Abstract

Limited civic literacy capacity and weak village community governance remain significant challenges to strengthening community participation in various rural areas of Indonesia. This situation was also found in Duko Village , Arjasa District , Sumenep Regency , which is characterized by low understanding among officials and the community regarding digital literacy, village profile documentation, and participatory governance practices. This community service activity aims to increase civic literacy capacity and strengthen community governance through structured and collaborative mentoring. The implementation method uses a participatory action approach, including needs assessment , citizenship and digital literacy training, assistance in preparing village profiles, and facilitating improvements to community governance mechanisms. The results of the community service show a significant increase in the community's ability to compile and update village profiles, an increased understanding of substantive citizenship values, and the formation of more focused coordination and accountability practices within village organizations. The implications of this activity confirm that a mentoring model based on participation, literacy, and cross-stakeholder collaboration can be an effective strategy in strengthening community capacity and supporting sustainable village development.

Abstract

The rapid expansion of financial technology has provided broader access to digital investment platforms, yet it has simultaneously increased the prevalence of fraudulent schemes such as scams, money games, binary options, and illegal robot trading. These practices have significantly impacted communities in Indonesia, including rural areas with limited financial literacy. Sanankerto Village, Malang Regency recognized as a tourism village with active MSMEs and community-based economic activities faces growing exposure to deceptive investment offers delivered through social media and digital channels. This community service program aims to enhance financial literacy and strengthen residents’ capacity to identify, verify, and avoid illegal investment schemes. Employing a Participatory Action Education approach, the program consists of five stages: needs assessment, educational workshops, hands-on training on legality verification using OJK, Bappebti, and SWI platforms, fraud-identification simulations, and evaluation through pre- and post-test assessments. Findings reveal a substantial increase in participants’ understanding of legal investment principles, the ability to independently check institutional licenses, and heightened vigilance toward digital fraud. The program also produced sustainable outputs, including trained village financial literacy volunteers, educational modules, and anti-fraud posters. Overall, this initiative contributes to improving the financial resilience of Sanankerto Village and preventing economic losses associated with illegal investment practices

Abstract

This community service activity was conducted in Pandanrejo village, Batu, one of the centers for strawberry cultivation in West Java. The main problems faced by local farmers include low productivity, inconsistent fruit quality, and limited knowledge in applying efficient and environmentally friendly cultivation technologies. The objective of this activity was to enhance the productivity and quality of strawberries through technical assistance, training, and the application of appropriate cultivation technologies that are easy for the community to implement. The methods included field observations, initial interviews to identify farmers' needs, training on strawberry cultivation based on simple technology (organic mulching, use of biological agents, and drip irrigation systems), and intensive guidance from planting to harvest. Evaluation involved measuring plant productivity, fruit quality (size, color, and total soluble solids content), and farmers responses and adoption levels of the technology. The results demonstrated an average productivity increase of 25% and improved fruit uniformity in terms of size and soluble solids content. Furthermore, farmers gained better understanding of the importance of applying appropriate technologies to maintain input efficiency and environmental sustainability. This activity is expected to serve as a model for similar horticultural commodity empowerment programs in other regions and to strengthen farmers independence in managing strawberry agribusiness based on innovative and sustainable technology.

Abstract

Limited household land is one of the main constraints on vegetable cultivation in densely populated urban areas. This community service program aimed to introduce modular vertical gardening racks and improve the knowledge and practical skills of urban communities in cultivating short-cycle leafy vegetables. The program was conducted with residents of RT 007/RW 01, Bandulan, Sukun District, Malang City, in February 2026 and involved 30 participants. The activities consisted of a partner needs assessment, participatory rack fabrication, training in plant biology and cultivation techniques, installation, and four weeks of mentoring. The racks were designed using hollow-steel frames with bolted joints, three planting levels, and removable planting containers, allowing them to be easily assembled, relocated, maintained, and expanded according to the available space. Program outcomes were evaluated using pretest and posttest questionnaires, skill observation sheets, participant response questionnaires, and plant growth monitoring. The program produced eight modular vertical gardening racks equipped with 72 planting containers. The participants’ mean knowledge score increased from 56.3 on the pretest to 84.7 on the posttest. Furthermore, 86.7% of the participants achieved the competent category in rack assembly and vegetable cultivation. At the end of the monitoring period, the plant survival rate reached 93.1%, supported by appropriate growing-medium preparation, watering practices, and light management. The program demonstrates that an interdisciplinary approach integrating manufacturing engineering and plant biology can provide practical, affordable, and replicable urban agriculture technology. Continuous mentoring and evaluation over several planting cycles are recommended to strengthen community independence and ensure program sustainability.

Abstract

Low disciplinary character is still one of the problems frequently encountered in Junior High School (SMP) students, which is indicated by the behavior of arriving late, not complying with school rules, not completing assignments on time, and low responsibility in participating in the learning process. This condition shows that the formation of disciplinary character requires an approach that is not only oriented towards giving sanctions, but also able to foster students' awareness and responsibility for each chosen behavior. This community service activity aims to shape the disciplined character of students through the HEBAT Program (Effective Life with Character, Responsibility, and Obedience) which uses Realita Counseling-based group guidance services. The program was implemented for 10 students of SMP Negeri 1 Kauman, Tulungagung Regency, who were selected based on the results of a needs assessment by the Guidance and Counseling teacher. The implementation method uses the Participatory Action Service (PAS) approach which includes the preparation stage, the implementation of five group guidance sessions with the Wants, Doing, Evaluation, Planning (WDEP) approach, evaluation through pretests and posttests, behavioral observations, and follow-up with the BK teacher. The results of the activity showed an increase in students' understanding of the character of discipline, marked by an increase in the category of good understanding from 20% to 80%. Observations also showed an increase in disciplined behavior, such as punctuality in school attendance, compliance with rules, responsibility in completing assignments, and the ability to control behavior during learning. All participants responded positively to the program implementation and stated that they were motivated to maintain disciplined behavior in their daily lives. Thus, the HEBAT Program has proven to be an alternative group guidance service that is effective, applicable, and has the potential to be replicated as a model for strengthening disciplinary character education in schools.
