Abstract

The development process of the Singhasari Special Economic Zone (SEZ) in heritage tourism has not paid attention to socialization to residents. On the other hand, the COVID-19 pandemic has also affected its development. With this situation, this research aims to identify the community’s readiness of cultural activists and tourism actors in the Singhasari Special Economic Zone (SEZ). Through the concept of community readiness by searching and analyzing qualitative data, this research finds two important things; first, the community of cultural and tourism activists is still in the readiness level of vague awareness. This model of awareness stems from the distribution of unclear information. The research findings suggest that these communities only get information from gossip among themselves. Second, the COVID-19 pandemic, which slows down the development process, is interpreted as a punishment from God for the SEZ organizers. This interpretation relates to the lack of disclosure of public information regarding the SEZ development process. These two results show that there are symptoms of a crisis in developing sustainable tourism industry.

Abstract

A brand is a fundamental part of the marketing strategy in influencing purchase interest. A person’s buying ability will influence a customer to choose the product they want. In addition, higher competitiveness among hotels will create more awareness to maintain customer satisfaction and turn it into customer loyalty as the main target of their marketing. In connection with achieving customer loyalty, hotels must study the factors influencing customers to become loyal or switch from the hotel brand. A brand can be measured through brand equity which consists of a set of assets and liabilities of the Brand associated with the name and symbol of the Brand that can be given to consumers. Important and measurable components in forming brand equity include brand awareness, brand association, perceived quality, and brand loyalty. This study examines the variables that make the difference between loyalists and customers who switch hotel brands. The data used were taken from 42 respondents spread across the International Departure Terminal of Kualanamu Airport. The research method used is descriptive with a quantitative approach. The data were analyzed using the discriminant analysis method through the SPSS 12.0 program. And other limitations for this research are 5-Star Hotels and Chain International in Medan. Discriminant analysis shows that one factor requiring search variation distinguishes between brand loyalists and brand switchers. The Brand switching matrices show that all hotels serving consumers in Medan have low customer loyalty. The ratio between brand loyalists and brand switchers was 1:9, which means that only one person is loyal to one brand out of 10 consumers of accommodation services. The rest are types of consumers who like to switch to other brands.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic impacted the social and economic sectors. Family, the smallest social unit, is experiencing the impact, particularly for the woman as single-parent. Being a single parent is either a choice, decision, or condition that must be accepted due to the spouse’s passing or other condition. Single parents carried numerous burdens alone, including earning a living and raising the children. These burdens have a significant impact on single parents. This study aims to reveal single-parent families’ survival mechanisms. The research applied a qualitative method by interviewing single mothers from university students in East Java Province, Indonesia. This study used the theory of survival mechanism proposed by James Scott. The study found that instabilities generated by the COVID-19 pandemic produced enormous diminishing income. Such ordeals faced by single parents are burdensome because they initially had to support the family amid the feeble economy. Income vulnerability becomes a deep concern for single mothers. Pandemic COVID-19 caused these mothers to empower themselves and develop various survival strategies. The mothers from middle-class families live frugally and selective when they buy something they need. While mothers from lower-class families did different survival mechanisms, range from careful spending, owe some money, and open a business using their ex-husband’s savings. Furthermore, they are also working overtime, empowering their children to help with the work, diversifying jobs by opening food stalls up to have an online shop. Therefore, it can be assumed that the COVID-19 pandemic has made single parents struggle even more to fulfil their family needs.

Abstract

Studies have shown indications of performance improvement due to a training program. In the public sector, this program is highly expected to impact how the officers can demonstrate their capacity to perform their duties well. This program includes a new leadership education and training program called DIKTLAT PIM Model Reformer. This study was aimed at contextually examining the effectiveness of this new model of a training program. This study demonstrated how the basic rule (Regulation of the Head of State Administration Agency Number 13 of 2013 concerning Guidelines for Organizing Level IV Leadership Education and Training) on post-training evaluation was conducted. This current study’s novelty lies in its use of the grounded theory method as an evaluation approach for post-training effectiveness. This current study used the Grounded Theory Method (GTM) and focused on alumni training at the Municipality of Tidore Islands, North Maluku, Indonesia. The results indicated several aspects identified and defined by the alumni concerning the new training program model. The aspects include effectiveness and efficiency improvement, competency measures, leader morality and professionalism, teamwork, source financing, and performance evaluation. This current study enabled its basic regulation on measuring the effectiveness of the training program—DIKTLAT PIM Model Reformer. Future studies are also proposed to overcome this study’s weakness.

Abstract

This classroom action research aimed to improve the seventh-grade students of SMP Negeri 4 Tondano (Public Middle School) in understanding the information of a descriptive text. This research was conducted in two cycles. The research subjects were 28 students of class VII-A. It allows all students to play active roles during the learning as the nine steps of Quick on the Draw place students as the subject. Students use their potentials to think independently, solve problems jointly, and obtain additional information not provided by the teachers. The final test results showed that from 28 students, 27 students (96.42%) scored above 75, and 1 student (3.58%) below the standard. The ability of students to understand classical descriptive text information was 83, beyond the Minimum Learning Mastery Standard.
