Abstract

This study aims to examine the object of Islamic educational theory based on a community approach by tracing the historical and conceptual roots of critical education, as well as its relevance in contemporary social, political, and cultural contexts. Islamic education from a critical perspective is understood not only as a process of knowledge transfer, but also as a means of liberation and human empowerment from various forms of structural, ideological, and cultural oppression. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a literature study method, which examines relevant national journals indexed by Sinta 2 and international articles (2020–2025). The analysis was carried out using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, including data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that critical education in Islam has a strong theological basis, rooted in the values of amar ma'ruf nahi munkar and the principle of tahrīr al-insān (human liberation). Islamic education is understood as a process of spiritual and social emancipation that fosters reflective awareness, builds moderation, and strengthens the cultural identity of the community. Furthermore, Islamic education serves as a political product, a means of cultural resistance, and a preserver of just and civilized local values. Thus, the theory of community-based Islamic education integrates spirituality, rationality, and social awareness in shaping people who are faithful, knowledgeable, and civilized.

Abstract

Islamic education plays a strategic role in shaping perfect human beings and as a driving force for just social change. The dynamics of contemporary society demand an Islamic education model that emphasizes not only the transfer of religious knowledge but also focuses on community empowerment. This study aims to examine and formulate a conceptual model for Community-Based Islamic Education (PIBPM) through a library research approach. Data sources include primary and secondary literature such as scientific journals, books, and educational policy documents. The results indicate that PIBPM must be based on the values of the caliphate, amar ma'ruf nahi munkar, and social justice. Implementation of this model requires the integration of a community-based curriculum that is contextualized to local needs and wisdom, active community participation as educational subjects, and strategic collaboration among stakeholders. Islamic educational institutions need to transform into centers of social, economic, and spiritual empowerment. Thus, PIBPM not only strengthens the relevance of Islamic education to social development but also affirms its role as an agent of transformation towards an empowered and civilized society.

Abstract

This study discusses the relationship between Mobile Legends game addiction and the level of student discipline at the Nahdlatul Ulama Sidomukti Kraksaan Islamic Senior High School. The phenomenon of increasing intensity of online game playing among students has led to behavioral changes, especially in terms of responsibility and discipline in learning. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of game addiction on study time, completion of school assignments, and student disciplinary behavior in the madrasah environment. The research method used is a qualitative approach with a case study type, through interviews, observations, and documentation of teachers, students, and school officials. The results of the study indicate that Mobile Legends addiction has a negative impact on student discipline, such as late attendance, decreased learning motivation, and violations of school rules. However, with appropriate coaching strategies through teacher role models, habituation of responsibility, positive activities, and cooperation between schools and families, these impacts can be minimized. This study emphasizes the importance of digital supervision and character education so that students are able to balance entertainment and learning responsibilities in the technological era.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of transformational leadership in improving the quality of education in Islamic boarding schools. Transformational leadership emphasizes the leader's ability to inspire, motivate, and guide his followers to achieve their best potential. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with informants consisting of kiai, teachers, and students, and data collection techniques through in-depth interviews, participant observation, and documentation. The results show that the application of the four dimensions of transformational leadership: idealized influence, inspirational motivation, intellectual stimulation, and individual consideration can improve students' learning motivation, discipline, creativity, critical thinking skills, and teacher professionalism. Additional strategies such as a collaborative learning culture and strengthening Islamic boarding school values also support the creation of holistic education. Despite challenges such as differences in student character and limited resources, transformational leadership has proven effective in improving the quality of education in Islamic boarding schools and can serve as a model for other Islamic boarding school managers.

Abstract

This investigation examines the intricate and multifaceted significance of Guoqing Temple in the development of the religious, political, and cultural framework of the Wuyue Kingdom (907–978 CE), recognized as one of China's most culturally vibrant regimes during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period. Utilizing an array of textual sources, archaeological findings, empirical fieldwork data, and comparative analyses with East Asian Buddhist centers, this paper posits that Guoqing si served as both a spiritual nucleus for the Tiantai School and a pivotal node for Wuyue's political legitimization, diplomatic endeavors, and transregional artistic exchanges. This study presents a tripartite analytical framework—comprising Temple-state integration, ritual-artistic transmission, and heritage formation—to elucidate the significance of Guoqing si as a maritime center of Buddhism. The results not only shed light on the temple's distinctive contributions to statecraft and cultural diplomacy but also enrich broader discussions regarding the institutionalization of religion, the concept of sacred kingship, and the material culture of Buddhism in medieval East Asia.

Abstract

The Industry 4.0 era has brought fundamental changes to various aspects of life, including Islamic education. This article aims to analyze Islam's contribution to this digital era through three main dimensions: philosophical, historical, and practical, and its implications for the development of Islamic education. The study used a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) approach to scientific publications from 2020–2025. The results show that Islam plays a strategic role as a moral, epistemological, and applicative foundation capable of balancing technological progress with spiritual values. In the philosophical dimension, Islam provides an ethical foundation and the value of monotheism to ensure technology is used humanely and brings benefits to all humanity. In the historical dimension, Islamic education demonstrates high adaptability to changing times. In the practical dimension, Islamic educational institutions have begun implementing innovations such as blended learning, digital literacy, and artificial intelligence (AI). Thus, Islam contributes to shaping character-based, competitive, and spiritually oriented education in the Industry 4.0 era.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the leadership strategies of Islamic scholars (kiai) in fostering the loyalty and discipline of students at the Darul Khairat Islamic Boarding School in Pontianak. Islamic boarding schools, as Islamic educational institutions, have unique characteristics with a development system that emphasizes moral, spiritual, and disciplinary aspects, where the kiai plays a role as a leader, educator, and director of the students' lives. Given the influence of globalization and digital culture, challenges to student loyalty and discipline are increasingly complex, so that adaptive leadership strategies are needed that remain rooted in Islamic boarding school values. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was carried out through reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions with source triangulation to ensure data validity. The results show that kiai implement leadership strategies through several aspects, namely personal example, routine habits, emotional closeness, and adaptation to social and digital developments. The kiai's exemplary role model becomes a moral example that motivates students internally, routine habits form discipline, while emotional closeness strengthens students' loyalty and inner connection. This strategy demonstrates the integration of modern managerial principles and spiritual values, developing students who are disciplined, loyal, and have character. The research findings contribute to the development of Islamic educational management theory and practice, particularly in the effective leadership of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in facing the challenges of the times without sacrificing tradition and moral values.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the potential of Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) as spaces for decolonizing knowledge through the epistemological approaches of bayani, burhani, and irfani. These three Islamic epistemologies, as proposed by Muhammad Abid al-Jabiri, offer a unique framework of rationality and serve as an important basis for the formation of an Islamic scientific paradigm. Using a library study method and a hermeneutical analysis approach, this study explores the relevance of these three epistemologies in the context of Islamic boarding school education as a space for resistance to the hegemony of Western knowledge. The results of the study indicate that Islamic boarding schools can act as centers of counter-hegemony through the integration of textual bayani, rational burhani, and spiritual irfani. The synergy of these three epistemologies strengthens the epistemic autonomy of Islam and opens up opportunities for the development of a decolonial educational model characterized by ethical and contextual characteristics.
