Services (JDS) is driven by a complex synergy between three types of institutional pressures. Coercive pressure, reflected through political pressures and leadership role, is considered to strongly encourage AI adoption. On the other hand, mimetic pressure encourages JDS to adopt best practices from developed countries from the perspective of frameworks, case studies, and international AI maturity models. Meanwhile, normative pressure arising from the expectations of the five pillars of pentahelix stakeholders including academia, private sector, government, community, and media increases the urgency of AI adoption. The synergy between coercive, mimetic, and normative pressures not only drives digital transformation and contextual approaches in JDS. This research extends the understanding of institutional isomorphism theory in developing countries and provides strategic recommendations for policymakers to integrate global practices with contextual customization to achieve effective digital transformation.

Abstract

This study aims to map the issue of sand mining conflict in the Special Region of Yogyakarta (DIY). Illegal mining in DIY has caused a significant impact on environmental damage, creating a water crisis and changing natural vegetation. Within thirteen years, the issue of illicit mining in DIY has not been resolved due to slow policies and responses. This study uses a qualitative method to map the issue of illegal mining and the impacts caused, and it uses Nvivo as an analysis tool to map the issue of illicit mining in DIY. The results of this study answer that illegal mining in DIY is grouped into conflict issues, causes of conflict, impacts of conflict, and conflict resolution. Mapping the results of this study shows that the water crisis and environmental damage cause the issue of conflict, while the causes of the conflict are sand degrading and illegal mining permits. The loss of water sources and agricultural areas causes the impacts. Conflict resolution through the closure of sand mines and government policies, this study concludes that the consistency of the issue of illegal mining is influenced by the impacts caused and the intensity of mining carried out, so illegal mining in DIY persists for a long time.

Abstract

Rapid urbanization often leads to the loss of green spaces, posing challenges for sustainable and inclusive city planning. This study uses a remote sensing approach to map and analyze urban growth and green space dynamics in Yogyakarta, Indonesia, by combining Sentinel-1 and Sentinel-2 satellite data from 2015 and 2022. Supervised classification of land cover (built-up versus vegetated areas) was combined with the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) to quantify changes in green cover. The results for Yogyakarta reveal significant urban expansion, particularly towards the peripheral districts of Bantul and Sleman, accompanied by a decline in inner-city green spaces. In contrast, a parallel analysis of Budapest, Hungary, over the same period shows an overall increase in urban greenery and well-maintained green spaces within the city, reflecting effective urban planning interventions. These comparative findings suggest that urban growth in Yogyakarta has come at the cost of green space loss. In contrast, Budapest’s policies, including compact city strategies and green infrastructure development, have preserved and enhanced urban green spaces. Drawing on Budapest’s experience, this study discusses how Yogyakarta might adopt more inclusive and sustainable urban environmental governance. This study demonstrates the value of integrating multi-source satellite imagery for urban environmental monitoring. It provides policymakers with insight into how to balance urban growth with the conservation of green spaces.
