Abstract

This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of basil leaf extract (Ocimum americanum L.) on body weight and cecal histopathology in native chickens infected with Eimeria tenella. Eimeria tenella is recognized as one of the most pathogenic Eimeria species in poultry and is responsible for coccidiosis characterized by severe cecal lesions, including hemorrhage, necrosis, and inflammatory cell infiltration (Chapman, 2014; Koutny et al., 2021). Basil leaves were selected because they contain phytochemical compounds such as flavonoids, tannins, and essential oils with potential antibacterial, antioxidant, and immunomodulatory activities (Dwivedi et al., 2021; Kadhim & Abbas, 2023). The experiment employed a completely randomized design consisting of five treatment groups: a negative control, a positive control, and three basil extract treatments at concentrations of 0.05%, 0.10%, and 0.20%. Parameters observed included body weight and cecal histopathological changes. The results demonstrated that basil extract administration influenced the cecal condition of infected chickens, with the 0.10% dose producing the most favorable outcomes compared with the other doses. Histopathological examination revealed the presence of oocysts, necrosis, macrophage infiltration, inflammation, and hemorrhage in infected chickens; however, the severity of lesions varied among treatments. These findings indicate that basil leaf extract has potential as a natural supplement to support the health of native chickens

Abstract

Moringa oleifera leaves are rich in bioactive compounds with purported therapeutic properties, including potential antithrombotic activity. This study evaluated the in vitro effects of Moringa oleifera leaf filtrate on erythrocyte morphology and aggregation. Whole blood samples were treated with varying concentrations of the filtrate (25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%), and microscopic examination was performed to assess changes in erythrocyte morphology and aggregation patterns. The results showed distinct, concentration-dependent effects on erythrocytes. At a low concentration of 25%, erythrocytes maintained normal morphology and remained evenly distributed without signs of aggregation. Conversely, increasing the concentration to 50%–100% induced significant poikilocytosis and anisocytosis, along with increased erythrocyte aggregation characterized by rouleaux formation. These findings suggest that although Moringa oleifera L. filtrate exhibits promising antithrombotic potential at low concentrations, higher concentrations may negatively alter erythrocyte integrity and promote aggregation. Further research is needed to elucidate the underlying molecular mechanisms and establish a safe therapeutic range.

Abstract

Marchantia paleacea is a liverwort with diverse secondary metabolites of pharmacological interest. This study aimed to evaluate the physicochemical and ADMET (Absorption, Distribution, Metabolism, Excretion, and Toxicity) properties of eighteen bioactive compounds previously identified from M. paleacea by GC-MS analysis using an in silico approach. Physicochemical parameters were analyzed using SwissADME, ADMET predictions were performed using pKCSM and ProTox 3.0 for toxicity class analysis. Results showed that most compounds complied with Lipinski’s Rule of Five (RO5), demonstrating good oral drug-likeness. All compounds exhibited high human intestinal absorption (86-95%), favorable BBB permeability, and CNS permeability values remained low. Most compounds did not significantly interact with major CYP450 isoenzymes or P-glycoprotein. Toxicity prediction revealed that the majority of compounds were non-mutagenic (Ames-negative), non-hepatotoxic, and did not inhibit the hERG channel, suggesting a relatively safe pharmacological profile. Exceptions included 2-nitro-cyclohexanone (positive Ames test) and thymol (hepatotoxicity). Compounds such as linalool,  dodecanoic acid, n-decanoic acid, and bicyclo[2.2.2]hept5-en2-ol demonstrated particularly favorable drug-like characteristics, warranting further experimental validation. These findings provide a computational foundation for prioritizing M. paleacea bioactive compounds for future drug development.

Abstract

Pineapple peel and mangosteen peel waste have the potential to be used as raw materials for environmentally friendly organic cleaning products. This study aims to produce an eco-enzyme-based organic cleaning product through the fermentation of 150 grams of pineapple peel powder, 90 grams of mangosteen peel powder, and 1500 mL of water for 14 days. After fermentation, 2 tablespoons of vinegar and 3 mL of essential oil were added. Product characterization included pH, homogeneity, stability, and cleaning effectiveness tests. The results showed that the product's pH decreased from 5 to 4, had good homogeneity and stability, and produced little foam when used. The product is able to clean glass or mirrors, house floors, household appliances, and motor vehicles. In addition, the fermentation dregs have the potential to be used as organic fertilizer. The results show that InnoClean Bio has the potential to be an effective organic cleaning alternative while supporting the implementation of the circular economy concept by using organic waste into useful products.

Abstract

This study aims to test the effectiveness of the tonic ethanol extract of white cempaka flowers (Magnolia alba) on hair growth in rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) and determine the optimal concentration. An experimental method based on a Randomized Block Design (RBD) was used with five treatment groups: negative control (aquadest), positive control (Regrou), and white cempaka extract tonic with concentrations 3%, 6%, and 12%. The tonic preparation was tested for its physical properties and stability, followed by topical application on the rabbit’s back for 28 days. Hair length measurements were taken weekly and analyzed using a two-way repeated-measure ANOVA. The results of the physical evaluation show that all formulas are homogeneous, stable and meet skin pH standards. At week 4, the 3% formula produced the highest average hair growth (1,97 ± 0,49 cm), exceeding the positive control (1,87 ± 0,71 cm). Increasing the concentration (6% and 12%) actually reduces effectiveness due to increased viscosity and potential receptor saturation. The ANOVA test shows that the time factor has a very significant effect (p < 0,001). In conclusion, 3% white cempaka flower extract is most optimal and has the potential to be developed as a natural hair tonic preparation
