Abstract

The main problem in Entomology lectures is the low level of active participation among students and their difficulty in understanding the material on insect classification and morphology. This has an impact on suboptimal learning outcomes and student interest in the field of entomology. The urgency of this research lies in the importance of identifying factors that hinder the learning process as a basis for developing more effective and relevant learning strategies. The objective of this study is to analyze students' learning problems in Entomology courses based on their own perceptions. This study uses a survey method with a descriptive quantitative approach. The main instrument is a closed-ended questionnaire covering five aspects of learning problems: understanding of material, learning media, teaching methods, availability of learning resources, and learning motivation. The research subjects consisted of 93 students from the Biology Education Program at FITK UINSU in the even semester of the 2024/2025 academic year who were enrolled in Entomology courses. The analysis results showed that 68% of students experienced difficulties in understanding insect classification material, 54% stated that learning media were uninteresting, and 47% considered the teaching methods used by lecturers to be insufficiently varied. The conclusion of this study indicates that students' learning challenges in Entomology lectures remain significant and diverse, necessitating the development of interactive learning media and innovative pedagogical strategies to enhance the effectiveness of the learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the implementation of project based learning (PjBL) based on Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in calculating bacterial population growth. The research was conducted using a classroom action research (CAR) design with students of Parulian Senior High School as participants. Through the PjBL – STEM approach, students were angaged in project activities that entegrated biological concepts of bacterial growth with mathematical models, particularly exponential and logistic growth equations. Data were collected through observations, tests, and student project reports, then analyzed descriptively. The results showed that the implementation of PjBL-STEM improved students’ understanding of bacterial growth concepts, enhanced their ability to apply mathematical calculations in biological contexts, and fostered collaboration and problem-solving skills. This study demonstrates that integrating STEM-based project learning into biology classes effectively enhances students’ conceptual mastery and critical thinking.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to analyze the learning media used during lectures in the Science Education Study Program in the Human Anatomy and Physiology course. This type of research is development research with the ADDIE development model at the Analyze stage. The population in this study were all Science Education students of UIN Datokarama Palu, and the study sample was used by 22 students who have taken courses in the Human Anatomy and Physiology. Data collection techniques through observation and filling out a needs questionnaire. The instrument used was a media needs questionnaire in the form of a questionnaire in the form of a google form. The data obtained were then analyzed descriptively qualitatively. The results of the study indicate that the learning process was mostly still conventional such as lectures and presentation discussions. The learning media used was also still limited to powerpoint and handouts. The Human Anatomy and Physiology course contains several concepts that cannot be learned directly but require the help of learning media such as animated videos to visualize abstract concepts including the digestive system material.

This research aimed to produce a Booklet based on environmental Biodiversity topic that valid and effective to be used learning. This research was designed using 4-D development model consisting define, design, development and disseminate. The Booklet was validated by Material Expert, Media Expert, then the response from teacher and students were obtained. The result of feasibility of Booklet from Material Expert was 84 % with very good category, Media Expert was 81,33 %  with good category, Biology Teacher was 94,66 % with very good category and percentage of students responses were 90,27 % with good category. Then the result of effectiveness from the paired t-test obtained tcount > ttable = 40,093 > 2, 042, significantly the Post test score higher than Pre test score. While t-test obtained 0,621 > 0,05 there was differences in Mean value that significant. Then result of t-test was proceed with N-Gain score and then the result N-Gain score obatined at interval > 0,3 with effective category.

Abstract

The purpose in this research was to find out the learning difficulties of Biology students Universitas Negeri Medan during online learning and factors that cause learning difficulties. The research method uses a descriptive qualitative approach. The research population is Biology students Universitas Negeri Medan, the sample used is PSBD D and PSBD E 2020 students. The instrument used is a questionnaire distributed using a google form. The results of the research based on the DPNA score, the level of learning difficulty experienced by Biology students Universitas Negeri Medan is relatively low. Even though student scores were in the good category, it turned out that PSBD D and PSBD E students in 2020 experienced several difficulties during online learning, including: difficulty understanding the topic in Lower Organism Taxonomy course with an average of 68%. Did not understand the explanation given by the lecturer with an average of 47%. Did not understand the instructions given by the lecturer during the learning process with an average of 57%. Difficulty understanding the features contained in the SIPDA system with an average of 26%. Experienced difficulties in accessing the internet network during the online learning process with an average of 60%. Experienced quota limitations during the online learning process with an average of 43%. The factors causing learning difficulties for biology students class of PSBD D and PSBD E 2020 include internal factors and external factors. Based on internal factors with an average of 58% classified as difficult enough. While external factors with an average of 59% are classified as difficult enough.

The type of research used is descriptive research with a quantitative approach. In this study there were 71 people using a sampling technique, namely random sampling. The instruments used in data collection were questionnaires and tests. The research results showed that students in class XI Science at SMA Negeri 1 Beringin consisting of classes XI IPA 1 and IPA 2 tend to have a visual learning style with 41 students (57.75%), while students who have an auditory learning style are 16 people (22.54%), and students who have a kinesthetic learning style are 14 people (19.71%). This research shows that the visual learning style variable (X1) has rcount = 0.601 > rtable = 0.308, the auditory learning style variable (X2) having rcount = 0.536 > rtable = 0.497 and the kinesthetic learning style variable (X3) has rcount = 0.547 > rtable = 0.533. Based on the research results, it was concluded that student learning styles greatly influence students' biology learning outcomes.

Abstract

Learning model plays a crucial role in improving students' communication skills. This research aims to determine the level of effectiveness of the Think Talk Write learning model on students' scientific communication skills on ecosystem material in class X MAS Al-Wardah. This type of research is descriptive research using a one group pretest-posttest design. The data collected in this research is attitude data on scientific communication skills and written scientific communication skills which are constructed based on six indicators of scientific communication skills. Attitude data on scientific communication skills were collected using the observation method and data on students' written scientific communication skills were collected using the test method. The research results showed that students' scientific communication skills attitudes increased with a gain factor of 0.31 in the medium category and also students' scientific communication skills in writing with an average gain of 0.4 in the medium category. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the Think Talk Write learning model is still less effective in improving students' scientific communication skills.
