Abstract

This study explores the contestation of space between the state and local communities in the development of the Suramadu region, particularly the planned construction of a coastal tourism area (Madura Park) in Sekar Bungoh Hamlet, Sukolilo Barat Village, Bangkalan Regency. The research aims to analyze how spatial politics are exercised in the development process, identify the key actors involved, and understand who benefits and who is marginalized in implementing Suramadu's development agenda. Using a qualitative research approach, data were collected through non-participant observation, in-depth interviews with affected residents and government actors, and analysis of planning documents and media coverage. The study is framed by Henri Lefebvre’s theory of the production of space, particularly the concepts of spatial practice, representations of space, and representational space. Findings reveal that the spatial planning of Suramadu's development, articulated through the master plan of the Surabaya–Madura Regional Development Agency (BPWS), prioritizes state and investor interests while marginalizing local communities. The government’s representation of space emphasizes economic growth through tourism, trade, and industrial zones, often at the expense of community rights and historical attachments to the land. The forced displacement and land acquisition processes have generated resistance from residents, who organized through the "Kelompok Masyarakat Tolak Penggusuran" (Community Group Against Eviction) to defend their land, heritage, and livelihoods. Their resistance highlights material grievances and symbolic struggles over recognition, justice, and participation in spatial decision-making. This study concludes that spatial development in Suramadu is marked by structural asymmetries of power, in which space becomes a site of political contestation rather than shared progress. It also underscores the importance of participatory and culturally informed spatial planning to mitigate conflict and ensure equitable development outcomes.

Abstract

Driving behavior significantly influences tourist comfort and experiences in a destination, making traffic management a critical consideration for tourism-focused cities. This study examines driving behaviors in Bandung and assesses their impact on tourists' comfort and overall experiences. A total of 300 respondents, consisting equally of drivers and tourists, participated through an online questionnaire administered via Google Forms across West Bandung Regency, Bandung Regency, Cimahi City, and selected areas of Sumedang Regency in West Java Province, a method particularly effective during the COVID-19 pandemic. Descriptive statistical analysis and independent t-tests indicate that driving behavior among Bandung residents is moderately deviant; however, most drivers tend to comply with traffic regulations and consider receiving telephone calls while driving as relatively unimportant. Nevertheless, tourists emphasize enhancing public transportation services and traffic orderliness. The study confirms a significant relationship between driving behavior and tourist experiences, highlighting the need for targeted improvements to develop Bandung as a more comfortable and attractive city for residents and visitors.

Abstract

The growing integration of digital technologies into organizational operations has transformed the governance landscape, particularly for non-profit institutions managing complex community development programs. This study examines the role of a Social Responsibility Application (SR App) in enhancing the governance performance of community empowerment initiatives through a digital platform. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the research focuses on the Inovasi Muda Indonesia Foundation. This non-profit organization has adopted the SR App to improve its social programs' efficiency, transparency, and accountability. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and secondary sources, involving five purposively selected users of the SR App. The findings reveal several benefits of the application, including a more structured governance workflow, real-time program monitoring, accelerated and interactive reporting, and improved data analytics for strategic decision-making. These insights demonstrate how digital transformation can support non-profit organizations in implementing good governance practices and achieving greater impact through technology-enabled community development. The study offers practical implications for other non-profits aiming to strengthen their governance through e-governance tools.

Abstract

This study examines the paradigm shift of traditional media in the face of the digital era, focusing on the adaptation processes and forms of media convergence through Norman Fairclough's Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA) approach. The research analyzes the discourse representations of digitalization constructed by four media institutions, BBC, TVRI, Kompas, and The Guardian, through official documents, corporate statements, and strategic content. This study aims to explore how traditional media constructs its identity in response to the demands of digital platforms and how the power structures and ideologies behind this transformation process unfold. The main findings reveal that media transformation is not only technical but also reflects changes in power structures, ideological values, and epistemic dynamics. At the textual level, media adaptation is constructed through narratives of innovation and participation, yet it retains the institutional dominance of traditional media. At the level of discursive practices, media institutions adopt multiplatform strategies and user engagement; however, public participation remains structurally controlled by the media organizations. Meanwhile, at the social practice level, there is a negotiation between traditional journalistic values and the increasingly dominant digital algorithmic logic in content management. The shift in media paradigms from linear, centralized communication models to participatory, modular, and decentralized many-to-many communication models has introduced new challenges, such as epistemic crises, misinformation, and digital platform dominance. Despite this, traditional media still strives to maintain its relevance in the increasingly complex digital media ecosystem. This study contributes theoretically by recommending the need for deeper critical digital literacy, as well as a reformulation of journalistic values to address the challenges of misinformation and technological dominance. An interdisciplinary approach is essential to better understand communication within the contemporary media landscape, which is increasingly dominated by digital platforms.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the aggregate production planning system and explore alternative aggregate strategies to improve cost efficiency in the production planning process. The primary objective of aggregate planning is to mitigate unpredictable fluctuations, such as those caused by seasonal or external factors, and to minimize total planning costs. The research focuses on small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) operating in the garment manufacturing sector in Bandung, West Java. The methodological approach includes a case study design, data analysis, and demand forecasting using QM for Windows with forecasting techniques such as Moving Average and Exponential Smoothing. Microsoft Excel is utilized to simulate and analyze various aggregate planning strategies. This study examines three key strategies: subcontracting, labor adjustment, and working hour regulation. Each strategy incurs distinct cost components, subcontracting costs, recruitment and termination costs, and overtime costs, respectively. Field analysis reveals that subcontracting is the most cost-effective strategy. Its advantages include the ability to engage other SMEs in meeting demand, low risk of delivery delays, and reduced exposure to raw material shortages and processing time constraints. However, it carries a risk of quality variation. Therefore, it is recommended that firms implementing a subcontracting strategy maintain strict quality control to ensure compliance with product specifications.

Abstract

This study conducts a systematic literature review to explore the dynamics of ecotourism in volcanic regions, with a particular focus on its impact on communities and stakeholders. The review was carried out using the PRISMA protocol, focusing on literature published between January 2002 and May 2024 in the Scopus database. An initial pool of 40 articles was filtered through inclusion and exclusion criteria, resulting in 14 eligible studies for synthesis. The findings reveal diverse impacts of ecotourism in volcanic areas, including economic benefits, conservation challenges, sociocultural transformations, and stakeholder governance. Notably, most studies concentrated on the tourism sector, with limited coverage of other relevant industries. The review also identifies methodological and theoretical gaps, with few studies employing explicit theoretical frameworks. This study contributes to the academic discourse by mapping existing knowledge, identifying thematic clusters, and offering practical recommendations for policy and future research aimed at enhancing the sustainability and inclusivity of ecotourism in volcanic landscapes.

Abstract

The increasing deployment of Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) to various destination countries, especially in Asia and Africa, has generated substantial income inflows for families back home. However, low financial literacy, limited access to formal financial services, and a tendency toward short-term consumption often undermine this economic potential. This study investigates financial literacy and inclusion's influence on investment interest among Indonesian migrant workers. Utilizing a quantitative approach with Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), data were collected from 200 respondents through an OECD-adapted questionnaire covering financial knowledge, behavior, attitudes, and service accessibility. The findings indicate that financial literacy significantly affects investment interest (? = 0.386; p = 0.013), suggesting that enhanced financial competence increases the propensity to invest. Similarly, financial inclusion also exerts a significant positive influence (? = 0.351; p = 0.030), revealing that improved access to financial products and services, such as savings, insurance, and digital investment platforms, encourages migrant workers to engage in productive financial activities. These results highlight the importance of targeted financial education programs and inclusive financial infrastructures to strengthen the long-term economic resilience of returning migrant workers and their families. Future research should explore additional moderating variables such as digital platform adoption, migration duration, and sociocultural dynamics to enrich the understanding of investment behavior within this demographic.

Abstract

This study investigates Indonesia’s bureaucratic redesign as a strategic response to enhance public service effectiveness in the post-decentralization and post-pandemic era. Drawing on a qualitative approach and literature-based analysis, the research explores four interrelated dimensions: organizational structure reform, digital transformation (SPBE), adaptive work culture, and post-pandemic governance strategies. Findings indicate that while regulatory frameworks such as PermenPAN-RB No.?28/2019 and SPBE initiatives provide formal direction, their implementation is shaped by institutional capacity, cultural alignment, and leadership commitment. Structural reforms often fall short due to insufficient capacity-building and performance incentives, while digital initiatives reveal spatial inequality and interoperability challenges. The adoption of adaptive cultural values, notably through the BerAKHLAK framework, shows promise but remains uneven. Similarly, hybrid service models introduced during the pandemic highlight Indonesia’s strategic responsiveness, yet their impact varies across regions. The study offers a synthesized analysis combining empirical findings and theoretical insights, emphasizing the need for coherent, context-sensitive reforms that integrate structural, digital, and cultural components. This research contributes to public administration scholarship by reframing bureaucratic transformation as both a technical and political process requiring iterative adaptation, inclusive governance, and long-term institutional learning.

Abstract

This study compares two automation testing tools, Robot Framework and Cypress, applied to e-commerce websites. The testing procedure is based on predefined test case flows utilizing the Black Box Testing method, which focuses exclusively on functional validation according to requirement specifications, without reference to backend systems or source code. The research aims to evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of both tools in executing identical test scenarios and to assess user responses concerning website access speed. Robot Framework, recognized for its keyword-driven testing approach, is compared with Cypress, a JavaScript-based end-to-end testing framework. The findings indicate that Cypress outperforms Robot Framework, particularly regarding execution speed and automated report generation. Cypress’s modern architecture and real-time interaction capabilities contribute to faster and more stable test execution. Conversely, while Robot Framework offers significant flexibility and extensibility, its performance is comparatively slower in this context. User feedback suggests that the Bhinneka, Gramedia, and Uniqlo websites are generally responsive and user-friendly; however, Uniqlo is notably preferred due to its accurate stock information and efficient delivery services.
