Abstract

Spiritual tourism is a rapid growing segment of the travel industry that focuses on journeys aiming at fostering personal growth, self-discovery, and connection with sacred or transcendent experiences. This article explores the evolution, current trends, and future directions of spiritual tourism through a qualitative, grounded theory approach. Historically rooted in ancient pilgrimages and religious practices, spiritual tourism has evolved into a blend of traditional and contemporary spiritual pursuits, influenced by globalization and the rise of new age spirituality. Using Bali as a case study, the article highlights the island’s emergence as a global center for spiritual tourism which driven by its unique cultural and natural offerings. However, challenges such as cultural commodification and sustainability concerns are also discussed. The article identifies gaps in the literature, including the need for deeper qualitative research and the exploration of technology’s role in shaping spiritual tourism experiences. Ultimately, spiritual tourism offers significant potential for fostering cross-cultural understanding and sustainable development

Abstract

The present study aimed to examine whether and to what extent the educational outcomes of online tourism education were influenced by the availability of educational infrastructure facilities, and whether this influence was mediated by online teaching and learning environment. A conceptual research model was developed by integrating and synthesising, extensive literature review of theories in the field.  A quantitative correlational study using a predictive design and multivariate analysis method was employed. A sample of 644 students studying in higher educational institutions across India were employed through survey based on a stratified random sampling method. The factor analysis was employed for factor exploration under the key dimensions concerning online tourism education. Structural Equation Modelling analysis was employed to examine the possible relationship between and mediating effect, among the variables. The findings revealed statistically significant relationships between educational infrastructure and educational outcomes through mediation effect of teaching-learning environment. The results revealed educational infrastructure having a significant positive effect on teaching learning environment (β = 0.864), emphasizing the importance of educational infrastructure in tourism educational institutions. However, a direct negative influence of educational infrastructure on educational outcomes was observed (β = - 0.232), suggesting possible additional factors. Interestingly, educational infrastructure was found to significantly enhance educational outcomes, but indirectly, through teaching-learning environment (β = 1.139). This highlighted the crucial role of infrastructure in fostering positive educational outcomes. The findings underscore the complexity of factors shaping the educational landscape, necessitating educational planning and interventions. The study concludes by suggesting the advancement of educational and information and communication technology infrastructure to assist tourism students in their pursuit of online tourism education and a fruitful career.

Abstract

The study examines the homestay landscape in the Indian Himalayan Region (IHR), with a particular focus on Sikkim, India. Homestays offer alternative accommodations for visitors in natural settings, providing a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of towns. They also play a crucial role in spreading tourism from crowded areas to less-frequented destinations and serve as a direct source of income for local communities. Recent data reveals that homestays account for 51.36 percent of total accommodations, indicating a shift towards homestays as part of a sustainable tourism strategy. However, findings show that homestay owners face economic challenges in maintaining their businesses. For instance, in Gangtok, the hotel border capacity density (BCD) reaches 18.9 per square kilometer, raising concerns about the area's environmental fragility. The recent inclusion of the Pakyong and Soreng districts in the eastern and western zones, which have sizeable number of homestays, is viewed as a positive step towards spreading tourism activity. However, the results indicate that the strategy of directing tourists to homestays from overcrowded urban areas has not met its objectives. The study suggests attracting high-end tourists to homestays by offering modern amenities and a welcoming, homelike atmosphere, which may lead to the emergence of special interest homestays.

Abstract

Tajen Village is one of the pioneering tourism villages in Tabanan Regency that has natural, cultural, and artificial tourism potential, so it is very appropriate to be developed. This research aims to find out how internal and external conditions are, as well as to find out strategies that can be proposed in the development of Tajen Tourism Village as environmentally friendly tourism in Tabanan Regency. The data collection technique in this study is through observation, in-depth interviews, documentation, and literature studies. This study uses the concept of AFITH (Attraction, Facilities, Infrastructure, Transportation, and Hospitality) and PEST (Political, Economic, Social, and Technological) analysis. The informant determination technique in this study uses purposive sampling techniques. The informants selected in this study were key informants, main informants and additional informants. The results of the study show that there are four strategic points in the development of Tourism Villages, namely: strategies for developing tourist attractions and tourism destinations, comprehensive strategies for tourism programs, strategies for improving quality, and strategies for human resource development.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of the 6M management framework (man, money, material, method, machine, market) and its strategic operationalization for sustainable business performance at Aston Kuta Hotel & Residence, Bali. Addressing a critical gap in hospitality literature which prioritizes marketing over core management systems. It employed a descriptive qualitative methodology with triangulated data collection (semi-structured interviews with 12 departmental managers, participatory observation, and organizational document analysis). Findings demonstrate that the hotel's sustainability strategy hinges on three operational pillars: (1) human capital optimization through competency-based training and performance incentives, (2) financial efficiency via predictive budgeting and resource allocation models, and (3) systematized asset management encompassing circular procurement protocols and preventive maintenance regimes. These practices substantiate the 6M framework's efficacy in achieving dual objectives: enhanced service quality and competitive resilience amidst Bali's saturated hospitality market. The research contributes to sustainable hospitality theory by operationalizing management elements as dynamic drivers of organizational viability, providing a replicable model for ASEAN 4-star hotels navigating resource-intensity challenges

Abstract

Tourism is one of the largest industries in the world and serves as a cornerstone for the economic development of various countries. Timor Leste, as a nation with significant tourism potential, relies on this sector to support its economic growth. With its diversity of culture, traditions, and natural beauty, tourism in Timor Leste plays a crucial role as a source of national income, ranking third after oil and agriculture. This research aims to examine the influence of social media, tour packages, and word of mouth (WOM) on the interest in visiting Jaco Island in Timor Leste. The method used in this study is a survey approach with a quantitative framework. Data were collected through questionnaires to identify the influence of independent variables, namely Social Media, Tour Packages, and Word of Mouth (WOM), on the dependent variable, which is the interest in visiting. The results indicate that social media, tour packages, and WOM significantly affect the interest in visiting Jaco Island. Together, these three variables contribute significantly to shaping the interest in visiting. The WOM variable is the most influential on the interest in visiting, evidenced by a path coefficient of 0.527, indicating that each unit increase in WOM will increase the interest in visiting by 52.7%. Social media, tour packages, and Word of Mouth (WOM) have a significant impact on the interest in visiting Jaco Island. Among these three variables, WOM is the most influential, with a 52.7% increase in the interest in visiting for every unit increase in WOM.

Abstract

Confronted by converging crises – climate change, AI-driven disruption, and shifting traveler demands – traditional sustainable tourism models struggle with "sustainability fatigue," often emphasizing sacrifice over tangible gain. This article introduces the Meaningful Tourism (MT) paradigm as a transformative tool for resilient development. Grounded in Positive Psychology, MT ensures the objective benefits and subjective satisfaction of all six core stakeholders (Visitors, Host Community, Employees, Businesses, Governments, Environment) simultaneously. It rejects zero-sum trade-offs, instead fostering aligned stakeholder interests through achievable, annually measured SMART KPIs tracking transparent progress. By shifting focus from restriction to mutual flourishing and demonstrable outcomes, MT provides a practical, positive, and holistic framework for building sustainable tourism resilience in an era defined by challenges and the search for meaning.

Abstract

This study investigates the tourism development potential of Pal Japan Hill in Sapit Village, Lombok. Its objectives are to identify and assess natural, cultural, and artificial attractions, determine influencing factors, and formulate development strategies. Utilizing a qualitative methodology, primary data was gathered through observation, in-depth interviews, and focus group discussions (FGD), supplemented by secondary data and documentation. Data analysis employed SWOT analysis. Findings reveal Pal Japan Hill possesses significant and diverse tourism potential across natural, cultural, and artificial domains. Key factors enabling and constraining development were identified. Based on the SWOT analysis, the study proposes a strategic framework to leverage strengths and opportunities, address weaknesses and threats, and guide the sustainable development of Pal Japan Hill as a competitive tourist destination.

Abstract

This article explores a collaborative conservation initiative implemented at Pandanan Beach, Malaka Village, Pemenang Sub-district, North Lombok Regency. Coinciding with the celebration of World Oceans Day and Coral Triangle Day on June 8, 2025, the activity highlights the importance of coral reef ecosystems, seagrass beds, and tropical fish diversity as the foundation of a community-based blue economy and sustainable tourism. Engaging multiple stakeholders—including the Malaka Village Government, the Pandanan Beach Community Group led by Mr. HM. Syukur, the Coastal and Marine Resource Management Center (BPSPL) Denpasar, PLTU's CSR program, and academics—the program aimed to rehabilitate damaged coral reefs and enhance community awareness and capacity in managing coastal resources. This article analyzes the initial impact of this multi-stakeholder collaboration on conservation efforts and the potential for sustainable local economic development.

Abstract

Experiential marketing is a marketing concept that aims to form loyal customers by touching their emotions and giving a positive feeling to products and services. Experiential marketing can be used as a tool to measure consumer satisfaction with a product or service. Customer engagement at this stage includes five things called Strategic Modules, which are modules that can be used to create various types of experiences for consumers, sense, feel, think, act and relate. The purpose of this reserach is to analyze the influence of sense, feel, think, act, and relate on the creation of consumer loyalty at Café Organiku Atsabe in Dili, Timor-Leste. The method used in this study is a quantitative method with loading factor analysis, inner model and hypothesis testing in PLS SEM with a bootstrapping procedure. The population in this study is consumers of Café Organiku Atsabe, the number of the population is 100 respondents. The results of the study can be concluded that five independent variables that were tested for their influence on consumer loyalty. The independent variable relates is the most influential variable with a path coefficient of 0.361, and the next variable is successively influential is the independent variable of sense with a path coefficient of 0.258 and the independent variable of act with a path coefficient of 0.323. Two other independent variables, namely feel and think, do not have the original value of the sample so they cannot be interpreted.
